My BFF has been fixated on getting her nipples pierced. She tried a few months ago, but the piercings bled and were excruciatingly painful for days. She finally pulled out the bar and let the hole close. But, because she wanted pierced nipples so badly, she just went back and got one redone. She said it was 5 seconds of pain, and no trouble since. I must admit, I really love the way it looks, so now I am considering getting it done. I hope this doesn't affect my S and M credentials, but I probably couldn't deal with days of nipple pain and bleeding. So, for those of you who have had this done, how common is it for it to not go well? How long does it generally hurt? And what could hace caused the problems my friend had the first time?

My daughter had her's done about a year ago but about 4 months into it one of them began to cause her problems she said and she had to take it out so she took the other out too. I don't know how common it is for there to be problems since I've only ever had temp piercings there but I've been told it can take up to a year to completely heal and you should not do any kind of heavy play while they're healing.

I had about 5 days when the piercings were awfully painful.  This is from someone who didn't need pain meds after a hysterectomy.  In those first 5 days I didn't want anyone near them or any tight clothing at all.  I also called the piercer some pretty colorful names I'm told.

I had one that refused to heal properly.  I did some online reading and read where sometimes there are microscopic flaws in the jewelry.  Had the piercer change the jewelry on the one side that had been oozing for 6 months.  Within 2 days all oozing stopped and in the past 4 years I've had no more problems.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

There will be days of pain. It's not an intense pain, more of a dull pain. (unless you are changing clothes in a dressing room sometime and a piece of a sweaters grabs hold of the bar and doesn't let go. But uhm...maybe that won't happen to you.)

Just do a lot of research, take the vitamins that are recommended for at least a week beforehand, have cups and warm water handy and buy the cleaning solution they offer. (you can make your own with distilled water and sea salt, but why bother?) It's been years since I had mine done, but that's all I remember. I did TONS of research beforehand though.

I don't know what happened to your friend the first time, but I'm guessing she had an inexperienced piercer. If you have a friend that's a dentist or doctor, I highly recommend having them numb you before you go get it done. Works like a charm!

It hurts, but not that bad. They will be quite sore for 4 days to a week, and tender for a week or so after that. I found that an ice pack now and then managed the pain sufficiently. And yes, braless and lose tops for a those first few days.

Personally I had no problems whatsoever with any of my piercings <regular ears, 2 labrets, tongue & both nipples>. Go to a good reputable shop and follow their care instructions to the T, also don't hesitate to call them if you have any worries, a good piercer will always be willing to check them and let you know if there is an issue and to give advice.

This website < http://community.tribalectic.com/articles/body-piercing-experience-what-expect-during-and-after > ranks piercings by pain this way.

quote:

Piercing Pain Rankings

(from least painful to most painful)

1. Eyebrow
2. Earlobe
3. Tongue
4. Navel
5. Nostril
6. Labret/Lip
7. Female Nipple
8. Cartilage Piercings
9. Male Nipple
10. Genitals

Note: Pain is completely relative to the individual.

This is a little misleading though, because while the actual piercing of the nipple was the most painful of mine, the tongue hurt the most afterwards and for the longest <about 2 weeks>.

If you are interested, I say go for it, they are pretty and they are a lot of fun to play with, however, I did notice a drop in sensitivity in my nipples after being pierced.

My guy offered to numb me using Oragel <I'm not sure if they sell it under that name in the States, but it's the stuff they sell to deal with toothaches>.

Haven't had my nipples pierced.
Navel pierced twice. Second time was much more painful than the first. Probably because they had to pierce through scar tissue from the original piercing.
My nostril didn't hurt at all to get pierced. Just made my eyes water like crazy for about 15 minutes.
By far my cartilage piercing was the most painful for me during the actual piercing and in the healing process. My ear throbbed for weeks and any touching of any part of my ear was just agony.

My experience ended in surgery and a scarred nipple. I will never get anything pierced again!

Real pain....four to seven days. After that keep them clean and think of them the same way you would ears when you have them done. Clean, turn, give them time to heal. You get used to it affter awhile(take my word for this I have more holes poked in me than a golf course) In my opinion nipples really don't hurt that much. If your aim is for pain try clavicle or anti eyebrow piercings.

The pain ? It felt like being stabbed. Then it was over.
The pain from "healing" was dull/achy and easily dealt with provided i didn't get them caught on anything.

The final result = Priceless
i now have pink shiny nips ~and~ have that wonderful sensation all the other females had been talkin' 'bout for years.

As a piercer I can tell you that, while people vary, this is the norm:

Strong pain during (mine were excruciating, for personal info), then less.

Aching, swelling and possible sharp pain for about a week or so.

Basic healing (where jewelry can Carefully be switched) done in about 8 weeks. No touching except with washed hands, no mouth on, no nothing until this point is confirmed.

Full healing taking 12-18months. During this time expect to sometimes still have lymph crusties and to experience sharp pains if hit against something, pulled on, etc.

Thank you Rumpus.  I will have to think about this some more.  I am getting a tattoo in November, so I will explore this at the same time.
