I am sure most have heard of eye contact restrictions but I am looking for what is the purpose of them.
Is it something that you heard a Dom must do?   Is it because you feel the s type is not worthy to look at you?  Is it a form of objectification?

This is open to both Dominants and submissives.

Thanks in advance.

I do this in play sometimes. Tormenting them and making them curious about what I am doing and not allowing them to look without the benefit of a blindfold, can be fun. When playing bad boy... and wicked domina, its just a part of the play.

I'm sure some use it differently, but personally I wouldn't see a lot of purpose in it, in my relationships. When there is truly an issue, I want them looking right into my eyes and they are not unworthy... because anyone I am with is worthy.

I am one of those "look at me when I'm hitting you" gals.

The idea is that the sub is NOT WORTHEEEE of looking directly into the superior's eyes, that they should be kneeling and head bowed. That's kind of a cute idea, but eye contact really enhances communication. I don't see it ever being part of my dynamic, and I truly have never seen it as part of anyone else's, even a high protocol person's. How can a person looking at the floor see you gesturing for another iced tea? Or even see that your glass is empty?

Maybe I am too practical.

Thank you ladies, I personally like to be made to look at my Dom because really it is more difficult.   Most of the time you want to look at the floor especially if you did something wrong.   I guess that was why I was wondering why people used restrictions.

For me, eye contact restriction is when I lose my glasses.

Hey, after that post on that other thread... people may be afraid you will shake your bracelet at them. You can't blame them for being afraid.

I had a rule that I could not avoid eye contact when talking to him. It was a really bad habit to always avoid eye contact with people, and he gave me the rule to change that.

It wasn't something I got punished for, I got verbal reminders if I didn't but when I got better about it, he was happy with me. I think it helped me become more confident.

That gas passing was a warning 'safe word'.  Besides, it's shit it wipes off.

Most times when we're playing I'm blindfolded or hooded. I'm simply an object for him to use for his entertainment, amusement...no eye contact needed.

Any other time he likes eye contact and I like looking at him. The only time I have a hard time looking at him is when he's in one of his intimidating moods and he burns holes right through me with his eyes lol. He loves to watch me squirm and get all fidgety during those times lol.

Eye contact is a fun one to toy with because it offers so much. D can respond with a glance that gives comfort and says "you're doing great", or a glare that says "your shit". When it's restricted to say, when D is inside you, it gives that glace worlds of power. The anticipation and wonder last and last.

I see eye contact restriction in two ways:

One: as a way to control the sub----> tell them where to look.

Two: as a way not to make it intamate. When you look someone in the eyes, it can be one of the most intamate things someone can do, especially if there is sex going on. Some people just want to keep it as sex and not get emotionally involved. This is a way of controlling this.

Eye contact restrictions. My late husband used to have me look at the floor, usually when I was in a state of...what should I call it...a state of agitated violence...meaning that I was seriously looking to hurt someone, which in turn would just really hurt me because...well, he fought back lol.

Seriously though, when I got in a state like that, He would grab me, push me to my knees, force me to stay there, literally, and tell me to stare at the floor and think about calming down. Most times, he had to forcefully hold my head down until I got control of myself. Then, he would let me go, but tell me to keep looking at the floor.

He told me once that it was his way of forcing me to understand that my anger was harmful and that I needed to learn how to control it; and if he had to force me into that state, he would. I have to admit, even all these years later, when I find myself slipping those reins, I will look at the floor, and breathe deep until I regain control of myself.

I guess it worked.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for though.

I remember quite some time ago, I was with a Dom who used eye contact restrictions sans blindfold on me. It was really difficult because I liked him a lot and the look of his eyes. To me cutting down on eye contact cuts down on communication. So Daddy and I don't have any eye contact restrictions. When I have a sub of my own, I also do not have eye contact restrictions. I like to see into his/her eyes, it enhances communication. And if s/he has done something wrong and wants to look at the floor, it's all that more important that s/he looks right at me. hehe I am one that does not even mention eye contact restrictions on my profile. I don't mention it at all, rather than say it's a hard limit or that I hate it because I like to have a minimal amount of negative on my profile.

I use eyecontact restrictions when she's in "it" mode.
It dehumanizes. It strips dignity. It sets her in her place.
In other words, snickers, I love it.
