I pointed out to him that while I might look younger than I was, I looked well over 21 and the ABC wouldn't have any trouble figuring that out.

I've never had that happen but I would have just responded with, "I can speak for myself." I think that sort of sums it all up and it could be used in a vanilla situation as well. But, I agree that I dislike it when people are butting in.

The people who've come down on me for being submissive were some of my closest friends. They don't understand it, think I'm being taken advantage of and generally get all up in arms about it. So I just don't tell people anymore, I don't have the strength or energy to argue that I'm quite comfortable doing what i do and that at the very core of my being it's who I am. I'm not going to change their minds, they're not going to change mine. So we agree to disagree and leave it at that. Now if a perfect stranger said something to me, then that'd be a whole nuther ballgame. I know my friends have my best interests at heart, they've seen me go through some hellish experiences with me, (before the D/s part), so I understand their viewpoint. But if someone comes along who doesn't like that P would sit down instead of me, or whatever the situation was, well, he knows me well enough that I can be a mouthy thing and things are going to be said.
