What happens when your cell dies because you forgot to charge it?

What happens when you have an emergency and cannot get a signal?

Where I live the reception is poor, I have to leave my phone plugged in almost all the time, even when it is fully charged, to get a signal.

A landline is far more reliable.

Status: offline 		I'm not certain if T Mobile offers this option or not. One way I qualified was because I was listed geographically
as being in their pocket of poor reception. Another requirement is that you will need high speed internet.
There seems to be many universal mini tower boosters available on the market these days, so if T Mobile
wont offer assistance, there are other options available.

Status: offline 		We have both, however, if I remember correctly, there is a huge disparity in pricing between Germany and the US.


We just upgraded and we pay 50 Euro for all of the following:
HD TV with about 200 programs, hard drive recorder included,
unlimited internet flat with 64 Mbit/s,
landline phone with 3 lines and a flat (limitless) for all (regardless of provider) landline calls in Germany and calls into the mobile net of our provider, other nets for a cheap price (you can upgrade to world wide flat for another 10 Euro),
some technical thingy or other that the Guy explained to me was good to have (a new FRITZ box, I think),
mobile phone for all 5 household members with a flat (also limitless) in the mobile as well as landline net of our provider and cheap rates for other calls.

Given that packages, I never even thought about disconnecting one. Most likely I would not even safe money, as I had to get to individual services instead of the package deal.

Status: offline 		We have both. No dropped calls with the landline and the sound is much clearer. We watch some grand daughters here and would not be without a landline for 911 emergency calls if ever we had to call.

Status: offline 		I've spent a lot of time in my life living without any phone at all. Once, when I was living out in the middle of no where, two small children and a car that often was unreliable.... when my ex-husband didn't have it. We survived.

The thought that I might be in a place where my cell doesn't have service is not a concern.

You plug it in. I can still talk on my phone while it's charging. I just have to stay wherever the cord will let me go. It doesn't take long at all for my phone to charge. If it dies while I'm away then it's not that big a deal to me. I don't have a lot of people trying to call me and the calls I make are rarely ever that important. It's just me calling people to bullshit and waste time for awhile.

I try my best to remember to make sure it's charged before I leave the house though only because Master gets mad at me when he tries to call and my phone is dead lol.

As for emergencies...well I've not yet ever had that happen. My life is rather dull. If there was an emergency though I would probably yell for help like in the good ole days or if I could I'd run to a  neighbor, local store, etc....and ask them to call 911, basically the same thing we used to do before we all had cell phones and our family didn't have a phone because we couldn't afford one.

Status: offline 		I live in Oakland County's Neighborhood of Power Failures. We will always have a landline for that reason alone. Plus there's a fax attached to one of them, and the computer DSL line.

Status: offline 		I like to have both. I've lived through a nearly month long weather related power outage
trust me you want all the options available.
We had a landline and gas for heat, no
electricity, no water and sheets of ice
kept us virtually housebound.
I love my cell but coverage can be patchy
and the networks screw up sometimes
when a lot of people are on without a
disaster I can only imagine how quick and
long they'd go down in a major disaster.
Towers are vulnerable to earthquakes,
tornados, hurricanes, ice storms.
Where I live all those things are
possible, two of those things are
frequent.

Status: offline 		I am stuck in the 70's I guess.  All I have is a landline.  I had a cell for about a year, and it just irritated the hell out of me.  If I am not home, I am doing something that I do not want to be interrupted during.

Lat May, I was waiting for my mother at the airport and her cell wasn't working. I called my sister, who said she thought Mom no longer used it. Sure enough, the battery had died and Mom decided it wasn't worth it to replace it. Despite this, she did manage to find me at the airport.

Status: offline 		It just always works out, like it did before cellphones.  I even, to the chagrin of my friends, actually get directions and remember them, rather than use one of those talking boxes-lol.

I have thought about getting a throwaway cell, just to have in the truck, in case of emergency.  I may give in to that someday.

Status: offline 		Yeah, somehow we did get by without cell phones. :p it can be handy to have a shortcut, but shortcuts aren't necessities. I've only recently gone back to having one; got one on my birthday last year. Sometimes I did miss people, or I couldn't just text and find them, but things managed to work out...

Seriously though.. I need two landlines, one for FAX, one for voice, a pager (they still exist!), and a cell phone. But I'm an IT guy and need to stay in constant contact with my company. For most people, I'd say go cell only given the state of the economy.

Status: offline 		I've had a cell phone for a long time.  Back when mobile was analog, the gear cost a couple thousand and air time cost 50 cents a minute.  I had the old Motorola car phone and later I got a mobile fax in a brief case. 800-KALS-CAR        800-KALS-FAX. 

I evolved through the SatPhones and digital phones.  I used them to their full extent to save time.  From GPS, email and other apps to simply calling restaurants in advance so dinner was waiting on the table when I arrived.  My time was precious and I was very busy. 

On March 16th, 2005, I changed my lifestyle and now the quality, not the speed of my life comes first.  I destroyed my cell phone and cut the electronic leash.  I do not plan to own a cell phone again.
