i used to play this fucking marvelous game called amoeba wars. you had this space empire and you build these fleets to take over the other players' empires, but these fucking space amoebas appear out of nowhere and fucking devour your fleets and shit at random. i don't remember the details as it was a long fucking time ago and we would always get totally brain fucked when we played it. that sucker was a 10/10.

e2a: do NOT play scrabble with heather. never, never, never, unless you're into humiliation.

...Not into humiliation, but always looking for scrabble partners to play online! IRL people wont play me anymore. :(
Qi always seems to be the big pisser offer.

And you think heather humiliates.. try DarkSteven- I am still demanding a rematches rematch!

You should soooo get a game called ingenious though.
Or Quirkle- which is basically scrabble with colors and shapes, so it is easier for people to play, placement is still the dominant way to win, and they can't get pissed at you for using words like Qi.
I agree with NS... scrabble kills friendships. :(

I don't know if I'm any good at Chess anymore.  The last documented game of Chess I played was in 2005...

Only one way to find out... [:)] Though i admit i'm used to playing "electronic" versions of Chess, heh.

Omg, I love Clue. My sis & I went a tad overboard, with clipboards and various colored markers to use during interrogation.
With Yahtzee, we saved up moves. If we went with a straight on the first roll, we rec'd 2 chips for the leftover rolls.
Boggle was fun, and I loved playing scrabble & Twister as well.

I have 3 versions of Trivial Pursuit: Original, Baby Boomer & Star Wars. (I also love playing Buzztime Trivia in the sportsbars.)

oooo I miss boggle! I used to have a site I played it on.

Masterpiece. Playing it made me want to move to Paris, hang out at the Louvre and wear a beret.

Nobody has mentioned backgammon.
It paid for my education.

Had 2 friends who were mad for Risk, could play it all day.
Every time I tried to learn the game they would turn on me, destroy me quickly and then return to their eternal struggle against each other.
They are at opposite ends of the country now and still play each other online.

Backgammon's a fun game, too, though. [:)]

Come play with me Dreamy.

Afterwards we can try backgammon.

See if you can win your clothes back.

agirl -> RE: I'm bored so I'm going to rate board games. (11/6/2011 12:25:12 PM)

Scrabble does indeed rock....and Yahtzee. I play both a lot with my Mum. I also like Wordfued (which is basically the same) and I play that with other people from all over the world on my phone.

You must have been a seriously deprived child if you would rate (6) Hungry Hungry Hippos (which isn't really a board game...it's an ACTION TOY) over something as classic (5) Scrabble

Right, but let us not forget the main draw of a board game is to draw multiple people in.  A lot of my family cannot play Scrabble due to many of them being foreigners but anybody in the world can still play a damn fine game of Chess.  It's a fun game, Scrabble, but among the "classics" it is a little overrated and depending on your opponent, can be lopsided.

Does anyone remember the game Othello?
My twin brother and I used to have alot of fun with this game.

I remember Othello.
An ingeniously simple logic game.
It stayed fun even as you and your opponent got shitfaced.

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: I'm bored so I'm going to rate board games. (11/11/2011 5:55:28 PM)

We played a lot of games as kids.  I still remember "Hands Down" and "Don't Break the Ice".  I'd play monopoly with my younger sister, insist I be the banker and as she'd get money then I'd get some too as the banker.  Led to many a squabble and a cry of "MOOO-OOOOM" which would then get me in trouble.

Had a close friend who had the game Trouble but her mom didn't want us to play with the bubble that popped the dice, so it wasn't much fun to either of us.

I have about 10 editions of Trivial Pursuit, and a lot of friends who absolutely refuse to play with me.  Now that I live alone, well, not much fun playing by yourself.  Although I did have a CD-Rom where you could play against the computer.

I remember a fun game from when I was a child called "Stratego"...that was fun to play!

windchymes -> RE: I'm bored so I'm going to rate board games. (11/13/2011 4:44:25 PM)

I just spent the afternoon with my 5-yr-old granddaughter playing games....Candy Land, which I lost miserably twice, and then she brought out the current hi-tech electronic version of Operation. Man, have they dumbed that game down from when I was a kid! lol You used to have to have the dexterity of a neurosurgeon to get out the broken heart, the breadbasket, the butterfly in the stomach.....now, the metal holes are huge, and they don't even have the breadbasket and butterfly any more, no more wrenched ankle. Now they have a piece of cheese in the ankle, a frog in the throat, something unrecognizable on the pillow, and a freaking cell phone attached to the hand....which is pretty appropriate, now that I think about it.

I guess it's more younger-kid friendly, but I missed having to be so very careful to get those parts out with the little tweezers, getting BUZZZZED and jumping out of your chair, the red nose lighting up.

Windchymes,

Yes operation wasn't that easy a long time ago!

Does anyone remember a game using cards called "Mille Bornes"? It was a fun game..I copied below from the internet what the object of the game was...It was an interesting game!

The premise of Mille Bornes is that the players are in a road race. Each race—or hand—is usually 700 miles (or kilometers) long, but the first player to complete that distance exactly has the option to declare an extension in which case the race becomes 1,000 miles. Mille Bornes is played with a special deck of cards. There are hazard, remedy, safety, and distance cards. Each hazard is corrected by a corresponding remedy, and is actually prevented from happening in the first place by a corresponding safety. The target distance is reached by playing distance cards.

I remember Mille Bornes, but I only played it a couple of times when I was a kid, and I don't really remember much about it.

A game I really loved when I was a kid was called "Careers". You went around the board, tried out different careers like farming, politics, science, medicine, went to college, and you collected money, fame and happiness. We wore that game out, but I still have it all taped together.

And "Life", we played that for hours, still have it, all worn out.
