ORIGINAL: Iamsemisweet Maybe I am wrong, but I guess I saw the mother's situation like this. She had just given birth. Further, she had been raised in a church that taught her that her husband's word was the law, pure and simple. So she would have had to get up, and drive her baby to the hospital, against the wishes of her husband and other members of the church who were with her. If she even knew how to drive. She could have called 911, but again, this would have been in defiance of her husband and other church members. Kind of a no win situation for her. I think if the husband had any balls, he would have said it was completely his decision and that he would have physically prevented her from getting medical intervention. Instead, they both go to jail. Fuck him. I still feel bad for her. The mother also could have stated herself that her husband wouldn't have permitted her to call for help and didn't. How many woman suffer domestic violence every day without ever leaving, and then one day, their abuser turns on the children, and that is all it takes, she is out of there instantly. What is the difference here? I believe in faith healing. However, I believe that when all medical procedures have failed and there is nothing left medically that can be done, that is where actual faith healing comes in. The bible does not condone this "no medical intervention" theory. It really can't since current medical technology wasn't even a dream at the time it was written. I believe the woman is a victim, but I also believe she has no right to her children since she allowed one to die. And what about her having eyeglasses? That is medical intervention. Personally, I think they should have received a much harsher sentence, and their children should be place in a foster family OUTSIDE their faith for the safety of those kids. I think each family within that church should be subjected to the supervision of Children's Protective Services to be sure those children are receiving necessary medical care. The parents who were allowed to serve their sentences at separate times? Total bullshit in my opinion. Freedom of religion stops when it infringes on the rights of others, even if those others are minor children under your care.
