No need to get in a snit.. i wasnt slamming religions. Just pointing out the illogical thinking of these two.

Btw "God" gave you a cock to reproduce... the fact that you have fun with it is the bonus.

"God" gave man a brain to learn... the fact that you realize you dont know everything is the bonus.

If that's a snit in your mind I shudder to think what you would make of it if someone expressed an actual emotion. You must live a very quiet life.

tazzygirl -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 1:25:16 PM)

I cant... every maternal instinct I have wants to beat the fuck out of her.

Your juvenile remarks are all you seem capable of adding to the discussion?

.........I think if the husband had any balls, he would have said it was completely his decision and that he would have physically prevented her from getting medical intervention. Instead, they both go to jail. Fuck him. I still feel bad for her.

I found myself agreeing with you and then I had another thought. If we are equal in all ways to men, then it's her responsibility as a parent too.

And yet another thought, she apparently doesn't operate within our society the way the average woman does.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 2:46:34 PM)

I am usually not that sympathetic to people who do stupid things for religious reasons, so I don't know why I am reacting this way.  For some reason, I see the mother as a victim too. The jury doesn't agree, obviously.
In another case involving this same church, the husband and wife were both sentenced, but were allowed to serve their sentences in turns, so that one of them was home with the kids while the other was in prison.  I haven't heard anything about an arrangement like that in this case, so their other kids are going to be without their parents for several years.  Sad.

tazzygirl -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 2:48:47 PM)

How do you leave children in that environment?

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 2:49:51 PM)

I don't know.  Maybe the state is intending to put these kids in foster care.  That will also send a message to the other members of this church.

LaTigresse -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 2:57:16 PM)

If the mother was mentally handicapped I would feel bad for her. It says nothing about her mental state being in any way impaired so I have to assume she has/had all of her faculties and knowingly, willingly, put her child at risk. That is to me, enough to convict her.

I don't care how she was raised or what her husband's belief system is. If she isn't mentally impaired she shares equal responsibility.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 3:04:51 PM)

Obviously, the jury agreed with you.  Like I said, I can't quite explain my reaction to this case.  I am usually the first to scream about personal responsibility and duty to ones' kids.
Maybe it is a timing thing.  I am reading a book about Warren Jeffs, and I see those women as victims of their religion too.  Sure, they could have left, but then what?

hlen5 -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 4:14:15 PM)

If you are interested in that sect, you might be interested in "Escape" by Carolyn Jessup.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 4:15:19 PM)

The book I am reading (Prophet's Prey) talks about Escape.  I am going to read that next.  Under the Banner of Heaven was great, too.

hlen5 -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 4:26:31 PM)

I keep meaning to read "Triumph" by C Jessup too.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 4:29:18 PM)

Technically, the women in the FLDS church allowed their daughters to be married off at 15 to old men, therefore were accessories to statutory rape.  But the more I find out about how that church worked, isolating its members and controlling their finances, the less I can see the women as perps, more victims.  Anyway, that may explain my reaction to this faith healing case.

hlen5 -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 4:33:03 PM)

"Escape" makes the FDLS's womens' disempowerment clear.

Maybe I am wrong, but I guess I saw the mother's situation like this. She had just given birth. Further, she had been raised in a church that taught her that her husband's word was the law, pure and simple. So she would have had to get up, and drive her baby to the hospital, against the wishes of her husband and other members of the church who were with her. If she even knew how to drive. She could have called 911, but again, this would have been in defiance of her husband and other church members. Kind of a no win situation for her.
I think if the husband had any balls, he would have said it was completely his decision and that he would have physically prevented her from getting medical intervention. Instead, they both go to jail. Fuck him. I still feel bad for her.

The mother also could have stated herself that her husband wouldn't have permitted her to call for help and didn't.

How many woman suffer domestic violence every day without ever leaving, and then one day, their abuser turns on the children, and that is all it takes, she is out of there instantly. What is the difference here?

I believe in faith healing. However, I believe that when all medical procedures have failed and there is nothing left medically that can be done, that is where actual faith healing comes in.

The bible does not condone this "no medical intervention" theory. It really can't since current medical technology wasn't even a dream at the time it was written.

I believe the woman is a victim, but I also believe she has no right to her children since she allowed one to die. And what about her having eyeglasses? That is medical intervention.

Personally, I think they should have received a much harsher sentence, and their children should be place in a foster family OUTSIDE their faith for the safety of those kids. I think each family within that church should be subjected to the supervision of Children's Protective Services to be sure those children are receiving necessary medical care.

The parents who were allowed to serve their sentences at separate times? Total bullshit in my opinion. Freedom of religion stops when it infringes on the rights of others, even if those others are minor children under your care.

So, should she have gotten the same sentence?
absofuckinglutely. the idiot cunt killed her kid through her own stupidity. and you people wonder why i consider religion a form of mental illness. what the fuck else do you call it when you refuse to help your dying kid?

he can't help it, he's male, he wants to fucking talk about his cock.

domiguy -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 6:44:08 PM)

I once cured a dying baby. True story.

Termyn8or -> RE: Faith healing (11/3/2011 7:16:09 PM)

Do tell.

Also, I wonder how we ever heard of this in the first place. They give birth at home, not go to schools and shit most likely, and when someone dies they probably just bury them. Especially someone small like a baby.

I believe people have the right to refuse treatment, whether that allows them to make that decision for their offspring is a can of worms that needs not be opened at this time.

None of this makes much sense, sterilize them for killing their kid ? Why bother ? They have the situation under control. If something like this whips people up into a frenzy I'd hate to be around them when something REALLY happens.

T^T
