This has probably been asked many times before, but I am going to ask it anyway.

What are your views/opinions on the differences between a submissive and a slave?

You're right mew, it has been done to death. If you do a search you will find enough threads to keep you busy for the next year or so.

edited to add that it may really be a huge waste of time as not one of those threads has ever answered the question definitively and I doubt that anyone ever will

A submissive is a person who wishes to be dominated by another, and a slave is a submissive who identifies as such.

The difference is a personal thing that only you can answer.

I'm REALLY not trying or meaning to be snarky here- but why are you asking this question?  Especially when you know it's been asked so many times before?

Your post opens up the door to get some insight on this, which I have been curious of for quite some time.

ok, I'll bite.. today i think...a slave's action is to be submissive....so perhaps... if we gave the action of submission within a bdsm context a name..we would call it slavery

I am sorry, and I do apologize.  I should have just done a search on this BEFORE I posted the question.   I am new here, and I was just looking for some insight from others on the subject.

Please accept my apology.

Thinks i am going to stay quiet about this.  E/every person has their own concept and ideas pertaining to this so it is an individuals idea as to what they perceive as differences.

G'morning all:

Even though this topic has been done to death, I'll add my two cents. Being a less frequent poster, I've never entered the fray on this subject. To me, a key point of definition between submissive and slave is the matter of rights. I'll probably piss off a whole bunch of folks. Realize this is not directed to any one person or such. Your  interpretation of your orientation is descriptive for you. This is just my (not so humble) opinion.

I've always viewed submissives with more rights than slaves. Although both wish to surrender, submit and hand over control to another, there's levels of degree. A submissive retains more self, more of their innate characteristics which initially attracted the dominant. Slavery is more total, more final, a progression if you would. The ultimate act of giving over one's self into another's care. Allowing themselves to be molded into what that individual sees as preferable. Frankly, it's not attractive to me. I dislike the micro managing that this encompasses. I enjoy a submissive partner that can function, think, act on their own and not be reliant upon me for all aspects of their daily living. Not that I find slaves to be drooling idiots. Far from it. I just don't seek or require that level of relinquishment. There are some facets of slavery which are appealing and that I incorporate into my relationship wth my boy, but not the whole enchilada.

In the end, it is up to you what makes you comfortable. No one else. I identify as dominant. Many that meet me for the first time without the benefit (or curse, lol) of interacting with me in the chat room of my choice (North East room on Alt.com) would mistake me for a submissive lady, simply because I'm courteous. *shrugs* I was taught to have manners, ie: saying please and thank you, addressing strangers as Sir or Ma'am, holding doors for the elderly, etc. Unfortunately, some view this as a weakness or as a servile posture. Which always leads me to wonder when did common courtesy become less than human/e? {rant over} Anyway, just because others view it disparagingly, doesn't mean I'll stop.

Like a co-worker of mine is fonding of saying, "You do you." Go with your own flow toots.

Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others...

Bella
