Thanks for the link. The author nailed it in my opinion, although the seeds go back to when Gingrich was Speaker of the House. A friend of mine likes to point out that many of the Republicans today got their start in the Nixon administration...

But that article summarized nicely my viewpoints on what's happened to Republicans today.

There's a LOT of folks that are looking for any excuse in the world to not vote for Obama next time but the RNC won't give a viable choice.
This.  I honestly believe that is why Obama was elected in the first place.

I think the reason they didn't try very hard 4 years ago was there was an assumption by the RNC that Hillary was going to get the nomination and after the 8 year Dubya Debacle, there was no way any Republican was gonna beat her. Noone expected Obama to get the nomination and they could have beaten him with a quality candidate but it was too late.

This time around, there is NO FUCKING EXCUSE and they're still dicking around with a bunch of clowns.

From my POV,it was when the neo-conservatives took over.It was a sea change.

The neo-cons pretty much turned every conservative ideal on it`s head.

I wouldn't disagree. But oddly enough, some of the definitions are surprising:

neoconservatism -n (in the US) a right-wing tendency that originated amongst supporters of the political left and has become characterized by its support of hawkish foreign policies ~World English Dictionary (Collins)

neoconservative -n moderate political conservatism espoused or advocated by former liberals or socialists. ~Random House

neoconservative -n a former liberal espousing political conservatism ~Merriam Webster

K.

I`m going by the folks who called themselves "neo-cons", before neo-con became associated with Iraq, failure, torture and treason.

It was about a three-four year period just after 9/11 till about the time things-Iraq, became FUBAR.

I think they thought the term was sexy and .....well,"new".

It was for those short years, a name they embraced and used for themselves.

The war in Iraq was supposedly going good and the torrent of malfeasance and buffoonery hadn`t quite become known yet.The war in Afghanistan was just starting to be neglected and didn`t show it yet.

Starting around the time no WMD was found to about the time bush`s term was over, nobody, not even the neo-cons wanted to be called neo-cons.There was even a small effort to distance themselves from the term, some claiming they never used it.But it stuck.

Of course there are other definition and redefinitions but I`m refer to the members of PNAC,Project for the New American Century. The leadership of which strangely enough, became in charge of the world`s most powerful fighting force.

How is it that no one is interested in that strange coincidence?

How is it that a small obscure think-tank who espoused a belligerent preemptive war theory become the who`s who of the bush admin. and our Pentagon?

I've always thought much of the conflict today is derived from the hard feelings of what were then the young generation of conservative leaders when Nixon resigned.
