I'll bet you my heart that if one of those people that claim they like bigger people were given the opportunity to bang a "thin" model they'd do it.

BIG difference between banging and having a relationship. I prefer the teddy bears and have dated them almost exclusively.

I don't think he does either. I think it's mostly insecurity. S'alright, 20 years or so from now when his metabolism gives up he'll gain weight like the rest of us. In the end it all evens out.

but of course! my mistake. So no, not attributed to her (Anais Nin)... I guess I just got excited by the reference to her.

at the risk of being further OT - my favorite quote by her is:

“We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
to me that is quite profound

But your reference to Eduardo reminds me of something else I had heard about her recently, which you may also appreciate.
It came from Esquire's list of important women through the ages:

Anaïs Nin
Babysitter to big boys of American literature. Her diaries outshine, and out-scandalize, them all.

And even then, they would sooner get into a relationship with one if it were possible.

Sad but true.

I don't really want to be a part of this conversation but...I'm sorry Stalker the above statement is not true. I am in a realationship with a man over ten years younge than I who has had more than his far share of thin women. Many of them very atractive I know I have seen them. One even to the point that I asked him what the hell he was doing with me. He could only tell me she was to thin, to young, to shallow. That she couldn't hold a conversation and only worried about what she looked like all the time. I understand that you have seen it to be rare but trust me some men really do care more about a personality than they do a waistline. Well that and some men like big butts and big tits and well I'm sure you get the point.

Speaking for myself it depends on the guy's attitude. I'd rather be with an awesome dude who's over weight than "ripped" dude who lacks humanity.

Aye that's true enough, I dated a woman 20 years younger than me last yr , on the rebound & I got really pissed at having to explain who Frank Zappa was & why he was brilliant.

I sacked her for that, & calling Stairway to Heaven Hairway to Steven.

She wasn't kidding around either.

See here's the thing. Mmm'ok back a few Lamborgini recalled a Diablo for a strip down to work out why a car that should do 188mph was only hitting 150mph. Now the engineers all sat round & they realised not one person understood how the damned engine worked in total.

So an internal combustion engine is dead simple I mean spray squeeze bang blow is easy peazy innit.
so how can anyone be cock sure how a more complex engine such as a human being work?

They can't, but I'm afraid that the *calories in, calories out* isn't bollocks for many, many people.

It doesn't give license to be rude and tactless. That is just a boring lack.

I have 4 children, two different Dads...... totally different genetics.

The eldest two have a 5'10" *prone to podge* father who likes his food.

The youngest two had (he died) a 6'4'' Dad , who was muscle bound and ripped from a life of rowing to Olympic standards and who worked physically in a mediaeval way every day. Food was fuel to him , he wan't a *food lover* (he ate for fuel and hunger).

I have two children that were RAISED by the 6'4'' viking and two that were his biological offspring.

Two are thin, ripped and aren't *food lovers* (talking portion here, don't over-eat, eat when hungry etc) ..and two that DO love their food and DO over-eat (read as eat more than is needed) and are podgy.

Guess which two belong to which father? All were raised in the same home with the same parents from pre-school-age.

If my Biology lessons stuck the thyroid is a shit filter in the body. So it stands to reason that in an increasingly polluted/chemically driven world the thyroid will get overloaded or trashed, ergo more obesity.

Further. I did read a report that suggested a link between thyroid problems & long term pill usage.

That's nice except obesity started rapidly across the west, predominantly in the Southern USA, not in the most polluted areas of the world like the Indian subcontinent, LA, Detroit etc. You don't seem to understand the simple concept that obesity is caused by diet, and other hormonal issues are symptoms of this, not causes.

How the fuck would you know? Beyond joking last night we've never even spoken and we've never met. For the fucking record I've lost 25 lbs and the weight is still coming off at a steady pace. My eating habits are fine and healthy, in fact I consume very little junk food. And YES I do have thyroid problems for which I'm on medication, I just don't use it as an excuse. Unless you are a doctor please don't spout out crap you have no clue on.

I know because nearly all fat people are the same. Your problem is ignorance/stupidity, as your post demonstrates. You don't know the first thing about food and jump to all sorts of obscure medical conclusions that conveniently happen to alleviate you of responsibility. Eating properly doesn't mean avoiding junk food, it means consuming equal or fewer calories than you expend and keeping to a suitable ratio of macronutrients pre-determined by our evolution. I eat junk food, and I drink cola regularly, and yet I'm shredded. You think that's genetics? No it's because I know exactly how much I eat. You can either believe what makes you feel better or what actually works.

This thread is kinda sad. It's essentially a bunch of overweight people discussing possible reasons why their weight isn't their fault, and one normal person explaining dietary responsibility. Go figure.

What is sad here is your complete and utter ignorance of medical facts. You are aware that not all people are born the same way (apart from the obvious 2 sexes), a thyroid disfunction is nothing you get from diet, it's genetic. In case your metabolism shuts down, you can calorie count all you like, Einstein, it will be nothing else but a useless exercise.

You keep on eating junk food and kidding yourself that you're healthier than somebody who might have a bit more padding but who otherwise lives healthy, you might be shredded (only got your word for it) but you're still filling up your system with saturated fats and sugars, so your arteries are possibly a lot harder and clogged up than the arteries of a person who's genetic disposition is to be bigger and not "shredded" (you should really be more careful around office tools, you know), so who do you think will have a heart attack?
You logic is so incredibly stupid and bare all facts, what's next? You're going to tell people who are overweight to take up smack because it slims them down?

But what would I know, my BMI tends to be around 20 with very little fluctuation, I must be looking for excuses according to you.

Enjoy your junk food, I can hear your arteries clogging from here, hope you have a good health insurance, the surgery ain't cheap...

yes I do, the first sign I have that it's gone wonky is I start gaining weight again. HOWEVER I don't use it as an excuse, it's just something that makes it more difficult to lose weight...which I am.

People are idiots. They have no idea what someone else's lab test results are so they're just talking out of their asses. Mine say I have a low thyroid condition so I take levothyroxine to supplement it.

I say your "Biology lessons" did not "stick." The thyroid is not a "shit filter." On this page of the link it says The function of the thyroid, therefore, is to regulate the body's metabolism. Plus, I know if it was a filter for waste, I would have been taught that in nursing school. As for the pill usage, are you now saying that overweight people are overweight because they're pill poppers?
