my ex was in the military......but.. you know.. i can't talk about that... "don't ask, don't tell" Imop... they get rid of a lot of fine ppl..and good soldiers for no reason at all. In a time when we need them so bad.. our military is short handed.. our National Guard is over seas (which they aren't supposed to be any way)..it's such a waste to kick ppl who want to be in there out. If ppl only knew what they sacrifice..what their partners sacrifice for them being in there.. maybe they would look at it a lot different..and try to change things. i know that we had to be careful with letters..phone calls..visiting..etc.. She could never share details of her life with anyone for fear it would be reported. Not only was this heart breaking for her.. it was for me also. If she had been killed.. i wouldn't have found out.. just her family..there wasn't support for me like with "military wives" even though i was going thru the same thing. It's hard on the relationship..and causes stress that doesn't need to be there for any one. So, not only are they fighting for our lives..they have to watch their own backs to keep safe from the government they are supporting. Oh, well.. until ppl demand a change..our government won't do anything about it..and we will all suffer the consequences of it in the end. ~butterfly

I suspect the military see gays as subversive types. Make love, not war type, decent people. Can't have those in the military, can they?

I don't think its an issue of subversive personalities but rather just archaic thought (or the lack of progressive thinking). Most estimates have the gay population at roughly 10% which would apply to the military as well. Its a major slap in the face to all gay people who haved served and should be to everyone else as well. Not to mention that the military is at an all time low in recruitment numbers. It speaks well to the idiots that are running this country and the armed forces at large. But then so does our losing two wars so I guess its to be expected.

MILITARY.COM recently had a discussion, or at least we attempted to between idiotic snipin' by some homophobic critters that attempted to condemn every logical or reasonable arguement for their retention in the military. It was started after some soldiers from the 82nd Airborne were arrested for participating in some Gay porn videos, and were discovered by an investigative unit of the military. I served four years in the nAVY and six in the ARMY; during those years, I met numerous active duty personnel that were Gay, Lesbian or bi-sexual, nurses, doctors, medics, infantry, airborne and Marines were especially paranoid, but they weren't any less willing to serve. Most of the 'Same Gender Commandos' that, I met were volunteers, not draftees, and they were as fearful of discovery as was I over My WiiTWD practices. Finding that there were Gay and Lesbian practitioners of BD/SM/Ds didn't come as a surprise for Me since, I was Mentored by two seniors that presented Me with the opportunity to interact and socialize with people that were having to remain as secretive about their homosexuality as we were concerning our BD/DM.Ds practices. Having known these people early on in My life, I was able to make My own decisions about whether they were worthy of having a burning stake driven into their anal orifices and left to perish after a long and excruciating period of suffering. I've heard so many methods of death that should be used on those that have differing sexual preferences and often thought that, I knew a guy or gal that would have loved to have those method offered to them.lol I'll admit that, I search for and read the profiles of those that makes an interesting post or reply and when perusing yours, butterfly, I was struck with some confuzzlement. The profile lists you as straight, but, I had the feeling that you were talking about a former same gender lover in your post. Let's don't forget who runs the military... those ordained as gentlemen by congress by virtue of a sheepskin of some color. Their logic is simple, if the written rules of the UCMJ (uniform code of military justice) forbids it, then it's a law and a contract, so nothing personal. As far as the rationale behind it, likely along the lines of the UCMJ codes forbidding fraternization between officers and enlisted swine. An Army Officer's Training Manual stated that enlisted men are sly, cunning and stupid, bear considerable watching and are not to be trusted. This is the upper cheese of a two layer society making all the rules as they see fit... the expendables need to be just that... good uniform fighting machines... and there is no sex between machines. Military anti-gay rules existed long before women were allowed combat jobs, and were based on unit functionality... all hetero males means no sex between machines. Military bases notoriously have strip bars and/or whore houses close to their gates to cater to hetero machines. The term 'hooker' stems from working girls servicing the four divisions of troops protecting Washington DC during the civil war, under the command of General Hooker. The military can take your pay, your stripes and kick you out for getting a sunburn... you are government property as a military member. Another point about the National Guard and Reserves not supposed to be over there... that's the way it works, the other strategically placed units worldwide may send some troops, but they will not close the doors and leave their locations. Guard and Reserve troops usually constitute a large percentage of deployed combat troops, especially in a new theater of operations like Iraq.

At least the way I'd define it, as in a man or woman, that is near exclusively attracted sexually to those of the same sex. Not really related but that 10 percent number seemed awfully high., and in my admittedly short search I found no real information backing the percentage. But by most estimates roughly 10% of people are gay. [:)]

Gentry Very correct.. i was. i was with a woman for 4 yrs.. and i loved her very much. The reason i have straight on there and not bi.. is that when ppl see it..most of the responses i got were wanting me to be poly..or.. since you like women.. I will want you to sleep with them, of course. Then my favorite...is when they want you to describe every intimate detail of sex with that person..so they can get their jollies. Personally.. she and i went thru so much.. i don't want our relationship to be narrowed down to strap-ons and dildos. i want a Master..and that's it.. now.. if i were to meet a woman and want to be with her.. i would of course bring it up to my Master and ask first... and when i am talking to One.. i kind of feel out how He might react to that. I think people are missing the point that they joined an all volenteer military, and are getting kicked out against their will. If you think joining the military is dumb, than this simply proves homosexuals of both genders are just as stupid as the rest of us all. From my limited experince, "don't ask don't tell" seemed to be the rule followed. Unless you were doing somthing highly visable, or stupid (like hitting on folks in the barracks, which is dumb even when they are the opposite sex), you tended to be safe. I don't exactly agree with the rule, and I can't speak from oodles of experince, but I can still say it's not like there's some elite team of homophobes hunting down people within the military. Besides, the military still looses more manpower from people they kick out for being overweight than for people who are kicked out for being gay. Oh, and Nasty Daddy, I have no idea what officer's training manual you're blabbing on about, unless it's from decades before I was a naughty suggestion from my father to my mother. On that note, I'm begining to support the idea of manditory military service, if only because so many people talk about the military, without a clue as to how it actually works, or what goes on. It's just assumed because they can spout what someone else wrote, that they somehow "know" all they need to know.

Oh, okay, because 1894 applies to today so well. I'm sure the military has not changed in the slightest in one hundred plus years. Which, for the record falls well into the "decades" comment I made. Perhaps in your age, your eyes have become clouded. I'm glad someone has taken notice of my spelling, and as such, I dedicate this next sentance to you, to show my concern for quality control in my postings. "speling is 4 lozers lolzor. in teh futur cumpooter wil spel 4 me wit maigc spac ray" I'm rather unconvinced at your 20 years of service comment. If only because anytime I say anything someone runs off and claims to be a former retired SEAL Specops Ranger with 25 years of service. I tend to trust the people who claim they were truck drivers for the National Guard for a couple years a bit more. And on that note, get back in the kitchen and fix me a pie, as you have no more right to tell me when or what to say, than I to demand you bake me things.
