How bad is it? Chopped, a cooking competition show, had school cooks on last week. These women spoke about packing back packs for the kids with food for the weekends because, without it, those kids would not eat until monday.

That may be statically correct but in reality the numbers are much larger.
Every year an organization I am member of does “toys for tots” a sister organization
I am member of does holiday season food for handicapped, disabled and indigent children’s
families.
This year, this organization will reach over 2000 families in Florida and we fell short of
our goal by at least 1000 families. These same families send their children to bed hungry
every day all year long.

When this Nation budgets to spends millions in foreign aid they better start looking within.

same here. well, there is a large "occupy" presence closer to me geographically which i actually support. have not been able to participate in the protests as often as i would like because of my schedule, but just dropped off some supplies for them again last weekend.

i wrote a big check to the democrats back when i was younger and naive enough to buy into the "anyone but bush" mindset. still get obsequious, cloying calls/invitations/mailings from them begging for money and when i bother to glance at any of the material it saddens and amuses me at the same time to see how the "hey at least we're a little better than the republicans still!" mindset has calcified into a long-term strategy.

we took down a 50 lb bag of potatoes and several rolls of foil as well as some sleeping bags just before they were evicted, every little helps, altho they have managed to find indoor cooking facilities now, the move is to get inside, get permission to use gov donated buildings to non profits here ... its slow but sure:)

Personally, and YMMV but right now, keeping OUT the right is important for me, the left is horrendously bad, but the right is worse for those in need. Not that I get to vote in the US, but I wouldnt vote for a tory on principal in canada or teh UK ever.
But I dislike 99.99% of politicians on principle anyway

This makes no sense. How can it be correct but the number are much larger? I dont even buy the 1 in 4. With food stamp income guidelines up to roughly $15000 plus $5000 per additional person (at least in CA) why is anyone going hungry much less 1 in 4.
