Mine was a brand new pair of eyeglasses. I was telling my dad I didn't know how I was gonna come up with the  money for my new pair, and I need them horribly,  now mind you I am not fishing for him to offer to help, just shooting the breeze, and he says well what if Santa buys them for you this year. And boy I am so glad he did cause my coverage only covers 1 pair of glasses every 2 years, which isn't till January, and the glasses came out of pocket, and was double what I expected.

Then my handset for my cordless phone disapered and nobody can find it, so my mom offered to take me to Walmart to pick it out, and bought me a new phone.

I am truly grateful for my family and the help they have given me and my Daddy through the years.

My daddy's best gift I would have to say if I speak for him was finding a used car at carmax, that was a sweet car and we could afford, nothing beats getting a car back under you when yours dies and you gotta borrow someone elses car.

well, given I started the "worst gift" thread.... I guess I can post here my best one.  It wasn't this year but was a few years ago.....

My favorite band is like my religion to me--it's beyond music, beyond mere passion--it's absolutely what I live eat and breathe for. My friend bought me a ticket package where it included a pre-show meet n' greet and autograph signing, a once in a lifetime chance to hear the sound check (they don't allow fans inside for this usually), tickets to the show, and then a backstage pass after.  It meant so much to me--she knew I was strapped for cash that year, and she also knew how much that gift meant to me!  It was the best gift ever!!!!

Well, dunno about recieving but I got my kid a telescope & a star map. A 7 yr olds head is going to explode when he sees Mars & Venus. Sometimes it's great to be a Dad!

Oh & I was so chilled about buying him a yo yo that I got one for me too.

Best gift?   Well you can hardly call the birth of my granddaughter a "gift" but...she was born Nov. 7th and too precious for words.

Seriously though, I don't think I'm getting anything for Christmas this year.  No man in my life, my sisters and brother all have their own families to buy for and my kids are both strapped for cash.  Spending time with family is special seeing as how we don't manage to get together all that often.

My brother has been going through some hard times with illness and really doesn't have money to spare this year. He went out and found the biggest mango I have ever seen in my life (some kind of special variety) and gave it to me for christmas. He knows I'm a fruit fiend. We laughed when he gave it to me. Its great when someone just "gets you".

My home.
I have been saving for ages for a deposit for a house, however I lost my job about 4 months ago now, which meant no home loan ( despite a home loan being nearly half my rent pw.)
Utterly crushed. I didn't lose my job due to poor performance or anything like that, the company I worked for had financial difficulties, and first on, first off, well that was me.
I ring my parents and tell them that the house is a no go, and my Dad says don't worry, we will sort it. It is still a loan, I will have to repay him instead of a bank, the house isn't being *given* to me, but this would have to be my best present ever.
It is made even more amazing as I am the black sheep of the family, who has never really received any financial help from my parents and, to be honest, full expected to be left out of the will.
So I am eternally grateful to my father for this act of love.

The best gift I received this year wasn't a material gift.
It was a surprise that lead to discoveries
and adventure.
The best gift I'm giving and receiving is my
parents and I are going to sponsor two
older dogs at the animal shelter.
I do have hopes that my parents are
getting me a book I want very much
for Christmas. It's a art book and
sort of expensive but it's the material
thing I would love the most. That and
a good slow cooker cookbook.

One of the best gifts so far this year came from a friend of mine here in town. He has a switchblade that he has been carrying around for years for protection and when he saw how close I was to breaking down a few days ago (stressful year and is only getting worse), he handed me the switchblade and said since it has always brought him luck and kept him safe that maybe it would do the same for me. I'm not ashamed to say that I started crying a little.

The other fantastic gift I received came from my husband. A pair of knee-high Doc Marten boots that I have been lusting after for months. It's been a bitch breaking them in so far, but SO worth the pain.

I've had so much this year:

* My family, who proved how wonderful and supportive they were when we lost dad in the summer

* My very dear friends who gave me so much love and support, I can never repay them

* A job I (now) love, and the chance to do what I do in my own unique way

* A surprise tax rebate 2 days ago, which means christmas is not cancelled!

* The news that my favourite niece is giving us another beautiful baby next summer

* My Master, who is slowly but surely getting under my skin and into my heart

* My friends on cm and FL - we may never meet, but having your friendship means a great deal.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Up until 3 years ago.....the best gift was a pony. A large pony hunter to be exact.

For the last 3 years, the best gift has been the Kindle that Master purchased for me. I'm an avid reader and he understands how I feel about reading.

Right now......we bought a house. It's a foreclosure/fixer that sat empty for 6 months. While it's going to be a long time before it's done, what really matters is that we're officially moved in a week before Christmas, have the tree up and we're enjoying ourselves.

Y'all are making this ol' stud cry.  Let me see if I can do the same to you.

I finally got a job after so many years of scrapping by (through the graces and help of www.MHCD.org)

That's good money-wise, since I'm now paying down my back-rent and keeping current as I do so..  ("God BLESS my landlord," says the Atheist. LOL!)

But the best part is the stability and structure of a place to "go."  That alone makes employment "work" to help me with my mental illness.  Meds are finally balanced (in October) after a year-anna-half.

AND, as many have said..... CM friends are "twue," twue as can be.  Earlier this year, I got to meet FOUR! in person.  Lushy (you around, darlin' ? ), wolf2bear, SouthNJMan (probably wrong user name - but what FUN we had), and, of course, a cute straight (damn it all to hell) man by the name of hausboy.  Oh, and a fifth - businessman - gay male sub - one-night-stand, but that was fun, too. Was fifth a friend? Not so much, but in town every six-months or so..... we'll see if he calls again. LOL!

HEY!  Back to topic, Lance..... Gift of CM friends.... can NOT be beat.  Quick, to the POBox to see if sisters sent anything...... Be back later. LOL

I got to foster a very sweet deaf dog, Bones, and he didn't work out and went back, but the two weeks I had him was very special for both of us, and now I am fostering a sweet 9 year old golden girl who's very quiet and mellow.

So a second chance to foster and have a dog in our home for the time she'll be here is the second best gift of the year. for her and me.
