I think that if OWS had started out with stated goals and, more importantly, a methodology for achieving said goals they would have seen wider acceptance.
Most people have placed them on the political left but the things they decry are on both sides of the aisle as shown by the Abramoff thread. Had they taken pains to show that the problem is truly nonpartisan, things might have played out quite differently.
