ORIGINAL: JstAnotherSub I am stuck in the 70's I guess. All I have is a landline. I had a cell for about a year, and it just irritated the hell out of me. If I am not home, I am doing something that I do not want to be interrupted during. QFT. BUT! An accident driving across country finally made me go to local 7-11 type store and buy a cell phone. Guess what?!?!? You can't get it turned on for 24 hours AFTER you submit your "I'm not a terrorist info." (Remeber terriorists buying like 30 or 40 phones at Mall of America and fading into distance....) Fortunately, I had a lap-top with me, and was able to do the form on-line from a friendly McDonald's - seems they ALL have wi-fi nowadays. Still took 24 hours to get a signal.... Emergency? Buy a phone ahead of your emergency.... HUH? Hate, hate, hate texting - but at 5 cents a message, well, okay. I'd MUCH rather pay for voice - I forget what my charge is. As above, when I'm NOT home, I don't want to be contacted. On the other hand, meeting people is certainly made easier. Just the other day, I was parked in back of restaurant, the guy I was to meet was in front. I'm glad we didn't start walking around building in same direction. LOL! OTOH, how did our parents "find" each other? Land-line for me - FAX and DSL. Cell phone has this neat game on it...... LOL! And, when I'm selling spices for a friend, I can get info for customers immediately, so that's nice..... "Where does your cinnamon come from?" Madagascar. OTOH, I love it when I'm speaking on land line and other party gets dropped. "Copper to copper," I say. LOL!
