tazzygirl -> China (11/2/2011 10:47:31 AM)

Are there any posters here that doubt China has developed nuclear capability?

Lucylastic -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:02:22 AM)

Considering they have had since the 60s. I hope there arent too many

tazzygirl -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:06:36 AM)

You do know what this is in reference too, yes?

mnottertail -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:07:20 AM)

westinghouse sold them technology and israel sold them (at the outset american) nuke weaponry.

And the USSR, of course, was nuke capable and the chinese had money, and they didn't get along all that bad....

But they have hundreds of reactors and have had for some time.

Hillwilliam -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:23:53 AM)

Im more concerned about Syria's attempts to obtain Nukes than China who has had them for decades.

Lucylastic -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:26:06 AM)

Ive seen the bullshit about china just NOW getting nukes.
Utter crap
I hope there arent to many people who buy it
its about ripe for some here tho

Hillwilliam -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:28:44 AM)

http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/china/nuke/index.html

According to this, China exploded its first nuclear weapon on Oct 16, 1964.

tazzygirl -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:31:25 AM)

So for someone to state that China is trying to develop nuclear capability would indicate that this person doesnt know much about China?

SpanishMatMaster -> RE: China (11/2/2011 11:41:20 AM)

From "As the Collar Turns"...

There is an interesting story there...

The USSR was helping China to get nuclear weapons. It was not for the money, they were allies (the Chinese had, at that time, actually not much money at all). But Nikita Khrushchev (a great man, we all owe him our lives) was trying to establish better relation with the USA (Eisenhower)... then he saw what Mao was doing during the "cultural revolution" and finally visited Mao in China.

His conclusion was that the man was out of his mind. He spoke merrily about the possibility of a nuclear war, because he considered that it would not damage a country like China much (overpopulation, small infrastructures) and it would destroy completely the USA (a country with huge infrastructures and depending on them). Khrushchev smiled and all, but was disgusted and afraid, and commanded the soviet scientist to withdraw from the Chinese program and even leave some intentionally wrong data behind.

China got the bomb anyway, but later, thanks to Khrushchev.

Yeah, I have the book. I also have Khruschev Remembers (by Khruschev fils re Khruschev pater)

~FR

HERMAN CAIN: My China strategy is quite simply outgrow China. It gets back to economics. China has a $6 trillion economy and they're growing at approximately 10 percent. We have a $14 trillion economy -- much bigger -- but we're growing at an anemic 1.5, 1.6 percent. When we get our economy growing back at the rate of 5 or 6 percent that it has the ability to do, we will outgrow China.

And secondly, we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they're a military threat. They've indicated that they're trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

For those who are wondering and too afraid to look for themselves.

Lucylastic -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:16:47 PM)

and I thought bachmann was stoopid

tazzygirl -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:26:13 PM)

And when has cutting DOD been a "priority"?

Which book? :)

Lucylastic -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:29:00 PM)

well all the bills getting put forward MUST have some DOD cuts mustnt they?>? surely?? I mean congress is full of good people cutting spending, like they promised? DOD must be an important cost that should be trimmed?

tazzygirl -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:34:53 PM)

One would think... but not according to Cain.

And... this little tid bit...

During an interview on Fox News last week, Cain came to his own defense in response to criticism he's faced on his knowledge of foreign policy. As for his critics, he said, "I would say to them, do you think I'm dumb enough not to study up on these issues? I have been studying on these issues for months." He added, "I have been consulting with former ambassadors, former national security advisers, I have been consulting with a number of experts to get up to speed on some of the situations we have around the world."

slvemike4u -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:35:28 PM)

How many times must I say this.....this clown is perverting the nomination process of the Republican party.The goal....to sell books,and raise his speaking fees.I,for one,hope it blows up in the pricks face....the perfect result for me will be that his book( currently on the Times bestsellers list) quickly finds itself in the bargain bin, and his speaking fees plummet.
there has to be some backlash for this farce.....Republicans should get pissed off at the public masturbation this man is conducting at their expense

tazzygirl -> RE: China (11/2/2011 12:43:37 PM)

Curious... one of the women is pushing to be let out of the agreement and allowed to talk. Wont that be interesting if it happens.
