Owner59 -> Soooo what happened to newt? (12/17/2011 10:29:39 AM)

Newt is now even or behind Mitt nationally and in most polls in Iowa.

Newty`s rise and fall was even sharper than the 1st three nonmitts.

Will there be more shooting stars or is that stuff over?

Who on the con world could possibly come forward and jump in the race?

I don`t mean jokes like Trump but a real, viable candidate(s)that might have a better chance than Mitt against the president.

"Newt Gingrich acknowledged Saturday that his rival's attacks have taken their toll on his presidential campaign as he's zoomed to be Mitt Romney's chief challenger. Romney predicted that conservative voters will reject Gingrich as they learn more about the former House speaker's lengthy Washington record.

Gingrich cited "the extraordinary negativity of the campaign" in explaining why he was inclined to hold teleconferences with supporters every few days so people can discuss ideas and his campaign can "encourage them to raise any of these things that you get in the mail that are junk and dishonest."

Mitt Romney predicted Saturday that conservative voters will reject GOP presidential rival Newt Gingrich as they learn more about the former House speaker's lengthy Washington record. Gingrich acknowledged to Iowa supporters that attacks have taken their toll as he's risen to be Romney's chief challenger.

Romney campaigned in early voting South Carolina, where tea party activists have given Gingrich a strong lead in polls. Romney told reporters that many voters now are just beginning to pay attention to the race and will turn on Gingrich after they learn about his time in Washington and his role with mortgage company Freddie Mac, a quasi-government agency.

Gingrich's consulting firm collected $1.6 million from the company.

"I think as tea partyers concentrate on that, for instance, they'll say, 'Wow, this really isn't the guy that would represent our views,'" Romney said after a town hall meeting with South Carolina Rep. Tim Scott. "Many tea party folks, I believe, are going to find me to be the ideal candidate."

Gingrich, speaking on a conference call from Washington, said the attacks on his record have been brutal, but he insisted they are exaggerated.

The article doesn't explicitly say he's plummeting.  I wouldn't doubt it'll happen, but... not yet.

A movie about people who vote a straight ticket. Cool [8D]

Yeah, I don't think he's exactly plummetted but the fact is......people on the whole do not trust him. That isn't going to change and ultimately will destroy his campaign.

Moonhead -> RE: Soooo what happened to newt? (12/18/2011 7:30:34 AM)

What, like it destroyed the chimp's campaign twice?

tweakabelle -> RE: Soooo what happened to newt? (12/18/2011 1:25:42 PM)

Newt seems to have decided that one way to revive his spluttering campaign is a populist attack on the Supreme Court and what he sees as "elitist" judicial activism. *

If President, Newt declared he would ignore certain Supreme Court rulings and abolish some judgeships that incurred his wrath. A Court ruling enabling marriage equality would be one ruling Newt would ignore, he declared, in a further descent into Perry-style queer bashing and populism.

Even conservative legal analyst Edward Whelan denounced Newt's position as:''constitutionally unsound and politically foolish''

It all looks like increasing desperation to me.

Well, newts cooked.  The November ads will say, 'Ws signing statements on steriods', and the Banner Newsclip will be in all the media...Will the Presidential Oath of Office be changed for the Gangrenich, will they remove 'To Preserve, Protect, and Defend the Constitution of The United States' from his oath of office? (which he will never recite, except at possibly a karaoke bar or in the shower.)

A good analogy would be internet dating......

You`re very anxious to get someone better than the present SO(Mitt) so you meet some people online that look promising......

The first one looked good but turned out to be a flake.

The second one also looked good but was dumb as a bag of hammers, making the present SO,Mitt, look human by comparison.

The 3rd guy looked really promising.

Looked great, sounded great, knew what to say and seemed for a moment better than the present b/f,Mitt.But after a 1st date, you find out he`s a sexual predator and major creep......hoooo hum....

Now the 4th guy,Newt.

Well,it turns out that newt ..............is someone you already know about and have already met and have already rejected.

In all the anxiousness about replacing your present SO, Mitt, you missed that the old fat guy is already thumbs down, you just needed to be reminded.

newt is that loser who keeps cmailing you for a date.....[:D]

Poor Mitt.[:D]

mnottertail -> RE: Soooo what happened to newt? (12/18/2011 4:27:15 PM)

Well, I do have some small quibble and some very distant agreement with Newt, but it is within limited confines.

The judicial branch = legislative branch = executive branch.

One does in theory not have more........... what...power than another...

But the Prez cant tell the SCOTUS to go to hell more than the legislature can tell the SCOTUS to go to hell, and make any of this stick.

I think there should perhaps be sometimes some advise and consent from congress and scotus, but hey, SCOTUS already says yo have no standing before SCOTUS as congress, you make the fuckin laws, you dont like what we rule make a new law thats within the constitution and we deal with that.
Congress advises and consents on those SCOTUS appointments.....
I could go on, but in the whole get down and dirty fighting there they have their lawyers in their practicing before the scotus, and while I would have as a lawmaker wanted to haul them down on say the corporations are people too and find out what the fuck is wrong with them, or the dred scott decision, I would not want to see committee after committee subpeonaing scotus on fucking birth certificates and roe v wade and all sorts of give it the fuck up already shit that they would be hauled down for....but usually it would be useless to haul them down to get answers, you got the opinion (both assent and dissent) in the fuckin OPINION.

So, that is a wrangle in my mind, but there should be more accountability as well, dunno.

But ignoring them actively 'cuz you don't fuckin like it?'   nah, gotta do better than that for a plan.

More bad news for Newt.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Soooo what happened to newt? (12/18/2011 5:29:10 PM)

Even the man who is older than dirt knows that the newt is poison...they had loggerheads when Newt was Speaker and Bob was Majority leader.

Sepultura -> RE: Soooo what happened to newt? (12/18/2011 6:00:59 PM)

Newt suggested he would send U.S. Marshals to round up federal judges that rendered decisions he didn't feel were in line with the Constitution. The role of the U.S. Marshals is clearly spelled out in the U.S. Code and does not include being an errand boy. They are to serve arrest or search warrants and look for fugitives of justice. He is more of an idiot than the guy currently overseeing the fall of this empire. I'm impressed. Didn't think it could be done.
