And as to the claim by some that, "There is no attack on christmas... non-Christians merely wish to be respected too", that claim doesn't hold water against the seemingly annual cries to remove a Nativity display (which is often completely tended to by individuals in the community), instead of simply ADDING a religious/spiritual display of their faith/beliefs.

What has been mentioned is that the whole "don't say 'Merry Christmas' seems to be an American issue. Christmas itself is not an American tradition and was celebrated long before the United States even existed. Christmas was first celebrated around 300AD, about 1700 years ago. I would say that excludes it from being "more of an American traditional holiday."

I don't know besides a few kooky exceptions it happens much here. And I don't think sensible atheists really give it a whole lot of thought. And I, like you describe offer up Merry Christmas as "good tidings" in the spirit you describe, not some order to honor Christ or something like that.
    And yeah, it's commercialized and even has victims when you factor in some of the loneliness that occurs and YES COMPETITIVE SHOPPING. But what's really perfect.

When one says to act Christian, I take that to mean to act like Jesus Christ, not as per the Bible or the church. Now, I've only had nine years of Catholic school, but I seem to recall that Jesus Christ was a pretty loving and caring individual, whether you believe he was the Son of God or not. When one emulates the type of man that we believe Jesus Christ to have been, that is what I take to mean someone is acting as a Christian.

1. Yes, there are bad people also in other groups of population, but in Christianity they are over-represented in all the aspects I have told.
2. You can take that to mean what you want, but many Christians did not ever know how Jesus Christ acts in the Bible, and even today many prefer to quote the Old Testament. You, if you take it like that, you probable take it wrong.
3. On thing is what they say they want to act like, and another how they really act like.
4. Jesus Christ was the guy who killed the fig tree. And the one who prefered to be oiled with expensive oil instead of giving that money to the poor because "there will always be poor, but you will only have me for a while". How generous. Besides, he was delusional.
5. And this, about Jesus Christ, character of the Bible. If we speak about Jesus of Nazareth, the real person, then I don't think he would be worried in any way if God decided to send Saints to kill every Roman in Judea ini front of his eyes. On the contrary, he would have been pleased.
