Bachmann's got more than a few screws loose.  I keep wondering about conservatives like her, purportedly "small government", who keep wanting the government in our bodies & bedrooms and all people in the land to conform to their particular religious beliefs.  After all, that wouldn't be any better than the demon-worshiping, amoral, heathen  humanists!

Surely civilizations will fall because because less than 3% of the population maybe, just maybe, want to get married like other folks.  Imagine, abominations having the nerve to imitate straights!! You know, the ones that get divorced, cheat on their spouses, etc. etc.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-501363_162-57336029/after-uproar-ky-church-looks-at-interracial-ban/

I wonder if this is a coincidence but.......

"After uproar, Ky. church revisits interracial ban"

When Stella Harville brought her black boyfriend to her family's all-white church in rural Kentucky, she thought nothing of it. She and Ticha Chikuni worshipped there whenever they were in town, and he even sang before the congregation during one service.

Then in August, a member of Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church told Harville's father that Chikuni couldn't sing there anymore. And last Sunday, in a moment that seems from another time, church members voted 9-6 to bar mixed-race couples from joining the congregation.

The policy has drawn a firestorm of criticism in just a few days and sent church leaders scrambling to overturn it, perhaps as early as Sunday. The executive secretary of the church's national organization said he has been inundated with angry phone calls, and had an inch-high stack of emails printed out on his desk.

"We are not a group of racist people," said Keith Burden of the National Association of Free Will Baptists. "We have been labeled that obviously because of the actions of nine people."

Yeah it 9 peoples fault that you are labeled a racist. Its not your fault you didnt stand up against or do something about it. Its not like they can leave the church and start thinking for themselves. No that would be immoral like those Atheist. Besides I m betting those 9 people who voted have God on their side so it doesnt matter if they are labeled a racist, God is with them. Only Atheist are the immoral ones because they do not believe in a higher power and therefore have no morals. Christians on the other hand believe on God and thus have morals their side so it doesnt matter that they voted to keep out a black man. At least it works in church, it didnt quite work for public office because of all those immoral Atheist.

Does anybody really care what the brainless twat condemns or not? I think she'd better sort out her own home... She's so out of the running, she can condemn whatever she likes, nobody is going to give a toss, apart from some idiots, but I have most of them on ignore anyway!

If it was just a matter of what this particular "brainless twat" says, then I would be tempted to agree with you. Sadly the silence from large sections of the Right, who tolerate and refuse to condemn remarks like Bachmann's make it a far bigger issue.

There are many people on the Right who genuinely loathe racism, repression of sexual minorities and hate. Some speak out against the hate-baiting of their Right wing colleagues. Many more remain silent. Is the reason they remain silent that they understand the Right needs to cultivate the racist vote in order to gain office?

Can we really trust those who are prepared to compromise their opposition to hate for reasons of political expediency? The Right has a long history of promoting racism and attacks on sexual minorities. Until the Right unites to condemn loudly and unequivocally, the racists and hate-mongers in its midst, we're perfectly entitled to examine its credentials, and question its sincerity. This is a serious issue in all Western societies IMHO.

What is so great about traditional marriage?

Traditions are great, wonderful things... at a local or family level... not all traditions are so at a national level.

Living in California, where this has been on/off the ballot several times, I understand where BOTH sides are coming from.  On one hand, there's the issue of basic equal rights, where on the other side, it's actually not so much about "rights", per se (as many who oppose "Gay Marriage" do NOT oppose "Civil Unions"), or "tradition", but about the religious element.

So to answer your question, it's not about "tradition" for many, but "holy matrimony" -- i.e., thinking is: "gay marriage" is a "sin", and therefore a violation of "holy matrimony".  That's the issue many who oppose "gay marriage" (while still supporting "Civil Unions"), have with this.  So it's not really about "tradition", but about "holy matrimony" (religion).

At least that's what I've gotten out of the MANY debates that have taken place here in California on this issue?!!

JANE SCHMIDT: One of my main concerns is government support for the interracial community. So my question is what would you do to support the interracial community.
BACHMANN: Well, No. 1, all of us as Americans have the same rights. The same civil rights. And so that's really what government's role is, to protect our civil rights. There shouldn't be any special rights or special set of criteria based upon people's preferences. We all have the same civil rights.

JANE SCHMIDT: Then, why can't interracial couples get married?

BACHMANN: They can get married, but they abide by the same law as everyone else. They can marry a white person if they’re a white person. Or they can marry a black person if they're a black person.

JANE SCHMIDT: Why can't a white person marry a black person?

BACHMANN: Because that's not the law of the land.

JANE SCHMIDT: So same-race couples have a privilege.

BACHMANN: No, they have the same opportunity under the law. There is no right to interracial marriage.

JANE SCHMIDT: So you won't support the interracial community?

BACHMANN: No, I said that there are no special rights for people based upon your race. There's no special rights based upon what race you are. You're an American citizen first and foremost and that's it.

ELLA NEWELL, a junior at Waverly High School: Wouldn't same-race couples, if they were given a privilege then, that interracial couples aren't, like given that privilege to get married, but same-race couples are given a privilege to get married?

BACHMANN: Remember every American citizen has the right to avail themselves to marriage but they have to follow what the laws are. And the laws are you marry a person of the same race.

Interestingly, while I'm not a fan of Bachmann (although, she is way the fuck over the top hot)...every fact check (Snopes, etc.) can't find this....ergo....I call bullshit on the facts (and even the quotes) here.

personal attack? how? as I said, you have NO clue what Aynne and I were discussing, and you JUST proved it.
SO you are attacking for nothing, nothing to do with the topic and nothing to do with you, and your fragile little ego.

Your over dramatisation of everything in your last sentence screams a drama queen who has no clue what big words actually mean.
I am more than capable of ripping you a new spine, asshole and set of balls, however I dont simply because I enjoy getting you so excitable and out of control you pee all over yourself. like now. Perfect example, poor control system, blame obfuscate and squeal.
screaming to the heavens? I think you have me mixed up with someone else. put up or shut up.

Btw you ran away from the point, and the topic, congrats, added a few straw men, fem hominems and adhominems, Logical fallacy, circular logic and bullshit overload, its been an exhausting day for you.

well seeing as your posts and your join date are under your avatar, the "obsession" is more just being observant, and your bans were like a calm fragrant breeze after a tornado of shit and stank.
when you can discuss anything without using blanket generalisations you might have some room to be taken more seriously than a malformed rhoid

Some more republican homophobic offerings.....

"Janice Daniels is not yet a month into her new position as mayor of Troy, and she is already causing controversy after a status update slamming gay marriage on what appears to be her personal Facebook page went viral Friday afternoon.

The June 25 status update reads: "I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there." The post was tucked among other posts and photos about Daniels' mayoral campaign, as well as personal photos and status updates.

Oakland County Commissioner Craig Covey posted a comment on his own Facebook page: "No mayor, of any city, particularly one as large and diverse as Troy, should ever use vulgar slurs to insult an entire community. She needs to apologize to the entire region for this nasty posting."
