The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) adopted medical experts' recommendation that newly issued insurance plans cover birth control without copays. Women will feel the magnitude of this decision every time they go to the pharmacy counter and pick up their birth control without paying a copay.

This is such a tremendous leap forward. But a massive campaign to allow religious employers to opt out of the new requirement would mean that women who work for a religious institution, like a religious hospital or university, are at risk of not being included under this new policy.

It's up to us to stand up for all women who use birth control. Send a message to the White House now to say that all women should have access to contraceptive coverage, regardless of their employer.

A compiled petition with your [optional] individual comment will be presented to President Obama.

No. If I have to pay out-of-pocket for my own condoms, they should have to buy their own pills or whatever they choose to use.

When they develop a pill that can be used like a condom, taken only when needed, then I would agree.

You can often get condoms for free at Planned Parenthood.

Your profile is Not Found, otherwise I would have provided a list for your location. My state has multiple options for free condoms:

"No cost"? "Free"? Does it mean that developing, manufacturing and distribution of these things costs nothing, or rather that someone else is forced to pay the bill?

Would you rather pass out a few condoms or support and educate the spawn that results from their nonavalibility?

Guess what? Poor people are gonna fuck.. The choice of the taxpayers is to support birth control or the 9 months later result.

As a taxpayer, I'd a hell of a lot rather buy condoms and BC pills.

I'll be the differing voice here. I'm ok with religious organizations opting out of this plan. It's against their morals and values and therefore should not be forced to go against their morals and values.

While I'm all for birth control I wouldn't want someone forcing me to go against my religious beliefs.

If you work for a religious organization you sign an agreement stating you will work for them and follow their rules so if you go against those rules you get fired. Why would you work for a religious organization if you didn't believe in their morals and values? I think it would make for a very uncomfortable workplace personally.

I had the opportunity to work for a baptist organization but when I read their clauses I realized I didn't believe in all of them so I decided not to take the job. I didn't feel it was morally right to do so and knew I couldn't live up to their beliefs.

You might think about the message behind the words and not the words themselves. Or is thinking too difficult for you?

Neither.

You have to spell out false dichotomies for HW. And simple concepts like personal responsbility.

The Pill was developed 50 years ago

How about these for a compromise?
1. $9, as is already available at Wal-Mart and Target in some states.
2. Sliding scale - if you have already met eligibility for any type of government assistance, birth control is free, then up to $9 through your employee insurance benefits.

If you can live with the safety level offered by generic products manufactured in Asia and based on expired patents, then I can agree on the following: no import taxes on them, make them Walmart-cheap!
But if you would rather like FDA regulations to kick in, or use newer drugs (like FSH antagonists that are currently studied), then somebody has to foot the bill.

personal responsibility.. yeah, but it takes two to tango.. more men need to take their personal responsibility seriously.. kwim? there are still plenty of guys that look for one night stands with unprotected sex.. and they usually arent the young guys...

[Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen] Sebelius said women have suffered discrimination by insurance companies that considered ‘Viagra an essential medication and birth control a lifestyle choice.’”

Sebelius has been a key player in the recent decision by the Obama administration to make it easier for women to afford birth control. The new requirement would be implemented through the Affordable Care Act. Sebelius asked that birth control be included in a list of preventative care services to be covered by insurance companies — thereby requiring that birth control be covered without co-payments. For many women, steep co-pays have deterred them from purchasing family planning services.
