Peter King says the obligatory "I'd vote for him over Obama", and then blasts him.

Good to see pols overcoming party loyalty to do what's best for the people.  There was too little of that under Bush.

A basset hound would be better for the people than Obama.

Does that mean you are planning to run?

Putting aside the whole "Wow, Peter King the provider of material support to terrorists and complicit in the murder of an American citizen in London isn't sitting in prison for the rest of his life?" aspect of this, there's some insight to be gained.

Newt's problem is that he NEEDS the teabagger's support for primary wins.

Newt's problem is -- as the poster child for "Washington Insider" he's NEVER going to get the teabagger's support. Without the teabaggers destroying their own self-identity as being against "Washington Insiders"....

"I'd rather have steady," said Rep. Steve LaTourette of Ohio, who just this week made it known that he was backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney instead of the resurgent Gingrich, the man who led the 1994 "revolution" in which LaTourette was first elected.

Personally, LaTourette said, he has a "hangover" from the days of Gingrich's speakership, when "everything always seemed to be on fire."

Ouch!

Speaking of Newt... I read a Bozell column about him on Newsbusters that I thought was timely, considering all the lies that the far left has been drudging up about his supposedly disgraceful history as House Speaker

On fire? [:D] The last Speaker who came anywhere near a balanced budget was Newt Gingrich

And as Mnot is constantly reminding us, budgets originate in the House

"The Brain".....

Karl Rove:

"In the short run, Mr. Gingrich must temper runaway expectations. For example, his lead in the RealClearPolitics average in Iowa is 12 points. But what happens on Jan. 3 if he doesn't win Iowa, or comes in first with a smaller margin than people expect?

That could happen in part because Mr. Gingrich has little or no campaign organization in Iowa and most other states. He didn't file a complete slate of New Hampshire delegates and alternates. He is the only candidate who didn't qualify for the Missouri primary, and on Wednesday he failed to present enough signatures to get on the ballot in Ohio. Redistricting squabbles may lead the legislature to move the primary to a later date and re-open filing, but it's still embarrassing to be so poorly organized

For Mr. Romney right now, seas are choppy. But virtually everyone who has won in an open race for a presidential nomination in either party has endured far more than what Mr. Romney has to date.

On this score, Mr. Gingrich has proven his resilience many times over. Ironically, his test may not be whether he can overcome adversity but whether he can handle success. When a man of his self-confidence begins to feel on top of the world, bad things often happen."

Taking this statement at face value - then who should the Tea Party support?  Just why is it that they're not supporting Ron Paul, who seems closest in ideology to them, and seems to have the fewest skeletons?

Paul's just about due for his turn as the popular-GOP-candidate-that's-not-Romney.

I must have imagined the House ethics committee fining him 300k for ethics violations.
Guess not

He was also the last speaker to lobby for fannie may.

Win some lose some.

mnottertail -> RE: Gingrich takes heat - from Republicans. (12/8/2011 8:49:35 AM)

The same Gingrich who sat as speaker of the House nearly 20 years ago as Congress passed bill after bill benefitting corporate CEO's, at the expense of American workers whose manufacturing jobs were shipped overseas.

And of course once he was tossed out as speaker of the house the budget surplus nearly doubled.

His leadership was budget deficit from 1994-1997 and surplus 1998-1999 but overall his leadership added more debt to the United States.

However the bulk of the surplus was created by Clintons pushing through a tax bill on the rich.

No ...not that newt.

There`s a bunch of newts out there so you must be talking about one of the others.

Lucylastic -> RE: Gingrich takes heat - from Republicans. (12/8/2011 8:58:28 AM)

What makes anyone think that saying Gingrich was the last speaker to have a balanced budget is a smart thing to harp on about??
why on earth would you vote in someone who last did something"decent," how many years ago???
And THEN went on to fannie and freddie?
ya,
thats realistic good voting
NOT

So was Clinton, of course, but that doesn't shut you up blathering about rape allegations and impeachment, does it?

Owner59 -> RE: Gingrich takes heat - from Republicans. (12/8/2011 9:51:03 AM)

Republicans are running out of time to play eeny, meeny, miny, Mitt. With less than four weeks until the Iowa caucuses, GOP voters face a fundamental choice: Go with the candidate who appeals to their heads -- or the one who appeals to their hearts.

"eeny, meeny, miny, Mitt."[:D]

The ways newty whored himself out were designed to make the most him money possible. He became a millionaire selling his connections. There was not one thing he didn`t sell or sell out on or sell down the river.

He layed it into the grinder and pushed as hard as possible and in any direction that would produce for himself the most yield possible.

He hasn`t had his month yet.By about the time the Iowa votes are counted, folks will be reminded not about newt 20 years ago but about newt 3 years ago.

Between the two frontrunners,I`d prefer to run against newty.Maybe the cons won`t disappoint us?

mnottertail -> RE: Gingrich takes heat - from Republicans. (12/8/2011 10:28:45 AM)

well, since as I pointed out, after he was tossed as speaker of the house, the surplus doubled (this would indicate even to an untrained mind that someone else was speaker of the house) and so in any event he was not the last, and that the entire premise forwarded is of course, as always, fanciful asswipe, not grounded in any factual reality.

popeye1250 -> RE: Gingrich takes heat - from Republicans. (12/8/2011 10:32:02 AM)

If I were a republican I sure wouldn't vote for him!
He had a lot to do with pushing that "Nafta" down The People's throats!
