ORIGINAL: LillyBoPeep Awww so pretty :) *bemoans her kitty allergies* A friend has a former barn cat, though, who I absolutely love, and if, for some reason he couldn't keep him anymore, i'd dose up on any number of allergy meds for that cat. :p LBP, I don't know if this would interest to you, and I have had no personal experience with it, but here goes. Regarding cat allergies: In Matthew Wood's book, "The Book of Herbal Wisdom, pg 464: In my practice, Solidago virga-aurea (goldenrod) comes in most handy for hay fever. Along with Apis mellifica, Propolis, Arundo mauritania, Silicea and Ambrosia artemisiafolia, the majority of cases will clear up. I know of no better remedy for cat allergy, although it will not cure every single case -- just almost every case. Boericke describes the eyes just right: "red, ingected, watery, stinging, burning." The eyes of the Solidago patient look like a person who has just gotten out of a swimming pool. There is a generalized redness of the conjunctiva. There are not the bright red blotches of Euphrasia, the glazed, painful red of Pulsatilla (or sometimes Euphrasia), or the blood-shot vessels of Ambrosia. Withi this there is congestion, sneezing and running of the nose, redness and irritation of the skin. Solidago often has welts from allergy, a fact not mentioned in the literature I have seen. This makes it compoarable to Apis in many cases where there are welts. Preparation and Dosage The leaves are picked during early summer, flower tops during the latter part of the summer and early fall. The root is taken during the fall. The leaves are used to make the tea. The flower tops make a nice tincture in brandy. The bulk herb, the tincture, and the lower potencies (with potencies, I assume he means homeopathic remedies in pillule/pill form) can all be used, and possess about the same traits. Material doses are probably better when there is real kidney disease, but in milder cases they tend to cause aggravations, such as conjunctivitis. The potencies work better for the allergies. Wood is one fellow I'd love to study under. Here's his site for those who are interested: http://www.matthewwoodherbs.com/Mattwood.html
