I decided to take you off hide for this discussion. I hope I dont regret it. What is so great about traditional marriage? We have had any traditions in this country that have been ruled unconstitutional over the years. Women not having the right to vote. Racial segregation. Discrimination of all kinds. Traditions are great, wonderful things... at a local or family level... not all traditions are so at a national level. I just cant help but see her as a woman, standing there, running for the highest office in the land... and remember at one time she wasnt even allowed to vote, hold property or even a bank account She would have literally had no say in her life, men made all the decisions. Women fought, bitched, moaned, complained and fought some more. Along with the help of many men, these women finally got the right to control their own lives. Her choice to not do so in her own life is a personal decision, one she is entitled to make. Why cant gay couples make that decision for themselves? Why must they be relegated to second hand citizens in the issue of marriage? Antebellum social rules and laws considered enslaved people morally and legally unfit to marry. They were incapacitated from entering into civil contracts, of which marriage was one, and were regarded as lacking the moral fiber necessary to respect and honor the sanctity of the marital vows. There was a time when black people could not legally marry each other. How is this different?
