Nothing the leftists have said about YOUR POSTS are untrue Sanity. You make comments baiting... then cry and whimper that is an attack against you, not taking responsibility when you get what you asked for.

That's the American way and a measure of true conservatism, Lucy.

McCain may have to step in at the last moment to get us into Iran forever.  He's part McMittens and part Cain, and the teabaggers are for slewing the able, or so it would seem.

A lot can be said for the entertainment value of posts in this forum... and surely these as well.

On one hand, it makes me wonder where in the world people get the information they post ?

On the other, it's merely a matter of "considering the source...."

You do that blind one.

Many were in Iraq, the ones who werent were certainly already in existence, and around the area [...] Saddam himself was responsible for an extraordinary number of people horribly killed tortured raped and so on, its not like Iraq was some dreamland fairy tale before our soldiers arrived on the scene.

This is several details short of a meaningful truth:

Saddam Hussein used shitloads of general oppression; this is not news.

What you seem not to grasp, is that he did so in order to suppress terrorism and sectarian violence, primarily. He wasn't interested in giving up power, or sharing it. Terrorists are a threat to the power of a dictator, as are religious militants. It wasn't something he tolerated very well, and you'll find that the regions that suffered the most, are precisely the ones in which there is trouble brewing now that he's not around to force everyone to play nice. This wasn't news to the military, either.

In removing Mr. Hussein, what you have accomplished is nothing more- or less- than creating another safe harbor for terrorists and religious extremists, while paving way for an even larger coalition of states that are Iran friendly and also hostile to the USA. It seems likely you've also paved the way for a civil war that could never have happened under the old regime, and possibly even waves of ethnic cleansing and directed genocide. And, just to dot the I properly, you've probably struck the greatest blow to women in the country in modern history.

Mr. Hussein was a buddy of yours before the Kuwait war, which happened with the implied prior approval of the USA and in response to Kuwait drilling horizontally into Iraqi oil wells. The matter was brought before the UN repeatedly in order to resolve it peacefully, to no avail. Finally, Mr. Hussein consulted the US ambassador on the matter, and received informal assurances that there would be no attempt at mobilizing support for Kuwait. Then he went to war to preserve his oil (much as the USA foreign policy states on this point), and the USA switched its position. That ruined the relationship with Iraq, and led to an attempt on GWB Sr., which was retaliated against by GWB Jr. in the Second Gulf War, which is now ended as far as the USA is concerned.

The kangaroo court against Mr. Hussein probably didn't do much to smooth things over there, either.

Health,
al-Aswad.

No, Aswad, theres a lot that you dont grasp

Saddam wasnt a buddy of ours, ever. He was an enemy of our enemy (Iran), and he was  potential client state of the Soviet Union

You heard the old saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer right

You are giving Saddam Hussein a very lofty status that he doesnt deserve

He had women kidnapped and brutally gang raped in front of their families by professional teams of rapists as a means of political intimidation, he practiced ethnic cleansing through various campaigns of mass murder, he maintained huge torture facilities throughout Iraq where his government participated in mass crimes of unspeakable horrors

And he didnt have grandiose reasons as you envision for doing such things, he did such things for power, money, and control

I would apologize but I am not sorry, I have very little time or patience for the propagandists and  apologists for men such as Saddam Hussein

I'm not going to claim that Saddam was our buddy but we damn sure supported and propped him up prior to Gulf War I. A lot of the ordnance that was aimed at our men and women was bought and paid for with US tax dollars..

As for "power, money and control", Those are the 3 reasons we invaded Iraq almost 9 years ago and the reason over 4000 of our finest youth are dead. (and for what?)

A full account of the US-Saddam Hussein relationship is available in a National Security Archive document here. This document confirms Aswad's claim that the US-Saddam relationship long preceded the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The photo is dated Dec 20 1983. The NSA document confirms Saddam had long since ceased to have client or 'potential client' status with the Soviet Union as his relations with the US blossomed under Rumsfeld/Reagan.

The question of US tacit approval for the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait is discussed on the wiki page of April Glaspie US Ambassador to Iraq at the relevant period and the person whose (at the very least) ambiguous remarks caused Saddam to believe he had tacit US approval for his invasion of Kuwait. This appears to confirm Aswad's assertion of "implied prior approval of the USA" for the Iraqi invasion.

Well, I suppose that with the acute political insight on the right here where America is singing the praises of the Bush doctrine (which there wasnt one) and Ws great patriotic status, I assume that the next move will be to allow him to slither out of his hiding place and start stumping for the republican candidates to increase their popularity and name recognition, Americans can only hope such an event comes to fruition.

Damn, I see sanity got it completely wrong again, how extraordinarily unremarkable.

Yeah, that was done later when he made obeisance with the weapons they were loading into him.

Hey, we dont need to go to war with saddam to find what weapons of mass destruction he has, lets just look thru our reciepts!!!

Aswad, one thing I'll add to your account is what I was told by some Iranian-American friends when I asked them about the Kuwaiti invasion.  They told me that the shah of Iran had taken Iraq's seaport away from them, which cost Iraq whenever it shipped oil.  As soon as the shah was deposed, Iraq invaded, expecting to win an easy war and get its port back.  As we all know, the war dragged out and drained both states.  So Saddam decided to invade Kuwait to get their port instead.

And your propaganda...

But we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait.

Falls flat, there was no reference in your Wiki article [8|] about ignoring an invasion, so hold on to your tinfoil hats - just as the quote implied, Glaspie was referencing a border dispute

A disagreement, not a fucking war! [:D]

That he doesnt deserve
