Kiwi was cheap, available, and worked; perhaps someone else can discuss the merits of other brands.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Boots (11/15/2011 8:12:04 PM)

I have several ( often conflicting) ideas on boots.

If you read my profile, you'll notice that I have an unabashed love of heels on a woman.  Oddly, I don't like seeing a sub or a slave in boots.  They seem to Dommely (is that a word) for the role.  On the other hand, I do enjoy looking at, well, pretty much all women, so I don't mind seeing them on a Domme or a vanilla woman.  Just weird I guess.

Do hunting boots count?

I think being on the receiving end of a boot-blacking by a woman would be very sexy,   I haven't tried that yet. OTOH, actually trying to wear them during sex seems like it would be difficult.

Would any of the ladies care to comment on that?  Pumps allow your ankles to flex, boots would kind of restrict that.

NiceButMeanGirl: The trick to finding boots in your size is to shop at a place where transvestites shop.  One of my exes had trouble finding shoes until we went to DFP in NJ.  The (then) new owner suggested we go into the room for cross-dressers.  There she found several pairs of great shoes.  Word of warning: apparently men's sizes are a little larger, so you'll be looking at size 12's.  Until you know the manufacturer's sizing, always try the brand at a store before buying on the net unless they have a really good return policy.

Which leads me to my next point...

LillyBoPeep:  She was 5'10" and had rather large feet for a woman.  I'm the same height and have small feet for a man.  You only don't like heels on a man because you haven't seen me sporting a pair of shiny gold 4" stiletto pumps and looking FABULOUS!  Wait, still straight. looking sexy, not fabulous.  I might have a picture here somewhere.

hausboy -> RE: Boots (11/15/2011 8:21:41 PM)

I love love love boots. Always have, always will. Men, women don't care.  Boots rock my world.

My first real pair of boots were traditional all black, solid leather combat "jump" boots. I re-soled those suckers twice and they finally wore holes through the top and sides--no duct tape in the world would save them!  I earned my first pair of boots-- harness boots--when I was 21--those are the engineer boots with the cock ring/harness strap down the side.  I wear boots everyday now for my job--I've got two pair--Bates patrol boots and Converse 8" duty boots.  I still have my first pair of boots, and they still look pretty damn good.  Take care of your boots and they'll last!
I often wear my olive drab/black jungle boots to parties--go well with boy shorts.  Plus two pair of shitkickers and a pair of steel toe construction boots.  (and hiking boots, but those are all function, no fashion)

I have a lot of friends who black--I truly don't have the patience or the passion to black for hours on end.  I do my boots...and my Sir's boots.

Kiwi is easy to buy and inexpensive--and they make a decent black and oxblood.  I always apply dye first...wait 24 hrs...then put 3 coats of polish.  Black.....oxblood or blue...then black again for the spit shine.  Old socks work well for applying the polish.....soft all cotton tee shirts (no ribbs) for the buffing after the brush.   I use a hair dryer to soften--I don't "light it up" to liquefy it.

Kiwi or Kiwi Parade gloss.

Personally, I'd start with a brush off (to get rid of dirt etc), then brush on (brush dabbed in polish) - to get a nice even coverage, then it's to the cloth - and if you want to get an awesome shine, spit and polish.

MistressSnow -> RE: Boots (11/16/2011 1:16:37 AM)

As a fem-dom, I love (yes really love) having a good boot-black, take care of me and the boots I am in. There is something erotic and sexy with a boot-black that truly enjoys (and gets off) doing the job. I have always prided myself on very good leather boots. With the exception of the boots I am wearing on my profile picture. LOL--- those were borrowed for a shoot. Ended up liking the shot enough to feature them. Anyway, back to the point, from this tops position, boots, and boot blacking can be glorious.

Also- if I may add, I do not have a sub bone in my body but I also LOVE men in boots, such as motorcycle cops. *swoons*

Maybe I have a boot fetish??? :)

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Boots (11/16/2011 1:51:45 AM)

@Malcolm, I think I remember hearing about your exploits in the sparkly gold pumps. =p Haha
I don't really have an issue with s-chicks wearing boots, but I can understand what you're saying. It's possible that you associate the boots with authority figures.
I don't really do that, unless an authority figure is wearing them. =p

@hausboy -- thaaaaanks very much ^_^
When you say you earned your boots, is that a Leather thing?
I only really want to learn to do it as just a new skill, and do it for friends if they need it. I really enjoy meticulous, detail-oriented stuff, too. =p
Thanks for the tip on the colors, too -- I'm guessing it makes the color richer? Not so flat like just straight black would do?

@Ishtarr -- Woah, those first ones (and the others they link to) are reeally complex. =p That would be interesting. =p

@crazyml -- Someone told me that parade gloss would actually damage the leather. Thoughts?

@MistressSnow -- What do you get out of it as the person receiving the service? That's a viewpoint I haven't encountered much. Most boot-info is pretty centered on the person doing it.

As the person receiving, there is a certain erotic (I keep going back to that) feeling when a boot-blacker is rubbing my calves and ankles through the leather. Slowly, carefully, and lovingly taking care of my beloved boots and my legs and feet that are in them. I am sitting in a position to look down at them, and do a lot of eye contact or gesturing that might be perceived as enjoyment (which I am enjoying). I am also in the position to "tip" the boot-blacker for a job done well or not. Most of the time the tips go to a charity, but I make a big deal about tipping them. That can be a scene unto itself. I must say though as a disclaimer I have had some of the best out there black my boots. I will not name names, but majority have been women and have been exceptional.

My .2 cents. Thanks for listening.

crazyml -> RE: Boots (11/16/2011 2:08:58 AM)

I use parade gloss on the toes my brogues - and have done so for 15 years with superb results. But!... The leather on the toecaps isn't subject to the flexing that other bits of the shoe are - and I use regular kiwi for the rest of the shoe.

I wouldn't use PG exclusively on long boots that you wanted to keep supple, and if you really want to keep the leather on a decent pair of boots supple, it's worth conditioning the leather from time to time with a decent conditioner (fwiw I use Meltonian/Lexol on my Doc Martens).

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Boots (11/16/2011 2:10:55 AM)

That's interesting; it sounds like it's a power thing in a way? I haven't done it for anyone yet, just starting out, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes, and see what I feel, if anything.

And yeah, I've noticed that most of the really well-known bootblacks are female. Maybe it's that whole "shoooess!" thing? I dunno. =p Women do tend to be more detail oriented than men, so maybe it has something to do with that? Who knows. =p

hey ml

no on the parade gloss--it can totally damage your boots in the long run.  Every experienced boot black I've ever talked to told me to stay away from parade gloss--the only place I've ever used it was a small dab along the seam between the sole and the leather.  My military friends also confirmed that parade gloss is a no-no.

SailingBum -> RE: Boots (11/18/2011 12:07:58 AM)

Ya know if you take a buffing wheel on the end of a drill or say a dremel it will "spit shine" without all the labor.

Oh yea you gotta check out this video of Bootsy Collins <Yep yep that is his name> playing with the funk bros.

there's an old thread from 2005; most of the people didn't use parade gloss, but one guy posted saying that he used it and liked it but that he also stripped his boots twice a month?
would that have any effect?

i totally know Bootsy Collins, SailingBum. ^_^ haha
