http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/10/27/355082/chart-hourly-wage-36-years/

This chart means that today's average employee makes only $1.23 per hour than his/her parents had.   And all while corporate profit and top wage earners have sucked up all the cash.  I find it interesting that wages rose when unions were strong, when regulation was strong and when the wealthiest paid higher taxes but still managed to do far better than the rest of us.

Wasn't there a wage freeze at some point and company health insurance was introduced to offset that? So. . . are benefits being taken into account?

Exactly, its a liberal site so their facts and evidence dont count. It doesnt matter if they have the raw data or what ever. Fox News is the best source of information. There polls equal 120% which is better than 100%

How about the US Census Bureau?  They developed the graph you would have seen had you even read the article.

Jesus fucking Christ, Erie! You've got six separate OWS threads going simultaneously on the top page. Did you pull a permit to occupy the forum?

At least Brain could come up with different subjects.

The Census Bureau didn't develop the Graph. The Policy Institute developed the graph based on Census data. Do you know how to read statistics?

In 1980, the minimum wage was $3.65 per hour. Today the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. So it is interesting that this chart indicates that the lowest wage workers (according to the Censur Bureau) were making $7.70 an hour in 1973, when the minimum wage was nearly half that.

This contains no information about how many people were in the sample they used, what types of jobs were used for the data or anything else. ALL which has a significant bearing on the results they show.

Learn how to understand statistic before you post bullshit like this.

By the way, they are claiming that the "90th percentile" is now making $77,979.20 per year based on a 40 hour work week, before taxes. Even their 95th percentile only comes to a hundred grand a year. That in no way accounts for the "top 1%" of the wealthy in America.

Current data is only available till 2010. In 2010, the relative worth of $3.65 from 1980 is:

$9.66 using the Consumer Price Index
$8.48 using the GDP deflator
$9.20 using the unskilled wage
$10.60 using the Production Worker Compensation
$14.00 using the nominal GDP per capita
$19.00 using the relative share of GDP

http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/

Just to be fair, I did the reverse.

In 1980, the relative worth of $7.25 from 2010 is:

$2.74 using the Consumer Price Index
$3.12 using the GDP deflator
$2.87 using the unskilled wage
$2.50 using the Production Worker Compensation
$1.89 using the nominal GDP per capita
$1.39 using the relative share of GDP

Even 68 percent of millionaires, according to a survey from the Spectrem Group, agree that the rich should get taxed more. It’s not in the interest of America to have people fall out of the middle class and into an increasing population living in poverty, as the economy continues to suffer through a slow recovery. The middle class is the engine of America’s economic growth.

A report released this week by the Congressional Budget Office found that between 1979 and 2007, income grew 275 percent for the richest one percent of Americans, but by just 18 percent for those at the bottom. The federal government can do something about this — from investing in our infrastructure to improving education. It can help bolster demand and the Half in Ten Campaign offers some good ideas to get us started.

It's A topic in the news, RML, and completely worthy of discussion, regardless of where any of us might find ourselves on the issue. Do you think spamming the forum is an incentive to rational discussion though, or simply an attempt to put up a wall of noise? My display shows 18 threads on the first page. 11 of those deal with OWS, and 5 (now) are from a single poster. I don't see that as an invitation to serious conversation, just somebody plastering propaganda posters down the length of the street.

One is about the injury of a Marine at an event... definitely politically news worthy and entitled to its own thread.

Next is one about the political abuse and possible police brutality... do note I said possible.. at OWS events... mostly about Oakland.

One is about another OWS site who had their generators removed. Not a long thread, but interesting information.

Next is about how the marines are joining... or it was supposed to be... until others decided the marines, even veteran marines, wouldnt join the cause, but that they would simply stay home and protest with votes. As if. Then it devolved into a "prove it" kind of thread.

Next is about the cooks and rations.

Then about a General Strike of the city of Oakland... something that hasnt been done in decades, if I remember correctly.

Next is the raids, when they began.

One I started about the city of Oakland backing down.

One about the city of Cleveland pretty much doing the same.

While a few could have been incorporated into each other, the majority seem to demand their own threads.

Ever visit the NFL thread, Tazzy? It just rolls along, embracing change as it comes.

Here's an interesting new development, which we can just put right into an existing thread.

City officials temporarily denied Occupy Madison a new street use permit Wednesday after protesters violated public health and safety conditions and failed to follow the correct processes to renew or amend a permit.

A neighboring hotel's staff alleged voiced concerns about having to recently escort hotel employees to and from bus stops late at night due to inappropriate behavior, such as public masturbation, from street protesters.

How hard is that?

Or course I have, Rich... and the I admit thread... and the other threads that just keep rolling along.

And you will notice I said some could have been combined. Some I would never dream of combining.

At the end of the day, we all pick and choose what we read, and what we respond too... and how we post.
