I found with my kids that while they were breastfed, their poo was very mild, almost sweet-smelling. They didn't get stinky until they went on solid food.
This also has been my experience

Umm AneNoz, I dare you next time you are in court to tell a judge what you just said lol.

So, would it be inappropriate to feed a hungry baby a bottle while in a courtroom? Because you still have to burp them, clean them, and they fill a diaper with something vile, too, needing changed. So, if that happens, do you change the baby in the courtroom, or leave? So, should babies be allowed in a courtroom at all???

I found with my kids that while they were breastfed, their poo was very mild, almost sweet-smelling. They didn't get stinky until they went on solid food.

Honestly, babies shouldn't be in a courtroom at all. (imo) And if you have to feed, (bottle or breast) go outside the courtroom.

Actually, I agree, and if I had had to make any court appearances when I had babies, I think I would have found a babysitter. But, it's a different world today, young parents seem to be more willing to take the kids with them everywhere. Maybe the mom in question couldn't find a babysitter?

So I guess you don't want to hear what happened the first time I fed them prunes? [:-]

xxblushesxx -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:14:30 PM)

That's very possible. I also think that people feel much more relaxed today just doing...whatever they feel like doing.
Where I was raised to have a certain amount of decorum in certain situations (& no, being poor doesn't matter. You can get a nice dress at Goodwill for 3 to 5 dollars) many people are comfortable behaving in public as if they are in the privacy of their own homes.
I think it's just a different mindset, and I'm not sure it's for the better.

AneNoz -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:17:23 PM)

I will do so with alacrity and with no fear, I have as much as done so in lands where a judge has it in his power to do much beyond what a judge in America may do. To suffer persecution in the service of truth is a noble thing to be embraced. It is the duty of every person to stand for the truth and the right in all things, is it not?

FR,

Silly judge

http://www.ncsl.org/default.aspx?tabid=14389

Forty-five states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location. (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.)

Just because you *can* do something, doesn't mean you should. There are ways to mitigate the distraction this causes...why not do them?

kalikshama -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:28:28 PM)

No one was distracted but the uptight bailiff.

When I was in yoga teacher training, one of my fellow trainees wore a big turtle necklace, which I found distracting. I dealt with it.

We do not know this for a fact. The only "facts" we have are the ones this lady gave us. I don't see her as an unbiased source.

I haven't read all the pages of this thread but does anyone know why she was there, and what type of court it was?  To me, this does make a difference in why it would be disruptive even if it wasn't being obstructive to the court continuing, if that makes sense.

She was there because she had gotten a ticket for operating a boat without a boating safety course (she was unaware she needed the course). The child was there because he had an ear infection and his daycare wouldn't take him.

barelynangel -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:34:35 PM)

That's what i am trying to figure out, how do people who are stating it know that she wasn't disrupting more than just the court officer?  The article i read in the OP didn't go into any of that.

AneNoz -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:39:01 PM)

It will go as it would be expected to go. The judge will be angered but as I will be on the side of truth he will relent. If he should incarcerate me in the process of his relenting, my solicitors will force my release and the judge will be chastened and both poorer and the wiser for his efforts. How else could such a thing proceed.

searching4mysir -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:41:59 PM)

I read what she had originally posted to the "mommy group" online. She was already feeding her child when her case came up. She asked for a moment (I presume to unlatch her child and straighten up her clothes) and when she saw the note the bailiff gave the judge she got upset.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Breastfeeding In Court? (11/15/2011 6:43:09 PM)

Which would be one thing if she WAS in Alabama, not simply from there.
