Divinesub -> How did you get your title? (5/26/2006 4:27:36 AM)

After being in the lifestyle a while, I realize that there are different titles like, Sir, Master and my personal favorite, My Lord.  But how are these arrived?  Do you just wake up one morning and decide that you are a DOM and therefore need a title that let's everyone know that or was it given to you by a submissive after much care and love?

I will admit to being jaded at this point - however, the most sincere DOM's that I have met haven't had these titles.  They are simply "Joe".  The submissives always grant them the title.

feastie -> RE: How did you get your title? (5/26/2006 4:31:33 AM)

I think they found them in a box of cereal, cracker jacks or put a quarter in a gum machine.

To the Op:  Submissives give their Doms titles?  <Hummmm, maybe Brigader General?  Mad Despot?  He Who Must Be Obeyed? >

i had no clue this was part of forming a D/s relationship.  i may have to think on this awhile.  <i was only planning on naming His -- ahem -- c**k.>

Is there a crowning or s'thing ceremony as well?  Can You recomend a site for me?

KatyLied -> RE: How did you get your title? (5/26/2006 4:59:35 AM)

I think they have titles in order to give us a smile & chuckle.  Honorary titles mean nothing to me.  Unless I know or respect the person, I'm not going to do some silly M'Lord or M'Lady knee bend.  But those who do amuse me.  So it's all good.

there was recently a thread about what to call/when to call Dom/mes by *respectful* titles... (or something to that effect)...  now where is LA when you need her for a link??? [:D]

In reply to KatyLied: Now i'm confused.  i thought the Op said that a submissive gives her Dom a Title (presumably at a crowning ceremony or s'thing).  What you posted sounded more like chat room silliness.  Or do we get to go around giving out Titles to Doms willy-nilly?

And Btw, why am i just hearing about this phenom now?

There's the "Caps or no caps" thread in the General Discussion Forum, is that what you meant?

HA!  Oddly enough the search function doesn't seem to be working for me right now.

99% of the time, titles are self imposed cuz they sounded cool when someone needed to decide what name to make for themselves when they got online.

The other 1% is likely actually PART of the leather community (not the same as the bdsm community, but overlapping) and followed some sort of standards over time to have a position within the community for such a title.

interestingly enough, His name is "Joe" and that's the only thing you'll ever hear Him call Himself... i, however, call Him "Daddy".....

most titles i have seen have no basis in reality but are used more online....but that might just be my experience.....

DragonDiver -> RE: How did you get your title? (5/26/2006 8:45:10 AM)

Titles: are just that unless they are awarded, most are honorific by nature. If someone is respected in their local community then they may find that the term Master is placed upon them by others as a sign of respect. I tell people that I am Master to those whom are my charges, but I never require nor expect that from others until it was laid on me by the nature of my duties within the community. I am the coordniator and one of the instructors for the APEX Academy/Butchmann's Experience and was the Dungeon Master and trainier for APEX for about six years. Now some consider themselves Master because of the fact that is what they feel they are, or because they wish to be. I tell people that Mastery is a journey not a destination and if someone calls you that title as you journey except it for what it is an honorific. Also Master is non gender specific, it is not bestowed on one just because they have exteral bits. See my article: http://www.leathernroses.com/domination/drgnlordtopdom.htm where I explain it a bit more in depth. basically no one whats to start at the bottom of any new community all want to be a big dog, it is more prevalient online than in the off line world because it offers more anonimity to those behind the keyboard, harder to do when you are hold the single tail or giving directions in the front of your peers or even in front of an experienced Bottom/Sub/Slave (note: the caps, these are proper nouns and therefore are capped) (pet peeve of mine) well. back to the original question I was given it as I earned it and I wear it with humble pride, it is a badge of status not a cudgle of power, the power is within the dynamics of those involved at the moment.

Depending which title you are refering to. "You pays you money and you takes your choice...."
  1. Ownership of a slave.
  2. Being the Master of  a Gorean Home.
  3. Earning it with a Masters Degree.
  4. Earning it with a Commission in the Military.
  5. Earning it with a Pagan "ordanation".
  6. Hereditory.

Yes!
Sir is often used upon contact, I beleive as only being respectful. What I am to be deemed is usually after much consideration, talking and time getting to know one another. Much like submissives become named by their Dom.
I was called Lord once and it never sat well with me....especially when I emailed her and signed it "Your Lord" I felt blasphemous and had to change it.......to Your Ass![;)] Kevin

PlayfulOne -> RE: How did you get your title? (5/26/2006 11:24:52 AM)

Well once upon a time in the beginning of our relationship I called her little girl, and she answered yes Daddy.  So I am Daddy and sometimes depending on whats going on she calls me Master, at times she even calls me by my name (Gaspthe horror) especailly when we are around her family.  I just use my name when talking to others anything else just seems silly.

Isn't there an ad in the backpages of Rolling Stone (or is it the National Enquirer?) that you can write off to and get your titles of Dominance plus a lovely framed document that displays your title of choice, all for only $49.95?

My title of Master was earned from my submissive. it was earned through hard work, honesty and definately a lot of trust. outside of that, all it takes is time, trust and honesty.
