Meh....it`ll go up a little...whatever.

Probably the best and most direct way to fuck with their fundi-rightwing-dictator like leaders is to cut off oil money.

tazzygirl -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 11:51:29 AM)

Thats what the EU is considering.

Economic blockade didn't work quite well with Cuba. It would provoke povetry, but would make reforms harder and would not prevent the nuclear program (see North Korea about miserable countries developing nukes).

Don't you have the two or three people who aren't on ignore to patronise in your fawning and grovelling agnosticism thread, dear?

Id just like to say a big thanks to Delta for saving me my fingers:)

BanthaSamantha -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 1:43:04 PM)

One of the interesting, and ironic, things about Iran deals with its capaticy to refine oil.

While Iran has very plentiful oil reserves, it still imports the vast majority of its refined oil products (gas, jet fuel, etc.) This is because Iran has virtually no domestic oil refining capacity. Preventing refined oil products from being imported into Iran would do a lot of damage to their economy and infrastructure.

Kana -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 1:46:54 PM)

Cuz those embargoes worked so well with Iraq...

Owner59 -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 3:17:14 PM)

Actually, they worked great.

The real reason bush lied us into invading the place was b/c the embargoes/sanctions were about to end.

That,was the game changer.

Lucylastic -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 3:27:23 PM)

Ive just had a thunk...... do all the oil speculators work for mrdinnerjacket?

Those kinds of embargoes tend to do more damage to the general populace than they do in encouraging the leadership of any country to change their ways.

FR

"Probably the best and most direct way to fuck with their fundi-rightwing-dictator like leaders is to cut off oil money."

Yes, we must control all countries. Israel can have nukes and Iran can't. Gotcha, lemme write that down.

"Thats what the EU is considering. "

Have we heard from Russia and China yet ? The EU ain't shit in that arena.

"Economic blockade didn't work quite well with Cuba."

People don't like to hear that. Please lie to make them happy.

"Don't you have the two or three people who aren't on ignore to patronise in your fawning and grovelling agnosticism thread, dear?"

Go ahead asshole, get the thread locked.

"Im one of them... lol... i find him posting here hilarious."

If that makes any sense and I am stupid, enlighten me.

"Id just like to say a big thanks to Delta for saving me my fingers:) "

Also in need of clarification.

"While Iran has very plentiful oil reserves, it still imports the vast majority of its refined oil products (gas, jet fuel, etc.)"

They can build many refineries with the help of Russia.

"Cuz those embargoes worked so well with Iraq..."

Like second amendment advocates telling how gun confiscatiion preceded mass executions, which may be true, we have another thing here. These sanctions are only there to weaken the country and cause strife to lower support for their government before we attack them.

I want to know who the fuck Iran attacked ? The US is the ONLY country that has ever used a nuclear weapon in a war. Who should be disarmed here ? Ask smart people in a bunch of countries and you will get different answers, i.e. they don't all say Iran or North Korea like your western Master tell you to recite. I am teling you that we are not the only country in this fucking game, and we ain't doing people many favors lately, not enough anyway, to make them go against their better judgement.

Our alliance HAS CAUSED financial disaster across the globe and people fucking know it. Countries with competent leaders know it. They are not on our side. We got the UK and Israel, don't count on ANYONE else. Oh yeah we got a coalition, we send a million troops and they send a hundred. Some fucking coalition.

This whole thing exudes a sense of overconfidence.

What's more when the media tells you that the leaders of other countries who don't just bow down to the empire are totally nuts, crazy or stupid, THEY ARE LYING. Get it ?

Yeah, Ok.
I give you this-I quote the thesis:
" In the meantime, sanctions have caused Iraq's poor to suffer immeasurably and Iraq's ecology to suffer deleteriously. Furthermore, sanctions have not forced Saddam Hussein to change his sanctioned actions: He continues to drain the southern marshes, conducts chemical warfare on Iraqis, continues to threaten the safety of Kurds and Shiites, and continues to threaten the territorial autonomy of his neighbors. Rather than loosening his control over Iraq, sanctions have accomplished just the opposite, that is, Saddam Hussein's grip on power has actually tightened. (In fact, Saddam Hussein may be more powerful today than he was prior to the sanctions.) In the case of Iraq, sanctions have seemed to fail miserably. It is within the discourse of this case study that the reasons for the failure of those sanctions will be examined. "
http://www1.american.edu/ted/iraqsanc.htm
(Note that Kana cites scholastic sources and not wing nut shit)

Not to mention that the sanctions had zero effect on opening up Iraq to inspectors, made Saddam more, rather than less defiant, and oh yeah, who can forget the wonderful UN Oil scandal:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil-for-Food_Programme
(then gets lazy and cites Wiki-there's lots of stuff out there on this. Its pretty well verified and unassailable)

The one thing the sanctions did do well is the one thing they weren't supposed to do-make the Iraqi people suffer.

If that's succeeding, I don't wanna see what you call a failure.

Did you even look at the sources for the dissertation? Or the main sponsor page?
And you realize that ad hominem is the weakweakweak sauce, right?

Owner59 -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/4/2011 5:20:33 PM)

The inspectors did their job just fine. There was no WMD and I couldn`t care less about how sad felt.He was made impotent.

None of your weasel words and bullshiting justifies putting our GIs at risk like they were.

It wasn`t the weapons inspectors that saddam managed to fool,it was folks like yourself.
