Years ago from eating all the wrong things and too much of them and drinking a LOT of beer I balooned up to 247 lbs and of course I wasn't getting any excercise! Not even walking! Now I'm a fairly big guy 6'0" broad shoulders, thin hips but that was simply waaaay too much weight for me to be carrying around! The fat went to my stomach, face and chin (s) I was miserable! I had no energy, I had to go out and buy my "fat clothes" because I could get in my regular clothes, I was in-active and felt like shit. So one day I just got sick of it, I started walking 3 miles twice a day, then 4 miles, then 5. I stopped drinking beer and cut down to one tuna fish sandwich instead of my usual three washed down with two beers or cokes. I drank a lot of water until I was sick of it, juices and that diet lemonade stuff. I allowed myself (1) coke a day at night. I was being a lot more active around the house, fixing, painting, replacing. I probably went from 4,000 calories a day (thanks to the BEER!) to about 1,500. It didn't take long before I started feeling better both psychologically and physically, after about a month or so and the pounds were were melting off. I went from 247 down to 219 in six months! When I was in high school I was 6'0" and 165 lbs, a string bean. But, we walkind everywhere then, we'd think nothing of walking 5 miles to go horseback riding and and 5 miles to get home. I was used to being fit in the military and didn't like the position I'd put myself in. I asked a doctor years ago if all the fat people had thyroid disease and she said, No, it's been my experience that maybe 2 or 3 out of 100 have it and the others are simply taking in too many calories and not expending enough calories. " "It's that simple." And a few months ago I joined Weight Watchers because the gym wasn't making me lose the pounds fast enough; I lost "3 pounds" the first week! ("APPLAUSE!") We don't see a lot of fat people at the gym, just a few and they've been doing a good job sticking with it. Also at the new year we get 5 or 10 but they're gone by the middle of February. But, as I've said before whenever I go to the Chinese all you can eat buffet I always see fatties. (probably "carbon loading" for the Boston Marathon.) And of course I don't stare at them or say anything to them. Now if (I) could motivate myself from being a big fat slob twenty years ago to losing 38 pounds or so in six months what can't anyone else? I used to watch that lady, Susan Powter on t.v. and she'd say "stop the madness, get up off that couch" and I have to admit that she probably got me going and I (was) lying on the couch when she'd say that! lol They told me at the gym that my "ideal" weight is 209. I'm 228 right now and I've set a goal to be at "209" by March 1, 2012. So watch out ladies, I'm going to be HOT in my tight pair of wranglers, Stetson and muscle shirt! No pushing and shoving! Like someone else said , "they have hundreds of excuses" just like I did! What do you do when you run out of excuses? Go out and take a walk!
