We are getting trendy, no question. It's something worth noting that one evening I was writing a rant on submissives with ill mannered or combative profiles. Towards the end I went to find a few profiles to use as "bad examples" and after looking for what was so plentiful earlier, I coul now find none. Then I noticed that from an earlier 18-99 setting, I had returned to my default of 35-99, and in so doing, discovered something very interesting about age and manners.

chuckles And yet I recieved a message from you, KennelDeSade2, about how well-mannered and well-spoken I am (Thank you for the compliment, by the way). My 29th birthday is tomorrow, so I'm still below the age range of 35-99. [:)] That said, I think manners and behavior are an individual thing, really. Either your parents (or someone else) taught you the correct way to behave, or they didn't. I suppose some folks with bad manners may eventually realize that's why others don't react well to them and work to improve. I suppose one can link good manners to maturity, but one's age cannot be used to indicate maturity. I have seen very mature 18-year-olds and some extremely rude and immature 50-year-olds. It all depends upon the individual in question, IMHO. Regards, zuma

I disagree on where manners are learned, and feel that they can either be beat into you as a child when it's easiest, or you can learn them as an adult and you have the drive to put your hand on the ladder and climb up out of the slime. The powerless have no need or in many cases no use for manners. The energy manners take to acquire and maintain is beyond the ability of their wretched hand to mouth existences to support. But, if you gain power, you learn manners. Or, you don't have power very long, because manners is an expression of self control adopted by the powerful and the intelligent to keep from having to kill each other over small slights and unintentional insults. You can climb up and join the club, but unless you have the self control of which manners is one of the more visible extensions, you have a sign on your forehead that says “I'm not ready for to play with the big kids yet, throw me back.” Good manners are always good form, because they show that you respect others enough to treat them as people of resources, until they prove themselves otherwise. How the current cult of “yo bitch, and farting as a fashion statement” ever got to become common currency, I'm truly amazed about. I do hope one day that members of that cult will realize how badly they where mislead and just before they embark on developing manners, they line up those responsible against a brick wall and . . . well, make an example of them that will not be soon forgotten. Good manners, makes for civilized society. With the choices being civilized or animals, we should be smart enough it's not a choice that requires much thought.
