That's exactly what I said. I think I may even try it.

Cthulu!!! COOOOOOOOOOOL

Awake ye scary great Old Ones
Let everything dismay!
Remember great Cthulhu shall rise up from R'yleh
To kill us all with tentacles if we should go his way!

O' tidings of madness and woe, madness and woe,
O' tidings of madness and woe! (and great woe)

In Yuggoth and din Aldebaran the great Old Ones were spawned
Imprisoned by the Elder Gods to wait for long eons!
Enticing humans to release them,
Chanting dreadful songs!

O' tidings of madness and woe, madness and woe,
O' tidings of madness and woe! (and great woe)

An Arab said "That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange eons you will find that even death may die"!
The great Old Ones will rule once more
Then all will be destroyed!

O' tidings of madness and woe, madness and woe,
O' tidings of madness and woe! (and great woe)

Sadly, it is complicated. I live a half mile up a private dirt road, my property is well lined with No Trspassing signs, and I have 4 enormous dogs that don't look all that friendly. I still get the religious fucks coming to my door. Just like the ass hole described in the OP, those religious fucks don't care about other people's rights to raise their children the way they want, or to privacy, from what I can tell.
So I guess what you are saying Subrob, is I shouldn't send my kids trick or treating because if I do, it is my fault if someone behaves inappropriately and unexpectedly. Especially when all he has to do is turn off his porch light if it offends him that people are knocking on the door. Nice. I am not saying what this guy is doing is a hanging offense, or anything, but if this happened with one of my kids, he would certainly get an earful from me about respecting other people's rights to raise their children the way they want. I did not want my kids exposed to superstitious crap. What's wrong with that?

don't answer the door or just say "no thanks" and shut the door. Then again I tend to not open my door to total strangers. I creep it open just enough to ask who it is. If they say they are Jehovah's Witness I say not interested and shut the door. Simple. Why do people make things so complicated?

I still don't see what's complicated even with the signs and dogs. You tell them they are trespassing and if they would kindly leave. If they don't then you let the dogs do what dogs like that do I suppose. They either run like hell at that point or they don't and take the consequences of the dogs. Nothing else needs to be said or done.

This.

And if you are going to get your knickers in a twist over your child receiving a mini bible while begging from door to door on Halloween, then you should keep them at home. It is like they say:

Not really interested in getting sideways with animal control, thank you very much. Besides, the dogs only look scary. I, on the other hand, am really scary. I usually just meet the religious fucks in the driveway with a pistol hanging out of my pocket or an ax in my hand and scream at them to get the fuck off my property. I am really good at getting rid of religious ass holes, but thanks for the advice. See if you can explain this to me, though. What kind of people think what they have to say is so important that they can violate my property rights with impunity, and pass out unwanted propaganda to other peoples children without permission?

You know, the guy in the OP could just tell people to get lost too. Why is he making it complicated, as you put it, by foisting bibles on children without asking their parent's permission? All he has to do is turn off his porch light off. That makes sense to you, doesn't it?

This thread is just too funny for words. I must be a lot more easy-going than what I thought. I just don't see how these things get people pissed off. It just all seems sooo.....very very uncomplicated to me.

I guess people just like to be angry about something or other.

I have never been easy going about my property, my personal security or the raising of my children. But I guess people have different priorities in life, LW. What can I say?

Do you stay in hotels ever?

I just wonder as there are Gideon bibles in those as well. The full version, not the mini one.

Stop guessing, your bad at it. If you have no trespassing signs posted, just shoot them. Why are YOUR rights more important than his? He has the right to hand a Bible to anyone who knocks on HIS door. Your kid is soliciting from HIM, HE'S not soliciting your kids... If you don't like it, once again, don't go to his fucking house.

And I would have the right to go tell him to go fuck himself for giving my kid some piece of propaganda without my permission. I would feel the same way if it was racist or crackpot political shit, too. I don't care whether they knocked on his door or not.
The very well known and accepted custom in my community is to leave your porch light off on Halloween if you don't want trick or treaters. That isn't complicated, right? Someone who left their light on, knowing people would think it was OK to knock on the door, and then would use it as an opportunity to apostatize deserves to get an earful. What a bunch of shit.

Because, its been my experience someone who would send the message that its "Satan's" holiday and that he is passing out bibles, wont stop there. Better to avoid them than to go to jail for punching his face in.

But, no, I suppose you wouldnt get it. Some people are much more protective of their children and the values they are instilling than others.

Actually, yes I can.

And, no, I wouldnt keep them at home because some asshole doesnt seem to understand the meaning of the holiday and decides to make it his holy crusade. He can keep his lights off, or face a whole lot of angry parents.

And, by tradition, he has accpted the children coming to his door to "beg" for treats by leaving his porch light on. I would approve of a bible about as fast as I would a political flyer... its not the time, nor the place.

Exactly tazzy. I took and take my children's education very seriously. Damn straight I have the right to control what they are exposed to, especially when they are the age to go trick or treating.

If the dude wants to spend his money handing out free books of rolling papers, what's the problem? I certainly appreciate the Gideons making sure all the hotel rooms are stocked.
