Lucy, people in Sanity's position need to do behave like this. If they don't put up a smokescreen, if they don't obfuscate, if they don't introduce irrelevancies and fantasies, if they don't derail and do ad hominiems, what's left for them?

What's going to happen when people get around to focussing on the idiots who proposed the Iraq adventure in the first place? None of their claims, their beliefs, their ideologies will stand up to scrutiny on any level.

As long as they fudge and duck the issue, they can cling to the hope their looney Right ideology can escape being blamed for yet another foreign policy catastrophe. Like a drowning man clinging to straws ......

Actually I have to say that your "my reasoned discourse, in which I patiently explain the reasons why I hold the position" claim (post #156 above) is as hysterically funny and as remote from reality as your previous claim to offer "reasonable and intelligent" posts on another thread. Or just about any of your posts on this thread.

I did examine that latter claim in post #72 of the same thread, and found it to be "blatantly flagrantly UN-reasonable and UN-intelligent" and that it was "intellectual drivel" that would "merit an F for FAIL in any primary school".

I'm glad to see that you have finally discovered the virtue of consistency.
