All of my sibs were given names that spelled my dad's given name (like B.O.B.)! To even things up, all the pets' names started with S to match my Mom's name!!

My middle name is my mother's maiden name.  I go by it sometimes.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 9:50:55 AM)

I have two middle names, and I LOVE them both. My middle names are the names of the two of my 6 great aunts who died young. Anne <died in a car crash as a teen in 1947>, and Alles <died aged 2 of Spanish flu in 1918>. I like them because of the family history they have, and I like Alles because it is uncommon.

I don't love my middle name, nothing about my name trips any triggers with me. It's just kinda there. My first name is actually Lee and the way my father was using it to talk to as a baby annoyed my mother so she decided they needed to call me by my first and middle names.........LeeAnn. Some people actually just use Lee but few.

Oh, and I love "Gertrude"!

I don't have a middle name either. But I was very nearly named Gertrude after my grandmother, lol!!

Kaliko -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 3:28:27 PM)

I never even think about my middle name. I kind of wish I had something more interesting to write about it all, but I don't. My first name is very, very common. (I've changed it somewhat) and my middle name coupled with my first name is an equally common pairing. I suppose by the time my parents got down to me they were too tired to come up with anything cool.

Now, my daughter's middle name I like. "Meadow." (That was my consolation prize for not being able to name her Summer.)

RexDarcy -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 3:44:07 PM)

My middle name is James. I can't stand that name, never have.

Kaliko -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 3:47:14 PM)

I love the name James. Not Jim. James.

I also love the name Paul. Totally irrelevant here, but...I do love the name.

Daddysredhead -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 4:16:42 PM)

My given middle name is my Mother's first name. I took my maiden name as my middle name when I got married almost 20 years ago. Now that I'm getting re-married, I have been giving a lot of thought about what I'm going to do with my name. *sigh*

As to my Mom's name, I hated having it as my middle name as a kid. I'm fine with my maiden/middle name. I think it's cute that Thing 2 LOVES my Mom's name and wants to name a daughter after her. [:)]

You're welcome to it.

It seems dislike of middle names isn't as prevalent as I thought.Well I'll be fumfuddled.

seekerofslut -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 4:58:12 PM)

I like my middle name a lot, though it's actually not a middle name at all. Let me explain.

My parents gave me my name, for example, Jack Adam. It is a gift they gave to me. No one else. It is mine. If my brother were also named Jack Adam his name would also be his, given to him individually. Our names might look and sound the same but they are not. They are not shared.

My parents did not give me my clan (last) name, say, Smith. I was born into it. It is mine by birthright, and unlike my given names, shared with the others of the clan. When someone asks my name I often say Jack Adam, and that is a truthful statement.

Hope that all makes sense.

I'm pretty indifferent to my middle name, Bartholomew. I was named after both my father's brother and St. Bartholomew. Sucks to be them. :-P

EmilyRocks -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 5:30:15 PM)

No, sorry. I don't see how you and your brother can both be named Jack Adam and have the names not be the same.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 5:34:21 PM)

It would of been nice to have an I like my middle name option, because I'm not here or there about it or love it so much I go by it, I like it though.

I hate my middle name (Gertrude), and I have noticed that many other people hate theirs as well. So I was curious as to just how prevalent that attitude was.

So, how about it, how do you feel about your middle name?

EmilyRocks -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 5:38:20 PM)

Option 5. "I like my middle name"

Does your drivers license say Jack Adam or Jack Smith?

Not all that crazy about my first name either. My sister has the good name. [>:]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 5:55:55 PM)

My middle name is for my maternal grandfather.  The boys got their names from the paternal side of the family.

Its the only connection I have with my grandfather.  He died when Mom was 7.

littlewonder -> RE: Middle names....Ugh!!! (12/15/2011 7:16:27 PM)

My mom had a whole nother name picked out for me when she went into labor...but my aunt was pregnant at the same time and she went into labor 5 days before my mom and stole my name for my cousin so my first and middle names were something thought up at the last minute all because of my greedy aunt lol.
