That is one really great thing about hiking like we did yesterday. When you park at the top of a really big hill and hike down that hill.......sooner or later you are going to have to come back UP that really big hill to get back home. In between going down, and coming back up, we hiked the river flood plain that has a lot of sand. That trip back up that hill gave me a good reason for a 30 minute nap when we got back home!

Yes, I think so. I try to eat a balanced diet. One of the side effects of one of my medications is really dry skin, and thin nails...

I have the dry skin.... but my nails have become thicker over the years. Now, I have trouble cutting them with clippers. Ugh! Its maddening!

can you try a vitamin? like a hair, skin, and nails vitamin? even though you hate lotion, St. Ives Collagen Elastin lotion is AWESOME for dry skin.

HA!! Yeah... me, my mom, and her best friend, on the Kalalau Trail on Kauai. Mom wants her photo op which is "just a mile" up the trail, which is the hardest hike on the island... An hour and a sprained ankle later (mine) I persuaded her to stop. I wrote a little travel essay on the experience. In my next life WHEN I AM SIX FEET TALL I will do that again.

Also, I think that there are supplements that are helpful. Vit E, Fish Oil, and one of my favs. Evening Primrose Oil. I just take it before bed, along with the other stuff.

My toenails break, they're so thin~ The salon guys don't get it when I say SHORT!! EXTRA SHORT!!

Vitamins and my digestive system are not friends...I swear it must be something in the binders. Dad has the same issue. Evening primrose, huh?

My goal is truly vain--next year I want to get the rest of my thigh tats, and I want my skin in shape.


I use Body Shop's Cocoa Butter Body Scrub....really brill at getting rid of dry skin and moisturises too. I also use their Cocoa Body Butter straight afterwards.

One tip....moisturise when your skin is still dampish and warm from the shower, not when it's bone dry again as it absorbs mucho bettero.

Do you dislike the feeling of being sort of slippery and slimey? If you do (I do too).....pop on some cottom jammies and just flop for a while. Over an hour or so that feeling goes as it sinks into the skin and the cotton jammies takes up any excess too.

Yes. Prior to hormonal changes I had very oily skin. Then poof, I turned into a desert wasteland. Dr Weil's website suggested Evening Primrose capsules so I tried them. It does seem to help.

OR.....another thing I've read is to take a spoonful of good olive oil daily. Not the yummiest thing to swallow but certainly better than cod liver oil!!!!!!!!!!![:'(]

My mother used to shove that down our throats every morning. The bitch.

I am a Dagonian, there is often olive oil to be had! It's what keeps us young and vital! Cod liver oil, that was for vitamins or something that was missing in the diet?

My grandmother, wrinkle free her whole life, was a Nivea maven.

My fingernails are trashed too, and without acrylic on them they would literally be bleeding and painful. I got into the pedicures, too...an an enormous luxury, yes! I can't wait until another one fits into the budget~

Guys are supposed to have wrinkles, grey hair/missing hair, calloused feet, scars, chin hairs, butchered nails, assorted odors etc.

Agirl, I am hoping someone else posts about chemical peels.  Like I said, I chickened out of a laser peel.  I have seen people who have had them done, and they looked like lobsters for a while, very sore and red.  I think there was a Sex in the City episode about this one time.

On the weight thing, I did buy a device a couple of years ago that literally changed my life.  It is called a Bodybugg, and it measures your calorie output.  I can't say I am sure how it works, but it is accurate enough that it assisted me in losing about 30 lbs.  I find that it undermeasures really strenuous aerobic exercise. and over measures things like horse back riding.  Still, it has been extremely helpful for me to have an idea of roughly how many calories I am burning, not just what I am eating.  It does require using the Bodybugg website, which contains a food diary and database of foods that I like quite a bit.  I find that tracking food is essential in losing weight and maintaining weight loss.  I find it easy to kid myself if I don't record what I eat.  I like the Bodybugg mobile app, too, because it also keeps track of macronutrients.  A lot of other food tracking apps just show calories.
