Keys are usually easy to find for me... I lose pens, lighters and my notebook constantly though. Pens are the worst. I can have one in my hand one minute, and the next, it is nowhere in the house somehow. Just gone.

This IS key! I have designated pockets for keys, sunglasses and cellphone.

Additionally, my mom, via her father, drilled "Put it back" into my head.

I do misplace things, but they tend to turn up, with the exception of socks.

Oh, I used to lose my debit card all the time. ALL the time.

One time, I found it in a box of cold medicine in my bathroom. ... I don't know.

My dominant partner at the time finally cured me of that mess. Now? Habit. I always know where my debit card is at all times.

I chose clothing. My favourite black Calvin Klein bra has been missing since January. It was the one that didn't show under the summer dresses with the squared necklines. I miss that bra.

The 'where are my glasses' is another one, though they are usually under a file and not "lost" as such.

Did you check that hook on the back of your bathroom door? Or the laundry room? Kitchen drawer?
My bra is off almost as soon as I get home and close the door behind me. I've found them on top
of the refridgerator, in a kitchen cabinet, on a shelf in the laundry room, behind the couch cushions.
And for those times that I couldn't wait to get home, I have hunted a few down in my glove compartment.

And whatever screwdriver I need - if I need a flathead, suddenly my house is overrun by phillips. :p
I got one of those little things with exchangeable heads, so I don't have that problem anymore. They're all in a case together.

We lose the interchangeable heads and you can't just buy that because each manufacturer is different. So we're constantly buying new screwdrivers.

Socks, definitely socks.

I pretty much only lose my mind regularly. It kinna just rolls out from my ear and next thing ya know, I'm a blathering idiot. (Should explain some of my posts on here :-P)

Oh, and socks. But I didn't check "clothing" because I do not really lose socks, the washing machine just eats them. But I think I found LH's bra in the lint trap the other day..  o.O

For those who lose stuff often, if you can discipline your mind, I'd suggest maybe reading "The Memory Book" and/or "Secrets of Mind Power" by Harry Lorayne, the memory expert. He has many techniques and systems which help with memory (as well as other mental concerns, like organization and critical thinking). Some of those systems are ones I've used all my life and have helped me avoid losing things. My roommate, on the other hand.. Couple weeks ago I grabbed my lunch box out of the fridge and went in to work. Right in the middle of a crowded cafeteria, I pull out a pair of her bra and undies sitting on top of my PB&J sammie. Sigh. Now everyone at work thinks I'm a cross-dresser in my private life. :-x

I am really sensitive to sunlight so i always need sunglasses when outside, even on days its not that sunny.  I have 25 pairs of sunglasses, i keep several in my car, several at work and several at home BECAUSE i lose them so easily that i have taken to pretty much always wearing a pair on my head during the day so i know where they are and don't walk outside without a pair lol.

Marbles definitely.

Documents, I just toss them into the file cabinet.

Money, it is usually loose in my purse unless I take the time to get it together.

Other things, I can't recall...

How many more Phillips screwdrivers do I have to buy?

I've just spent the good part of an hour hunting high and low for one. I've found several flathead screwdrivers. But can I find a Phillips screwdriver?

Usually I have a good memory. I can remember conversations from years back, I can remember phone numbers once they've been repeated to me twice, though I struggle with dates, and names and faces (and thus it's possible for me to be three days late for an appointment, or a week early).

Keys are often a problem. I've found mine under bags, in the food cupboard, even in the fridge. Half the time I have gone through my apartment only to find them already in a pocket or my bag. These are the times when I also walk into the bedroom and immediately forget why I've entered it.

My cellphone is another example. Am I one of the few who uses a landline to find a cellphone? This is how I miss calls. And is there anything worse than when you're trying to find your cellphone from your landline and it goes straight to voicemail?

And why is it when you lose something you always find it just after you've bought the replacement?

Or am I the only one here? What about you? Can anyone else relate to these experiences?

What do you habitually lose or misplace?

You left out....checkmark.....my brain.

I lose my mind daily.

Other than that, receipts.  I never think I'm going to need them and always do.  I recently lost a Macy's rewards slip for $15.  I never take anything back but when I want to - I can never find the receipt for it.

Also paperwork.  I hate paperwork. I file about once a year - until then, who knows where things end up?  In a box, in a bag, in a pile, or into oblivion.

I lose gift cards, too.  Somewhere out there, there's a Starbucks card, a Bed Bath & Beyond card and a Claim Jumpers card that I used to have.

I also lose power chords.  I had to buy a new drill because I lost the power chord for mine (and the drill was cheaper than the power chord replacement).  I can't find the power chord for my camera.  Or to the air pump to my air mattress.  Or to my iPod.  And yet I have a drawer full of power chords to I don't know what.

I have a recpt sized box to store all my rcpts (it was formerly a frozen waffle box, i cut out the side and its perfect).. as soon as they come in and i empty the bag, the rcpts go into their little box..

for everything else, keeping similar stuff in each-

I would go nutz and be helpless without them..

My remote control!  I don't know where it is.  I lost it last night and still haven't found it.  You'd think it would be somewhere around where I was watching tv, but nope.

For a while there, I was losing things left and right and seriously thinking I was losing my mind.
Turns out, it was my puppy - dragging all my stuff out the doggie door and into the yard.
You don't happen to have a puppy, do you Stella?

Now OTHER people are always losing their cell phones in my couch.  My couch seems to have an insatiable appetite for my companies cell phones.  I'm considering initiating a mandatory pat down and removal of all keys and cell phones before my friends sit down.  Not that I'm looking for reasons to fondle and manhandle my friends.  Honest!

I misplace things less often than I once did (not counting puppy mischief).  Weird though, just a few days ago I too was
looking for my Phillips screw driver.  Maybe its just that time of the year when the gremlins have need of small tools?

I only seem to lose one thing....glasses.....they do re-surface, but usually after I've bought the replacement pair...funny how that works.

Goddammit I seem to lose sunglasses..  I had ONE Pair--the same pair--a custom made pair of Ray Ban Aviators--ordered special for small faces--I got them from my parents when I turned 15....and I never lost 'em once.  They broke about a year ago (got 20+ years out of them, not bad) and since then, every cheap-ass pair I've bought since have gotten misplaced.

Keys and sunglasses. The ex would laugh at me for locking myself out. The current... well... it costs 50 bucks for the landlady to come unlock the door. The last time I "lost" my keys, I waited outside for the man to get home.

I have strategies for receipts too - rainchecks and receipts for items I know I am going to return soon go in a designated pocket in my bag. (I have LLBean's Healthy Back Bag, which has tons of pockets.) I might also tape it inside the box the item came in.

Supermarket and other receipts which I am likely NOT going to need go into a box which I empty as soon as it gets filled.

Receipts for merchandise go in the filing cabinet and get thrown out after the Return By date passes.

Of the things on that list, the items I lose regularly would be......cell phone, documents, and articles of clothing.

I don't lose keys because I have specific places I keep them. The bother of making sure they are there is much MUCH less an issue than the panic of not being able to find them when I need them.

I think that is the key. How important the item is is directly reflected in how much care you give in keeping track of it. Obviously I don't care much about my cell phone, important documents, or most articles of clothing...

LaTigresse said every single thing I was going to say, right down to what she loses, what she doesn't and why. **weird!**
