Radiation detectors carried by the marshals scanned the 57-year-old lawyer for concealed nuclear materials. When Seiko indicated a scent, his handler, Julian Swaringen, asked Vetter whether he had pets at home in Garner, N.C. Two mutts, Vetter replied. "You can go ahead," Swaringen said. The Transportation Security Administration isn't just in airports anymore. TSA teams are increasingly conducting searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations around the country. Full article here

Sooo... takin' a cupcake on a bus could get you life in Gitmo for terroristic acts, if things keep following the current track. No lawyer, no trial, no writ of habeas corpus... just a Koran and a prayer rug, and off you go. But its all okay because we can blame it on Bush and them evil neoconses "Lets go break a bank window and see if we can start a riot, I need a new tv".

yeah, this is appalling. it's pretty far down on the list of civil liberties violations gleefully perpetrated by the obama administration that get under this particular leftist's skin, but it's appalling. by the by, i understand you're probably going for more of a "lieberals wtf omg hypocrites lmao rofl" vibe but if you're actually interested in reading serious and scathing critiques of obama from the left, read greenwald's columns at salon. there ARE a few american liberals who apply the same standards to obama they did to bush, in much the same way there were a few conservatives who applied the same standards to bush they did to clinton.

FR I'm guessing random screenings is an 'austerity' measure to try and protect the US from something like this or this. Maybe if we hadn't wasted trillions of dollars enriching Haliburton etc. during the last administration we could have real security on all forms of mass transit.

It's Bush's fault. And it's Obama's fault. DHS was created out of the castoffs from other federal agencies. They're not very good. I believe that I first read about railways being a possible terrorist target over a year ago. Not in a classified report, in the media. And it's taken DHS this long to do something about it. We're not having significant freedoms taken away, just dignities. And in return, we're getting some vague feeling we're safer.

This is the reason republicans are rudderless. There`s no principles to defend,no consistency and no direction to lead. It`s only about wining and getting power(money/rank).Conduct?That`s last weeks news.Consistency?That`s for pussys. Accept for most of the anit-abortion republicans......most cons today are a buffet of whatever, anything goes and flip-flop-who-cares. One quality tho that always seems to be present amongst all republicans, is anger.No matter how good things are or how well off they are,they`re always angry. Point in fact,I am dissapointed that this President did not,in a quick and decisive way,roll back some of the excesses of the Bush administration.This has been just one more example that powers once appropriated,in direct contravention of the Constitution,are never easily surrendered.Proof once again that the citizenry of any free society should pay heed to Franklins creed about essential liberties and temporary safety.

He did roll them back. Just not the ones you wanted. That President Obama is a super-lefty is/was a republican propaganda ploy, that for many outside of the GOP is/was successful. President Obama is not a lefty.

Again, the department homeland security was established by someone who is supposed to be for smaller government. Got a link for your claim or is it just a claim? I do find it interesting that you claim the smallest increase in federal payroll was overseen by someone who is supposed to be a tax and spend liberal.

Lefties ignore links they dont like anyway. And you might recall a lot of Clinton's budget pre-Gingrich budget cutting came on the backs of the military that had to be rebuilt. It was a Republican GOP that did the civilian budget cutting.

Sorry Owner ,as long as any portion of the odius Patriot Act remains on the books he hasn't,to my way of thinking,done enough to return the liberties that were missappropriated by the overreaching Bush administration. Of course he is still leagues in front of any possible Republican pretender for the office....and I never expect to get all that I want from any one President anyway.
