Back in my town I just moved from, the local newspaper would  hold catered free lunches for their employees in the park right across from where I worked. A bunch of us would pretend we worked there and crash the lunch lol.

Hey it was free and no one asked for our work badges heh.

I live in the mojave desert and there are about a half dozen sites where movies sceens are shot within about a 20 mile radius. Easy to crash..."huh I live a couple of miles over there... whatcha doin???? Would I like to have some lunch??? .....
Catered food on a movie set is first rate.

just out of curiosity.. since they dont charge for the food, do they need to have a vendor's license or something to serve said food and do they get inspected by the health dept?

Technically, if it had to be defined, it would be a non-profit, equivalent to your local PTO bake sale. Ever see one of them need a permit? Besides, we're violating a number of local statutes with our so-called unlawful assembly. They can I suppose write a person a citation. But right now, the big prize seems to be relieving the individual of their freedom. Since no money is changing hands, I would say that the occupations are doing no more than having a large and very repetitive dinner party.
Now... As to the question of the health inspection....
Camp Passes City Health Inspection
October 27, 2011by Stephanie Fail Due to an inquiry from the Boston Herald, city health inspectors made a visit to Occupy Boston’s camp in Dewey Square Wednesday to check that all medical and food services offered to occupiers were up to code.  The food-serving station and medical tent both passed inspection. Officials gave a few minor suggestions, such as setting up a hand-washing station in the front of the food tent. Previously, campers had been relying on hand sanitizer, with the hand-washing station located at the neighboring medic tent. “They were kind of nice,” said Frank, a chef who has been volunteering at the food tent for several weeks. “After a couple minutes it was clear they didn’t want to be the media’s tool to take us down.” The other suggestions were to reorganize the dishwashing area, to keep things a bit neater, and to get rid of a fridge that was holding food at 48 degrees instead of the required 40. The medical team is also planning ahead by organizing a flu shot clinic for occupiers.

People braving the discomfort of sleeping on the ground, being in the rain and cold for weeks on end, is as far from whiney and loser as one can get.

It actually shows a lot of courage, fortitude and passion and is about a higher cause(not getting free stuff as some dim-wits have suggested).

They are very impressive.Whiners and losers would quit. There`s not much quit in these activists.

But exactly what have they accomplished?

Fortitude to stick to their guns? Sure. Courage? Only if you count it as sleeping out in a park with a bunch of strangers in NYC courage. As for passion, again, what have they done? Yes they are there every day. They talk to the press every day. They take and post pictures every day. Has anything changed? Not that I have seen or heard. Has anyone talked about what changes can be made because the OWS people have made such a logical, impassioned plea to people who count (not the media)? Nope.

Would seem you are easily impressed. I agree there isn't much quit in these protestors, but there isn't much action in them either. So they aren't activists. Leaving your home and living in a park doesn't make you an activist. You actually have to DO something for your cause more than "occupy" space in protest.

popeye1250 -> RE: Occupist Cooks Tired Of Feeding Freeloaders (10/28/2011 9:59:30 PM)

Many inner-city Alcoholics Anonymous groups have big urns of coffee and all kinds of snacks laid out on big tables and of course the street people know all about those meetings and they get a free meal and all the hot coffee they can drink.
As far as I know there's never been a problem with that as there aren't whole groups of them comming in just a few here and there.
I've always figured that if you're cooking large amounts of food and someone is hungry then feed them.
You don't know their story.

I agree totally. The OP left out some rather important parts of the article. Such as the "security" team of the OWS group entering and "inspecting" the tents of the people they deemed homeless and a problem. The term "professional homeless" in and of itself, as someone else suggested, indicates that they think these people are choosing to be homeless, not that many are mentally ill, or may have lost everything with the economy being what it is.

Essentially, the protestors, since they are "living" in the park, are legaly considered every bit the vagrant that the homeless people are. It's NYC for God's sake, didn't they realize that there is an overabundance of homeless and criminals about?

The way you lie around here, you should be an expert on the subject. So did you find that link showing that Rush was dealing drugs yet?

Hell yeah!

When I was in my early twenties, I crashed every wedding, barmitzvah (I had the hat....hey...I wasn't stooooopit!), went to every grocery store (on weekends) and got all the free food I could!

Momma didn't raise no fool.

ND The Occupy Boston have an open invitation to folks

Oh, and the food at Occupy Boston is nothing less than impressive. They collect odds and ends donations every day and on a pretty decent 6' gas grill and a couple of propane burners for boiling. They produce three tasty full meals a day. And no one gets turned away and everyone is invited.
No better time to sell a walk-up on an ideology than over a nice meal.
[:D][:D]

I like it.

If you are all about sharing the wealth, then share the fucking wealth.

You seem to have missed the point of ows.
1%own95% of the pie. Ows would like the 1% to share.
You want the 99% to fight over the 5%.

"Ows would like the 1% to share."

Pardon me, but I have to slam the breaks on this one forthwith. F*ck the 'sharing,' it's about preventing them from stealing it in the first place, lest that might have escaped notice.

Are the OWS crowd saying that it's somewhat OK that stealing widows' houses from under them with fraudulent balloon loan scams and cheating retirement funds and causing cities to file for bankruptcy via the CDO fraud are OK, as long as the perpetrators 'share'? Or that the ungodly amount of siphoning of tax dollars by the oil companies and the Koch Bros. is OK, as long as they 'share'?

Thank goodness at least some portion of those people (OWS) have more awareness than you do. Thank goodness also that OWS gives commies a barge pole welcome, so to speak. For good reason.

So by inference you are saying that the amount of people is only a function of free food....nice

So by implication you are saying that the number of people wouldn't be less if they weren't getting free food...brilliant. How about if they had to pay $10,000 a day for a permit to occupy the area they are occupying like the TEA Party had to?

mnottertail -> RE: Occupist Cooks Tired Of Feeding Freeloaders (11/1/2011 8:26:42 AM)

You don't have credible citations on that, because that is simply untrue. But we know that coming from you, devoid of fact.

If we got out of those crappy "free-trade" deals that only benefit big business none of this would be neccessary, would it?

those crappy free trade deals allows the US to buy Canada's/Alberta's oil (& I expect other free trade countries too) for $20/barrel less than the free market price. If it was up to me I would let you free trade haters freeze in the dark.

Btw, if you hadnt figured it out yet (20 years later), the majority of your friggin jobs have gone to China and India and ya got no fucking free trade deal with either of those countries. So as much as you try, your job loss has nothing to do with free trade deals..
