Good news out of Libya.

I can't imagine a better leader for Libya.  The guy knows energy, is presumably pro-West after living and working here, and is saying all the right things.  I just hope he can hold on and that tribal warlords and revolutionary clerics don't take over.

Then you haven't been paying attention to how things get done in Libya lately, Steve. He does, I agree, look great on paper, but I doubt the political infighting and faculty lounge backstabbings of the University of Alabama are going to be sufficient preparation for what he gets to deal with now.

If they want a Libyan expatriate from the West, to show as a public face, I think they would be better off with one from a big city gang task force.

Hill, getting to where we are today in Libya is supposed to be the part that was a matter of "days not weeks," back in March. Would you all care to share with me the source of all this optimism, or is it just a mirroring of those on the right who thought the first Iraqi elections were a big deal to celebrate?

Despite your colorful imagery, there are excellent reasons to be concerned about the stability and nature of what will rise in the wake of Kuhdaffy. With 26 out of 51 votes, this prime minister who does great press release, isn't likely to change that very much.

And...

El-Keib, an NTC member representing Tripoli, has been a member of the Libyan opposition. He is to hold the prime minister's job while Libya writes a constitution and prepares for a national election to vote in a new government, and said he plans to meet a deadline to form a new government within a month of the October 23 declaration of liberation that followed Gadhafi's killing.

The New York Times are now Obama ideologue approved "Alarmists".

He is a very good option, and for sure will have some support, specially in the big cities.

Still, I guess that middle-term we will see islamists in the Government. Which is not a catastrophe, as it is not in Turkey (Moslems) or Germany (Christians). Anyway, the USA are not exactly the country which can wave religion-in-politics as the biggest evil...

So... everything looks pretty ok, yes. If he manages to organise clean elections, we will have the first Arab democracy. Fine!
