Sam Walton... again, humble beginnings. Dad was a farmer.

Too bad his heirs didn't share that humbleness.

They are among the ten richest families in the world but are spending money lobbying against the inheritance tax.

How many billions do you need to survive?

"Liberalism" (cough, cough) punishes said hard work and success while rewarding those who seek failure, Steven...

Wow.  That bothers me a LOT.  Part of the entire America concept is the mobility.  The idea that someone, through merit and hard work, can rise.  IMO, that's part of the reason America has been so successful, is that people get rewarded for their contributions, and as a result, we get patents and new company startups disproportionately compared to the rest of the world.

Opportunity and reward.

Do you want to give us any proof of this or just continue to foam at the mouth?

I've talked to 30 ish people near my city's inner harbor, there is a VERY strong dislike for politicians. Many carry on political affiliations because it was their parent's party of choice, and i was the same way.

I agree, I've spoken with, corresponded with hundreds by now and a whopping percentage are in for something entirely new if it comes down to politics in the regular structure of a party system. Ultimately. I think they'll want their own party and it will be fairly broad spectrum if they get it. Of course it will be called 'left', 'socialist', 'anarchist' and 'crazy' by those who despise or even fear it. And they're definitely already having a go at jobless and anti-capitalist. Which looking at the actual intentions and economic beliefs of the folks involved, is nonsense.

The idea of life (not just the US) is "work hard, get ahead".
When people have been working hard, and are nowhere near "ahead", that's when things get messy and you get those above listed thoughts.
Using a spoon to dig a trench is not a productive use of time and resources. So is getting a master's degree in English/Women's Studies/Native American Literature/Masturbation/etc ( there are thousands awarded every year ) thinking that one is such a special snowflake that that one would be #winning the race to professorship.

That is what has been ingrained in people's heads (my generation's at least). Do well in high school, get in a good college, get a degree, get a good job.
I'm sorry, but was not it closer to do well in a high school, go to college to get a degree in a useful field that would allow one to get a job, get a job?

Let me tell you how real that concept of reward can be with large tech corporations for instance. I worked for a start-up in the 2nd half of the 90s that produced technology most of the people getting on the internet or connecting to the office from home or the road used (with one product, it was nearly universal for a while). Anyway, for a few years we kicked Cisco and Ascend's asses and we even built nearly all of Nortel's RA gear, under their brand.
   Along comes Intel Newtork Systems, with their totally shitty 'don't or barely get it' SOHO products. They buy us. They throw the BEST TAKEOVER PARTY I have ever been to and we're sitting in a conference room at the Colonade Hotel after a lobster and steak buffet and a man gets on stage and says;

"Hi, I'm Ron Whatever and I am Vice President of Technology Acquisition (it could have been whatever... it was something like that though).... And my fuction at Intel is to Acquire new Intellectual Property for the company. And I am here to tell you that Intel values people who have ideas. And we are prepared to reward you for it. If you get come up with an idea that results in a patent for Intel, you will be compensated in very short order in the amount of a $5,000 bonus. "
Now this caused dead silence. But all of a sudden, my Buddy Gil, who invented dial-up networking, says "Wow, now let me get this straight. I can develop a technology that changes the very way we all work while working for Intel and say, sit on the idea, and leave. Then get a patent on the idea, develop a product line and eventually get bought by a company like Intel for $60,000,000. OR I can tell you about it and you'll give me 5 grand right away. Am I right?" .
And the jackass from Intel gave him an enthusiastic yes not even getting Gil had just given the history of our company in a nutshell... and he gave back a really enthusiastic "YES!".
Gil got up and said, "Hey I think I made about 6 million in the stock conversion to Intel stock. So I'm gonna go to those shitheads at Coopers & Lybrand and cash it in. I've always wanted to race the Iditarod with my dogs... and I think they're about ready. Later".
As Gill left people got up and applauded.

I'm really not for slicing and dicing about something as trival as this. Others here are. Have fun with them.

When you are talking to someone who's even vaguely sane, the answer is yes.
This time, you just weren't that lucky[:D]

It still works: you just have to swap "good job" for "shitload of debt, ulcer, and maybe a nervous breakdown"...

With the probability of realizing you absolutely hate the job you're in at age 40.

And that's why him and people like Tony Li are the ones that make money time after time again, while those that kept sitting at the shrimp buffet, do not. Some trade a paycheck for 9-5 ( or 8am to 11pm - that's part is irrelevant ), others get to live on the edge but walk away with millions or hundreds millions.

Assuming you can actually find a job and keep it that long. That was more what I was driving at: there's shitloads of unemployed graduates, and whatever RAC says, it has fuck all to do with an increase in mickeymouse course. (I love how he's lumping in an English masters -which is about the lowest level of an English degree that'll do you any good- with masturbation and femconspiracylit, btw. Shows his values, or rather lack of them, in a nutshell, doesn't it?)
