As to the OP, I think "extreme" is subjective.
I've gotten the side-eye before for some stuff I like or did in my last relationship and I don't personally think any of it is/was "extreme." Just stuff that people can do together and enjoy. :p

I've gotten some wacky messages, people who want to kill a girl, or who want to cut off your limbs, mutilate your body and all sorts of things...

I think sometimes people try very hard to set themselves apart and they want to be the most hardcore this, and the rowdiest and meanest that. Especially in a world where Sadist is a buzzword and a badge of honor. Every guy wants to strut and flaunt, and it gets silly.
But when someone is just being themselves, you can tell the difference. Honesty has a tendency to make itself known.

But usually when I see the word "extreme," it's being used in a way to say "oohh I'm so awesome, can't you tell?"

I thinnk most people are just more concerned with doing what they like, and tthat's all.

There is that, but, it also depends on the nature of the actual amputation:)
you wanna just go under and wake up with no limb there, or the thought of the actual amputation itself, with the scalpel, the cauterizing, the smell, the blood, muscles... then the saw, with the whine, the dust, the smell then the intensity of sewing up flaps, all that gory , painful, swoon inducing scenario.
