Presidential Candidate Michele Bachmann has stated that the US should be more like China. The reason, no food stamps, also each person must plan for their own retirement, I would think she is referring to Social Security as well. Also removing other programs that came for LBJ "Great Society" which could be a referrence to Medicare.

I think it should be pointed out that for the most part...retirement is not something common in China, you work until you day. Also slave labor, single government, no elections, Chian has many problems it is far from perfect not to mention the civil right issues, so if Bachmann is elected I guess I will be like many in China who disagreed with that government, I will disappear.

Yet wasnt this the same woman who collected for foster childen?

Advocacy groups warn that Bachmann’s proposals to shrink government would have profound effects on child welfare services. The House Republican budget, which Bachmann voted for, would cut the program’s spending by $1 trillion over the next decade and give states freedom to lower benefits and raise eligibility requirements. Foster children, who automatically qualify for Medicaid benefits, make up a tremendously disproportionate amount of its spending, especially on mental health services. Bachmann likely understands these difficulties better than anyone: all 23 of her foster children were teenage girls suffering from psychiatric disorders. In addition, her husband’s therapy clinic has taken in over $137,000 in Medicaid funds to help treat low-income patients.

And even the number of children she "raised" is misleading...

Michelle Goldberg quoted Kris Harvieux, who worked as a senior social worker in the foster care system in Bachmann's county, who said at least some of Bachmann's placements were likely short term.

"Some of them you have for a week. Some of them you have for three years, some you have for six months," he said. "She makes it sound like she got them at birth and raised them to adulthood, but that's not true."

According to Goldberg, the Minnesota Department of Human Services reports that Bachmann's foster care license allowed her to care for at most three children at any one time; she had the license for 7 1/2 years.

Not once did this woman ever state she turned down money from the state to "help" raise these children.

And, if we really want to dig more, what about the farm subsidies?

Bachmann is as full of it as the rest.

Bachman shows her ignorance yet again. Does she really not research her claims before jamming her foot in her mouth ?

How she ever became a possible candidate for the Republicans is beyond me, at times she manages to make Palin look smart.

China has a benefit system.

BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Foreign employees working in China have been required to pay into the country's social security system since Oct. 15, according to a latest social insurance regulation.

Once the details are rolled out, more than 230,000 foreigners in China will be included in the country's welfare system for pension, medical insurance, unemployment, work injury and maternity benefits.

The new scheme will be implemented by local governments before the end of this year, but companies will have to back-pay contributions from Oct. 15.

In Beijing, the salary cap for paying social insurance is 12,603 yuan (2,000 U.S. dollars) in 2011. For a foreign employee earning that or higher, his employer has to pay about 4,096 yuan every month, and the employee himself needs to pay about 1,326 yuan.

........

"There's nothing wrong with the country making sure that everyone has basic insurance." K. Lesli Ligorner, an attorney in Shanghai for Paul Hastings, was quoted by USA Today as saying.

Maybe we should be more like China

Steven, yeah, good point.
Or maybe put everyone on slave wages and export cheap plastic junk to foreign countries that will fill up land fills in three years.
There are probably a thousand reasons that we shouldn't be doing any business with China.

LOL.  A thousand reasons why we shouldn't be doing any business with China, but 1.164 trillion why we should.

Bachmann is a dumbass, and will never be president, but she does kind of have a point here, once I think about it.  It is pretty hypocritical for the US to complain about China's way of doing business, and then have its hand out to them for cash all the time.  I personally can't stand that country's abysmal environmental record, others criticize their stance on human rights.  I think once you borrow money from the devil, in affect profiting from acts you believe are immoral, you have lost the moral high ground and can't really expect to be taken seriously.  The US has lost all right to complain about any policy of the Chinese government.  It isn't like we can or will do anything about China's policies on family planning.  We will just keep taking their money.  China's economic model is about the only one in the world that is working now, and the US would be in huge trouble now if China had not lent us money and will continue to lend us more.

If you are trying to say we shouldn't have borrowed money from them in the first place, you are right, but that train has already left the station.

I had an opportunity to see a lecture by Henry Kissinger about China and their world view.  Say what you want about that old pirate Kissinger, he is familiar with this topic.  He say's China's attitude is that they were the leader of the world for centuries.  It has been a bad few hundred years for them.  They know they will be back.

Perhaps this is their moment.

Yeah, you and sweet are right, why not import all of our manufacturing base to China and put 50-100 million people out of work here!
Then Oblunder will tell them; "Don't worry! We're going to make all of you machinists!"
Then if we had to go to war with them we could ask them to build us some planes and ships.
Oh sure, strict sanctions on S. Africa for decades because of "arpetheid" (sp) but want to throw female babies in the river...? "NO PROBLEM!!!"
Big business has too many factories in China so "we" wouldn't want to upset *that* applecart now would we?
All the demonstrations that we're having in this country are just the tip of the iceberg.
Oh yeah Mike, keep using those personal attacks, that'll make you look real,..."intellectual."

Sadly, it's a bit too late to get rid of Bachmann that way (though she inarguably acts and talks like a baby...)

Bachmann made long-outdated comparisons to argue for lower spending on social welfare programs. She said she would cut Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” programs.

Bachmann: If you look at China, they don’t have food stamps. … They don’t have AFDC. They don’t have the modern welfare state.

AFDC” is a reference to the old Aid to Families With Dependent Children program, but it no longer exists. AFDC and several other federal aid programs were replaced by the 1996 legislation commonly known as “welfare reform.” Taking their place is the current Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program of block grants to states.

And technically, “food stamps” don’t exist anymore either. Although that term is still in common use, the program is now formally known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and no longer uses the paper coupons. Legislation enacted in 2008 only allows electronic debit cards to be used.

And in any case, while China may not have programs exactly comparable to food stamps, SNAP, AFDC or TANF, it does have programs for both social insurance and medical insurance.

Been There, Done That

The candidates also repeated claims we’ve heard at least once before:

Bachmann said that it was “quite likely” under President Obama that Medicare and the military’s Tricare program “will collapse,” and “everyone will be put into Obamacare.” That’s a softer version of the claim she made at the Oct. 11 New Hampshire debate, where she said unequivocally that Obama “plans for Medicare to collapse.” There’s no evidence for this bewildering claim. Medicare is a government-run program. If seniors were forced off of it, would they end up with subsidized private insurance, something Republicans have often espoused?
Romney said it in the last debate, and tonight he said it again: “We should not pay government workers” more than those in the private sector. The average government worker does make more in salary and benefits than the average worker in the private sector. But the comparison is misleading. The average federal worker has more education and more experience, too. For details, see our Dec. 1 item, “Are Federal Workers Overpaid?”
Gingrich once again claimed credit for balanced budgets that happened after he left Congress, saying: “I helped balance the budget for four consecutive years.” But as we pointed out back in March when he made this often-repeated boast, he was in Congress for only two of those four years.

My cell phone was in China.  My television was made in China.  The computer I am using right now was made in China.

Yeah, we should just stop doing business with China, when they make virtually everything Americans want.
