He is a member of the US military, who is fighting for our Freedoms, such as freedom to assemble and protest, who served 2 tour in Iraq berates the NYPD for beating up protestors for exercising their 1st amendment rights. Telling them if they want to be tough guys, they want hurt people, go to Iraq or Afghanistan.

He is probably violating the US Military Uniform Code for standing up for what he believes in. This is America, our military personnel should NEVER stand up for what they believe in, they should do what they are told by their superiors. They are fighting for our Freedom but when they come home they should never support those freedoms.  Take a hint Wall Street Protestors.

808 I respond to you because I think in many posts your sarcasm has outstripped peoples' capacity to understand.

I think this significant because I think that someday what MAY happen is a clash between the military and the police/peace forces. This is not that hard to fathom really.

You have been so abrasive in some posts over the months, that makes it hard to figure out your position on this shit. But some of the shit you post indicates that you are on the side of right, that we should have our rights, that we should meet our responsibilties, that we should be good.

But also that there are two sides to this. That you can't stop the incessant greed without impairing the success deserved of human innovation.

That is to stop greed is to stop the world. Religion tried to do that a long time ago.

As abrasive as you are, I think you have a very different viewpoint than most people, and I for one would like to explore some of it.

I find his posts funny, but mostly thought provoking.  Sometimes it is simply thoughtful in what he really means, but mostly I get the sarcasm right away.

What so hard to understand?
  1. The US Military, like this marine, is fighting for our freedoms
  2. One of those freedoms is to ability to assemble and protest
  3. The marine is angry at the Police Officer are beating up and arresting people protesting who dont have guns and are not fighting back
  4. Conservatives want the protestors, arrested and thrown in jail
  5. The US Military Uniform code states that he should not be at a protest in uniform, maybe even to the point of stating that he is Marine. In doing so me maybe Court Martial for speaking up and standing up for what he believes in.
the extra part is, if the police officers want to act tough and beat up people, they should join the Military and protect our freedoms by going to Iraq or Afghanistan and fight terrorist who are willing to fight back.

Exactly, no one does anything to advance human society unless they get rewarded. Thats why Scientist, Engineers, and Researchers are all the top paying positions in the world. No one ever does it to satisfy curiosity, to continue on learning, to help people, out necessity, or because its their interest. Galileo, Plato, Einstein, Tesla, Thomas Edison, Da Vinci, Stephan Hawking and others all have done it for the money. Thats why they are/were the riches people on the planet.

The Stats I read about Sgt Thomas and his family:
United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas from Roosevelt, NY went toe to toe with the New York Police Department. An activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement, Thomas voiced his opinions of the NYPD police brutality that had and has been plaguing the #OWS movement.

Thomas is a 24-year-old Marine Veteran (2 tours in Iraq), he currently plays amateur football and is in college.

Thomas comes from a long line of people who sacrifice for their country: Mother, Army Veteran (Iraq), Step father, Army, active duty (Afghanistan), Grand father, Air Force veteran (Vietnam), Great Grand Father Navy veteran (World War II).

Ya know how you say "thanks for serving out country" to these young people and you (okay, I) kind of feel odd like I should know more or something. But you HEAR what this Marine says about the stuff he encountered and how he and his fellow Marines conducted themselves under MUCH more confrontational circumstances and I don't think I'll ever feel something's missing from the picture again.
I hope his parents are damned proud of him And If he's out of work, I hope he damn well gets a break real soon.

You and termy are both wrong... The research on how the rich taste Memphis barbeque style is far from complete.

The rich, being such lazy fucks may taste really tender and actually kida spicey with some of that cajun bbq action ... there is a remedy for greed... and it ends world hunger at the same time

"What so hard to understand? "

Not much except that Skip has demonstraed the ability to be more irrelevant than you, or even me. How about a big hand for him !

This is not all that hard to understand but to understand it correctly will take some thought. Now think about what is happeneing, this is civil unrest. Do you ubnderfuckingstand ? This is the beginning of something that is NOT going to go away unless they kill a bunch of people like they did in the wilderness in Europe after WW2 and blamed it on the Germans who were already fucking dead. Did you get all that ? These little tapes and things offa people's cellphones are going to fuck this all up for the people who rewrite history after every war. It's going to be a bad fucking time for tham.

This "rebellion" will be quelled, but it sets a modern precedent for the young. That is good. With the multiculturalism and the worldwide connection now young people can see that this "freedom" we supposedly have is not intrinsic to the US by any means. Countries without anywhere near our Constitution have more rights for the Citizens all over the world. Of course it's not every country, but in Russia you don't need a license to go fishing. Think about that. In some places in Europe you don't get groped when getting on a plane, they just wave you through, like a politician or something. Know why ? Because no matter all the rights US citizens are so proud of but lack anyway, and this fake fucking freedom shoved down their infantile throats, the people in these "NOT FREE" countries are more content, and happier and living better lives.

And that is fucking fact. How many illegal immigrants are here from England, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Venezuela, Libya, Zimbabwe, Zimfuckingbabwe !. We got a guy on this board from fuckling Palestine, who is obviously relatively homeless and pretty much treated like a N______ in many places. He doesn't even want to come here.

It's time for people to get their head out their ass and get rid of the illusion. We are no better than at least half of the countries out there, and I think we can do better. Infant mortality, health, savings, literacy, all of it, we are not even in the top fucking ten.

Don't wonder why I am half crazy, wonder why I am only half crazy. I am pissed, my Mother is pissed. This world has gone to shit and there is only one reason motherfuickers, PEOPLE.

You fucking tell me a different reason and don't try that Al Gore global warming bullshit. That bullshit doesn't work after my fifth birthday. Forty six years ago.

The reason is people.

I am no longer under contract with the USMC so I do NOT have to follow military uniform regulations. I DON'T affiliate myself with ANY GROUPS or POLITICAL ORG. I affiliate myself with the AMERICAN PEOPLE that's it. I REFUSE to affiliate with anything that SEPERATES. There is an obvious problem in the country and PEACEFUL PEOPLE should be allowed to PROTEST without Brutality. I was involved in a RIOT in Rutbah, Iraq 2004 and we did NOT treat the Iraqi citizens like they are treating the unarmed civilians in our OWN Country. No one was brutalized because our mission was to "WIN the hearts and minds", why should I expect anything less in my OWN Country.

Wait what? Are you calling the Occupy Wall Street Protest Civil Unrest? Do you want them killed? It would help if actually had a topic sentence like I dont know. "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ John F Kennedy

So America isnt Free? Is it because we need fishing licenses?  because we get groped before getting on a plane? So you support terrorism? Our Constitution is Crap? Why do you hate America?

So people from foreign countries dont want to immigrate to America. So you support illegal immigration? You support people that will steal American Jobs? Once Again why do you hate America?

If you dont like here then move. Renounce your American Citizenship and leave. Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity were telling all the liberals to leave during Bush's Presidency. Maybe you should follow their words. If you listen to them now they will say we need to stay and fight.  American Democracy isnt about "government for the people, by the people, and of the people" its for the people that can pay for it to be written in their favor.

Ok you angry, you mothers angry, your dog is angry, and your uncle twice removed is angry. So this was more of rant than a discourse or discussion of any kind. Your mad because people are protest, immigrants dont want to come to America, Europe has more Freedom than America, and so on. So I will ask again why do you hate America? Maybe you should leave, and take your mother, dog, and uncle with you. You said Russia was better, enjoy the cold.

By the way, What did posting have to do with the Marine Vs NYPD? Do you have a problem with the Marine Speaking out? The Police Beating up Protestors? The protestors right to assemble and protest? Conservatives wanting to arrest the protestors? or the marine fighting for our freedoms?

I notice my comments didnt get added. He must be living in a dream world if he think America will live up to same standards that we place on foreign countries. Hasnt the Iraq War taught him that even though the people protest the war, it was still going to happen. Besides the Goal of NYPD isnt to win the hearts and mind of the people, its to make sure they OBEY AUTHORITY.

I am reminded, whenever I hear or read a Rightist cry, "We should send in the troops against the Occupy Wall Street/Occupy Boston/Occupy Fill In The Blank protestors" of an incident reported by Bob Woodward in his book about the final days of Richard "Tricky Dick" Nixon's Presidency.

"Tricky Dick" Nixon called in Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Army General Alexander Haig (who was serving as White House Chief Of Staff at the time) to a private meeting at the White House and asked what they thought of his idea to use Executive Emergency Powers to declare martial law and have Army troops from Fort Myer arrest the Congress to prevent them from impeaching him. General Haig (in one of the few good things he ever did in his professional life) told President Nixon - his Commander-In-Chief, "Sir, the United States military would refuse to support you and would refuse to follow your orders." Nixon resigned the Presidency a few hours later.

Call out the troops against the "Occupiers" - and many would mutiny rather than obey.
