Toppingfrmbottom -> Facebook seems to be sending out friend invites w/o my permission. (11/30/2011 4:14:05 AM)

I noticed a few ppl on my friends list I have no clue who they are and one of them has no clue who I am. And today I got an email saying Jane doe, obviously not real name I am keeping it anon, has accepted your friend invite, but I never sent her a fi.

What is going on? Has this ever happened 2 any of you?

it is propritory (sp?) so it takes the info of your email addys and sends requests or "suggestions" to umpteen folks you dont know. There IS a way to limit it, I hear. but havent yet figured it out///

The email could be phishing or a virus... is she added to your FB as a friend or just listed in the email?

I would contact admin there in either case.

If you don't know her and she doesn't know you then report it to FB... your account could have been hacked or invites misrouted... also see if somehow you have friends in common?

If you go to the person's page, it'll usually show you mutual friends in the upper right-hand corner.
It makes suggestions, too, which is kind of annoying...
I don't remember how I connfigured my security settings, but it's annoying how "totally open door inn the changing room" is the default setting...

I've given serious thought to closing mine down. Unfortunately it's become the only way to stay on top of of some of my activities.

It's a phishing virus. Simply delete and ignore. I get tons of those every single day.

FR

I dont have a FB account but I am always getting emails from FB saying that joe blow wants me to join FB and be his friend.. 98% of these people supposedly requesting this are people that responded to an internet ad i posted years ago and i never added them to my email's contact list.. and i somehow doubt they added me to theirs, they probably still have a copy of my email and FB is culling all email addys once it can access the other person's email/contact list.. I am very sure its not these people but fucking FB.. that is just so sleazy of FB,.. like they need to stoop that low and lie to get people to join??? What else is FB doing with everyones private info, i wonder... [>:]

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Facebook seems to be sending out friend invites w/o my permission. (11/30/2011 7:39:39 AM)

Tj444, I can honestly say that its not that. Several of my email addresses are in each others contacts, and only 2 are linked to FB, and neither one have ever sent invites out to my addys, or any of my other friends.

stellauk -> RE: Facebook seems to be sending out friend invites w/o my permission. (11/30/2011 9:55:31 AM)

At first I was sceptical about Facebook, then I got into it, but now I've gone off it to the point where I hardly use it.

Part of it is like when you use Windows XP and you start up with the updates (read compulsive downloading of whatever crap from the Web XP wants to shove onto your hard drive). Therefore for me having Facebook open on an XP system is a bit like sharing a house with a load of compulsive shopaholics.

Seems to me more recently that FB is becoming a standard for all that is intrusive and obnoxious about the Internet. On my smartphone it was close, but now on my Android FB has got control of my contacts, on the PC I'm routinely asked to friend former translation clients and people who sent me one off e-mails.

I admit I have trust issues, I value my privacy, I love being incognito, and I'm sure people don't really need to know that Stella coughed on an 87 bus in Trafalgar Square or is wandering round Balham High Street looking for a cashpoint. I know that even if I post something innocuous such as 'I fancy salad today' I end up with ads for lettuce, cheese, Heinz salad cream and perhaps a spam e-mail offering me organic tomatoes from Waitrose (about ten miles away from where I live).

Then there's the applications and games which chew up the memory and bring out the worst in people. Take one of those Zygna ones, Farmville where people are having a cow because they haven't got a cow, they get pissed at people for not returning gifts or throw an almighty wobbly because nobody will give them an imaginary piece of fence. It's Monopoly and Scrabble rolled into one and raised to the power of two.

I'm actually diversifying again and find CM together with Skype and Opera Unite much better (only nobody uses Opera Unite and I've been lazy when it comes to getting people onto Skype). I'm okay with FB working for others and admit it's recently improved when I changed my main system to Linux Mint, but it's not for me.

littlewonder -> RE: Facebook seems to be sending out friend invites w/o my permission. (11/30/2011 10:23:56 AM)

I like using FB to keep up on family news, to find out what's up with my daughter and talking to old friends and cousins I only get to see every couple of years. I have my settings set to private though so that the only people who can see me are people I invite.

I get stuff from friends and family on FB for the games but I just ignore those since I don't use FB to play games. For me FB is basically a replacement for the telephone since I don't really like talking on the phone. Instead we talk on FB.
