I prefer oldie romantic music like Andy WIlliams and Johnny Mathis but Hubby prefers new age, so of course that's what we have on once the video is turned off.

My favorite scene music is Robert Miles : Dreamland and the Soundtrack from Swordfish (Paul Oakenfold)

I prefer music with a good rhythm for whips and flogging, with very few vocals.

I agree with using music with little vocals. I often use Merzbow which is a Japanese artist who creates white noise, he has actually creating some dedicated cd's for friend who are in the scene called music for bondage performance. I find this music works to help a sub relax and stop thinking when induldging in a little s and m. I do however find it helps my sub reach subspace a little quicker.

My prefrence is Inigma... or about any Celtic type music... I tend to drift in the music anyway, and it helps me relax before and during a heavy scene.
Please be well and safe!!

I agree with you on that. Vocals are loaded with meaning and often times distract.

However, there are some songs that have very phenomenal vocals that will enhance a particular dynamic, but in my opinion, they are rare.

As for the good rythms, I like slow deep heavy, swarming, crawling, rythms... à la Trent Reznor.

I also enjoy ethereal type music for more intricate play.

I prefer something more along the lines of industrial music or techno: Lords of Acid, Ministry- something loud & energetic!

Use Enigma or Enya and I'm sound asleep!

Depending on the activity at the time it can range from the energetic:

- Sisters of Mercy
- Ministry
- Nine Inch Nails
- Concussion Ensemble
- Rage Against The Machine

to the more placid and ethereal:

- Tangerine Dream
- Lorena McKennitt
- Dead Can Dance
- Baroque classical (Vivaldi is a personal favorite)
- Deep Forest
- Rachel's
- Ray Lynch

to the plain eclectic:

- The Art Of Noise
- Blue Man Group

Now we're moving a bit closer to my normal styles. haha...I have to say that for a really, fast, heart pumping background nothing has ever beat Venetian Snares for me personally. Noisex, Winterkalte, Add N to X, Mouse on Mars, Pi soundtrack all for the ambient backgrounds. Often times vocals add to the scene though imo if they fit the right mood. A bit of Pig, Velvet Acid Christ, Hocico, Cenobita, Wumpscut, Zeromancer, Project Pitchfork, Beborn Beton and the ilk all tend to have rather fitting lyrics.

Then again I've also worked to Frank Sinatra, Screamin Jay, or Leadbelly...so it really depends on the emotion you're trying to convey.

For pure sensuality, Portishead...hands down.

I find most any type of music interferes for me. I tend to actually listen to it. The last time I tried was some very wonderful jazz that my sub had on when I came to visit him. We were into playing.. he's tied up, on his way to headspace and here I am going.. This is great music, who is it by. We ended up in a musical discussion. It was pleasant time together, but it wasn't what I'd planned. The only thing I've been able to not drift off myself with is classical

I think I'm with BeachMistress on this one. There's something about total quiet. If I'm blindfolded I can hear Master coming near me. He can hear me gasp with each touch.
We make our own music.
