ORIGINAL: rabiah My question is simple--after a severe spanking on my bare bottom with a paddle, is there a clear danger of the bruises eventually turning to blood clots with the danger of them becoming fatal embolisms? Hi rabiah I'm going to read a little between the lines here... So embolisms--pulmonary, venous, brain etc. (any place on the body where you have vascular structure, you run a risk for embolism--for you non-medical folks, let's call it a "clot" to keep it simple--a clot in your blood vessels that blocks a vessel in your lungs, heart, brain etc. resulting from plaque in your "pipes") Typically, engaging in paddling should not cause any healthy adult to have an embolism. That said....You didn't really give much to go on here, but if you bruise heavily because you are also taking blood thinners, there's a good chance you are more at risk of an embolism, but it's not due to paddling, it's due to the condition you may have such as atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries...which causes blood clots and embolisms when pieces of the plaque break off into the blood and clog up an artery in the brain, heart, lungs, etc. Bruising is blood that has "escaped" from outside the vessels, and is now trapped under the surface of the skin--so the bruise you see from paddling cannot cause an embolism--that occurs inside the vessels. So a bruise cannot form a clot and then make its way back into the veins and back to the heart, which I think was your question. But.... if you normally have health conditions pertaining to circulation, clots, arrhythmia, etc. Find a kink-friendly doctor before engaging in heavy play....just as you should before starting an exercise regiment or even rigorous sexual activity.
