I find your behavior as that of a twit that isn't interested in a conversation -- so talk to another.  I afforded you civility and coutesy, and then you acted an ASS.  So again, communicate with someone else. [8|]

Yeah... I didn't think so.  Perfectly fine with people like you to LIE and allege a person doesn't care about "kids" or "poor kids".  No... that's not a stupid comment at all... nope, not for people like you.  Hypocrite. [8|]

It's simple... the ANSWERS GIVEN are based on the LEGALITY of the question.
Example:
Q:  "What are your views on people driving 100 mph without seatbelts?!!"
A:  "It's illegal... everyone has to drive the speedlimit"

Want a different answer?  Ask a question regarding something that isn't ILLEGAL.

This interpretation is quite incorrect in my view. It is a literal reading of the situation that ignores the underlying argument. It tries to sidestep the issues raised.

The key point here is not the LEGALITY of the situation, but the MORALITY of those laws. No one disputes that the laws of the land, as passed by relevant legislatures, are the laws of the land. That's a simple matter of fact.

The point here is the immorality, the discriminatory unequal effects of those laws.

Changing the nouns to demonstrate an underlying unity between discourses is a standard device in academic analysis, commonly used in disciplines such as discourse analysis and semiotics. In this instance, it clearly demonstrates the underlying imorality of discrimination and privileging one section of the community to the detriment of another. It demonstrates the underlying unity of hate and bigotry - they are similar phenomena that speak the same language with different areas of social application.

It's no surprise that apologists for the Right fail to understand such nuances. Some right wingers posting here (eg MSLA) defend laws that are immoral in their construction and unequal in the effect, in short they defend bigotry. Others claim that the Right has put its bigoted past behind it. It would be nice if this were true, but the MSLAs of this world tell us otherwise.

Bachmann's defence of immoral laws tells us that, even at the highest level, the Right has a long long way to go before it finally publicly and credibly buries its history of racism, bigotry and repression of sexual minorities
.

Show where I "defended" any "immoral" law, or have shown the "bigotry" you allege.  *Note:  This means you're to copy/paste my EXACT words that support your allegation -- not any convenient interpretation you have.

Good GAWD, evidently it really is impossible for the LEFT-TARDS to refrain from REPEATEDLY LYING -- showing the absolute weakness of their positions?!! [8|]

I don't think MSLA realizes that we elect politicians to shape public policy, whether that's maintaining the current law or enacting a new one.

I don't think you can READ... if you could, you wouldn't have made this FALSE statement (See Below)

ORIGINAL: imperatrixx

Or ask a politician who would vote for making gay marriage legal.

quote:

ORIGINAL: MasterSlaveLA

Sure... but it works the other way as well -- i.e., those who'd vote AGAINST it.

Well gee... here I am AGREEING with you, so why did you make such a BLATANTLY false statement that I don't "realize we elect politicians to shape public policy" -- especially since you and I JUST had this discussion?!!  Why lie about this?!! [8|]

BACHMANN: Remember every American citizen has the right to avail themselves to marriage but they have to follow what the laws are. And the laws are you marry a person of the opposite sex.

And the laws were that you could not marry a black person if you were white. Until a few brave souls stepped forward and started asking why... and the response then was.. because its not legal.

I realize Bachmann isnt a brave soul, bless her heart.

She should also recall a time when it would not have been legal for her to run for the Presidency as well. Too bad some people forget such things.

That's from YOUR perspective... those who believe as she does find her quite "brave" to stand up for what she believes.  Neither you, or I, or someone else may agree with her -- but she is "brave" to those who support traditional marriage.

I don't view her as a bad person... I just don't agree with her on certain issues.  To blunt, there isn't ONE politician out there that I agree with 100% of the time -- and I'd bet there's no politician YOU agee with on 100% of their views either.

tazzygirl -> RE: Michelle Bachmann Condemns Interracial Marriage (12/2/2011 12:30:54 AM)

I decided to take you off hide for this discussion. I hope I dont regret it.

What is so great about traditional marriage? We have had any traditions in this country that have been ruled unconstitutional over the years. Women not having the right to vote. Racial segregation. Discrimination of all kinds. Traditions are great, wonderful things... at a local or family level... not all traditions are so at a national level.

I just cant help but see her as a woman, standing there, running for the highest office in the land... and remember at one time she wasnt even allowed to vote, hold property or even a bank account She would have literally had no say in her life, men made all the decisions.

Women fought, bitched, moaned, complained and fought some more. Along with the help of many men, these women finally got the right to control their own lives. Her choice to not do so in her own life is a personal decision, one she is entitled to make.

Why cant gay couples make that decision for themselves? Why must they be relegated to second hand citizens in the issue of marriage?

Antebellum social rules and laws considered enslaved people morally and legally unfit to marry. They were incapacitated from entering into civil contracts, of which marriage was one, and were regarded as lacking the moral fiber necessary to respect and honor the sanctity of the marital vows.

There was a time when black people could not legally marry each other. How is this different?

That's where you can find the original interview. I replaced a couple key words in order to make an artful point.

Not at all. She is a liberal and therefore was just making a joke. Now if you had done it, it would have been a lie and people would then follow you around from thread to thread pointing out that you lied. See the difference?

Sanity -> RE: Michelle Bachmann Condemns Interracial Marriage (12/2/2011 5:25:32 AM)

Ah, I see - she was using Newspeak. A lie isnt a lie of its the new truth...

Politicians like Obama are heavily into "satire" then, arent they - especially during election season.  [:D]

Go look up "lie" in the dictionary, then go look up "satire," then take the evening to think about the difference. Have some tea, too; it helps one focus.

I certainly hope you're not the type that shouts "you lie!" at every SNL skit featuring a political figure.

Satire is nothing more than lying, I should know.
