Depends on whether you think throttling back the cold war, patching things up with China, pulling the plug on the absurd amounts of money that had been thrown at NASA since the turn of the '60s, getting you out of Vietnam and the like are more important than arranging a burglary, I suppose. I tell you what though: if criminal allegations are a sticking point, then nobody who's followed is any better than Nixon, are they?

No, I meant NASA. Nixon shut down the Apollo programme, remember? He's the main reason NASA is currently a teensy bit less of a drain on federal resources than it was back in the '60s.

As far as the rest of your nonsense I'll address one issue because I'm getting bored. Nixon tried to get us out of Vietnam but only after he escalated the war there. Ever heard of those B-52's bombing Cambodia? And he was not the reason we got out of there, it happened under Ford when Saigon was taken by the North Vietnamese and we left in disgrace being evacuated by helicopters.

Nixon is usually remembered as an odious little man and the only President who resigned to avoid criminal charges. Rapprochement with China will be his enduring legacy, and probably the greatest achievement of Nixon's administration. Most of the credit for that should go to Nixon's Dr Strangelove, the war criminal Kissinger, the self-proclaimed master of geopolitik. That aside, I can't see that the Nixon era will be seen as one of the USA'S greatest eras, nor Nixon as a memorable President by any standard. The country was deeply divided by, and the Nation ultimately humiliated by the war in Vietnam. Nixon probably did more to discredit the office of President than any other 20th century President.
