If you can prove you worked the hours and how much they are paying you, file a small claims case against them. You did a service, they agreed to pay you. Whether or not it's cash, you sound like you had a contract. Send them an invoice for services rendered and outline the hourly wage per your agreement, outline the days you worked and how long you worked and put the total they owe you on same. Get those texts printed out or make sure they are saved on your phone. It shows an intent to pay you and is VERY important especially if you don't have a contract. Send them a letter with the invoice and state -- something along the lines of per your text to me on ______ day at ______ time, you confirmed your intent to pay me for the services i provided to you for (service). Please provide payment to me by such and such a date or i will begin investigating my legal options. As i am sure we would both like to avoid legal action, i look forward to receiving the amount of _______ that you owe me for services rendered no later than such and such date. What this does is confirms their text to you, outlines clearly your agreement they would have to refute, and states certain how much they owe you. This is NOT legal advice, its simply a suggestion as to an option you have. Most people will bullshit you until you simply go away. By putting things in writing, you start a paper trail and that can be used in court. Save those texts! angel

They have told you all the other people they owe money to. Their idea is to see who they can stiff the longest. Don;t let it be you. Next time they call, refuse to do anything for them until they get current with you. Don't even listen to anything they say. Tell them you won't work for them until they pay you what they owe. And I wouldn't do anything for them unless they pay in advance going forward.

Oh dear Lord woman, this one is as simple as can be. Monday morning you ring them five minutes before you're expected, and tell them that while you're very sorry, you simply won't be arriving that day, or any other until you are paid in full all that you're owed. Then you seek employment elsewhere, content in the knowledge that you have made their lives a living Hell for a few days at the least.

Shit ... I would be scared to death of leaving my kids with you. Even my 12 year old neice who babysits has more common sense than to keep working for someone who doesnt pay her. How is it that you understand how to run a computer? Im sure that must be some high core shit in your universe.

Leave it to Steve to figure that out (IIRC you are self employed right ? I assumed at least) Companies do it all the time, keep stiffing people and most of them can't or won't do shit about it. I expect it out of companes and government now. But these average folk that do shit like this are growing in number. They are younger and stupider, and probably don't give a shit who watches their kids. This is not a comment at all about the OP, but if she were an axe murderer and whacked one of the kids, they might use her again if they can get her on credit. The fact is that trustable people trust and these untrustable people are taking advantage of that fact. And they'll just go through people as long as it takes. There are millions of websites out there to sell shit, how about more websites to NOT sell shit. Any company that stiffs you or customers that try to scam businesses, shit like that. Call it BLACKLIST.COM ! Or BOYCOTT.COM. Like a craigsNOTlist. Or eBoyfuckyou.com. Like pricewatch.com, icewatch.com for unscrupulous jewelers who switch diamonds on you. But the same goes for customers. I know there are crooked TV shops out there but do you know how many people try to scam TV shops ? There are also crooked auto shops, but there are certainly scammers on the other side of the counter as well, I can assure you. I would go'em one trip. These deadbeats need to get current, it's $140 then it's $140. That comes before you watch anyone. That is at the door, don't even walk in and I mean that. The bucks go in your pocket BEFORE you walk in the door. They should understand that you expect payment at the end of the work, but you don't want to be a bitch about it so if they don't have it OK, but from now on they only get one ahead. They are going to owe you for tonight, that is due next time, before you sit again. And one more thing - I don't know what your style is with kids but I like to interact. It's something to do and they need it. Make them love you. That way if they do find someone else the kids will be asking for you, where you are and all that shit, PLEEEEEEEEESE can she come back ? WA WA WA - - - - - MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA..... and so forth. Then maybe time comes for a little increase once you have a firm grip on the short hairs :-) T^T

Im alittle annoyed that people are judging me saying Im not a "decent" babysitter based on the fact i "allowed" someone to rip me off THIS IS THE FIRST TIME these people have done it to me....NORMALLY i have have asked from pervious employers CASH UP FRONT but these people have been pretty decent every other week they have paid me what they have owed me. I am a GREAT child care provider! Seeing as none of you truly know my childcare style, I probually a little to "nice" to those who i watch their kids as in i somtimes let things go but I am a DECENT child care provider so please keep the judgemental comments out of this convo its ignorant that someone would just say they WOUDLN'T let me watch their kids because someone (the bad person in this situations NOT ME) HAS RIPPED me off) how wa I SUPOSE to know this time they were going to rip me off??? Ive made them sign a doccument saying (when i started with them that they would pay me every OTHER week in full) so maybe if it comes down to it i take that to court??? I like to think that i'm not totally stupid...im not some 14 year old im 29 years old not totally born yesterday!!! I ask for advice on what you think i should do NOT judging my chachactor! I frankly dont care if you (the reader) wouldnt allow me to watch your children (i'm not on here trying to find a new job) ive decided that im going to concentrate on school because I'm sick of people thinking its okay to rip off the babysitter! Children do like me and that's all that matters! I come with a police clearence, first aid/cpr and a daycare background and many many years childcare experince so i think i'm doing fine should i choose to go back to child care! Babysitter: A person who looks after other people's children in exchange for compensation, usually monetary. Sucker: A babysitter who keeps on doing it when she doesn't get paid.

BUT its not always like that....Ive had many good experince and many who have made agreements AND paid me...! Its just the odd few! Im just not goiing to babysit anymore Im going to look for a job a supermarket or retail or somthing because atleast LEGALLY they can't screw me over like these people! id have proof of when i worked how long etc! problem solved.

Have you considered demanding pay in advance? Let's say your client claims to want you to babysit from 6 pm till 2 pm. Get the money up front and if they come home earlier than planned you can return some cash. There is a saying that says "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." Their normally pretty good on paying me but NOW if they babysit its cash on advance IF i ever work for them again and thats a big IF!

People might be saying they wouldn't let you watch their kids noticed how you called these people's kids bratty. You didn't just bad mouth the parents, in your rage, you badmouthed the kids. No one really wants a sitter like that. You talk about how you are 29 years old, not 14. It would help if you didn't rant and rave and write like a 14 year old and acted like the adult you claim to be. THIS makes you feel the need for a "stress relief tablet?" Consider yourself lucky.

What I said about making the kids lub U is like a little kicker for job security, like at a regular job, doing it well gets you some security at any decent company. Spoilem rotten ! That's a nice little ace in the hole. Of course with those Parents you're not going to teach the kids fiscal responsibility, it'll probably be unlearned by lunch the next day. Whatever negativity you might be picking up from me is directed at the Parents. Trust is mutual, and they trust you with their kids, but you can't trust them. Uh huh. They could save that $140 and call some psycho bitch that'll put their kids in the oven or the washing machine. They could be considering that option right now. Actually I would watch kids for free as long as there are no diapers involved - ONCE IN A WHILE. If it gets to be more than once a month then I want something. When it starts to be overnight the freebies are over. This "owe me a favor" shit can't go on forever. In the end[o], I would follow my advice. All the money as soon as you get there, and no more than one gig behind. Also if their plans ever inderfere with yours, it IS upfront. So it's a foregone conclusion that you are a good babysitter at least, maybe fantastic, whatever, and you are doing this either in their home of yours. This is better than an institutional setting for kids, take my word for it. If you are doing it at their house then they do not have to drop the kids off anywhere. Hey, their little deal is starting to look pretty sweet. Perhaps if they don't cough up soon you might mention a day care center. I guess I'm soory - but I am hard on people who stiff people on work. When someone does something for you you pay them. Our time is irreplacable. I always prioritize paying up with people who DO things, like fix the car for example. If someone fronts me a pair of speakers, and I can't pay I can give back the speakers. (unless I blew them out) but you can't do that with labor, which means time. T^T

I let that shit slide these days because people will typo things they wouldn't even say. I don't think it's desirable but there is a hell of alot of it going around. I might be caught dead doing it from time to time. Different words have a different impact on each person. Besides, kids ara all bratty if you think about it, and stupid. the motherfuckers will do anything, and I mean anything. My buddy used to call his daughter a "little britch". This was totally in jest and he was a very good Father and she turned out great, but someone once said that he was an asshole or something like that for calling her that. Incorect judgement. We have a member here who calls her wonderful daughter the "Brat". Anyway, I don't let words "pierce" me like others do. I find this a good thing. T^T

Termy, the "bratty" comment was only a part of it. Most of the people here who are parents are seeing someone post who is having a temper tantrum, AND calling the children that she watches "bratty." People get funny about their kids. Especially those with the brattiest kids, lol.
