So, more borrow and spend from the republicans.

Sanity -> RE: Obama phones it in... (12/28/2011 6:27:43 AM)

Beside the fact that its Obama thats asking for the 1.2 trillion dollar increase in the deficit... are you happy about more borrow and spend, from anywhere?

Leftists seem to think that if the Republicans do it then its all the rage... you would think things would be different

The republicans could have not kicked the can down the road, they could have not made the legislation in such a way that the debt ceiling would be raised in three steps (yes virginia, there is one more yet).  And quit fucking around with ratpoison bills, and wonder if there is something they can do today to stop the insanity they created. Start worrying about how to get effective and realistic cuts now, starting with defense, treasury and cleaning up entitlements.  Because, the thing is, this is still december this year, and thats maybe good for a quarter, one more yet (and it will come) and then you guys get to talk about raising it again in the middle of elections, boy aint your face gonna be red?  Or, is this part of the mother of all slaughters plans we have been hearing so much of and seeing so little of?    Obama didnt have to call.   It dont pay to be a nice guy.

DarkSteven -> RE: Obama phones it in... (12/28/2011 6:37:58 AM)

From a strict Constitutional point of view, the President's involvement with the budget is limited to vetoing or not.  Unfortunately, by today, the legislative branch has ceded so much power to the executive that Obama is supposedly completely responsible for the budget, and is charged with coming up with a budget that Congress can live with, when it's actually Congress' duty to create a budget that the president can live with.

The process is ugly enough when Congress proposes and the President approves/declines.  The current process, where Obama proposes and every single Congressperson determines if it serves his or her special constituencies well, is unworkable.  That's why we have stopgaps, bandaids, and eleventh hour deals that nobody likes.

Time for Congress to step up and do its job.

mnottertail -> RE: Obama phones it in... (12/28/2011 7:36:44 AM)

As of the end of August it was:

Obama  70 days
Bush    225 days

For the same time frame.

Under Bush, the war was on, under Obama the war was off.

Under Bush, Osama was kickin it, under Obama Osama was dead.

And so on.

This all has prior approval from Congress. A phone call is all that is required.

By FRIDAY! LMAO. Sounds like he wants to test an Executive Order on the debt ceiling.

Actually the debt ceiling will be raised automatically. This increase is part of the deal reached during the debt ceiling hostage taking last summer. The GOP can rush back in session and squeal about it but it will still happen.

quote:

Ken

They dont have to rush back, they have till mid-January to block it. And I wouldnt be surprised if they do to force Obama to override it.

Entirely within the agreement he made with Congress.

The debt is projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by December 30, when the United States has $82 billion in interest on its debt and payments such as Social Security coming due. President Barack Obama is expected to ask for authority to increase the borrowing limit by $1.2 trillion, part of the spending authority that was negotiated between Congress and the White House this summer.

Under the agreement struck in August during the showdown over the government's debt limit, the cap is automatically raised unless Congress votes to block the debt-ceiling extension. Lawmakers have 15 days within receiving the request to vote, which is largely symbolic because the president can veto it and Congress would be unlikely to muster the two-thirds majority to override it. Moreover, the U.S. House of Representatives also is in recess until January 17.

And in the end....ya`ll will give it to him.

Not before we thoroughly embarrass the cons and make them say uncle.[:D]

While I know you just love the thought of anyone on the right being uncomfortable with this, the fact is it was already a done deal...

"The approval is expected to go through without a challenge, given that Congress is in recess until later in January and the request is in line with an agreement to keep the U.S. government funded into 2013."

Maybe next time you should read the article before shooting off your mouth.

As to the OP....not sure what you are pissed of about here. Is it the fact that he is asking for money that has already been approved or the fact that he used the phone to do it?

Oh, I read the artical......Ms. Assumer.

The reason you`re not sure about the OP is the same reason you don`t get my post.Cluelessness, both times.

Before you tell someone to read words on the surface ....learn to read a little deeper behind words yourself. If I told a black man to shine my shoes,in anger.....I`m not looking for a shoe-shine.It requires a little more sophistocation and insight, than just reading things......word for word.

I don`t have much hope for ya ,but just this time,I`ll spell it out for you.

The OP also knew it was a done deal but wants to smear the president. Is this new?

Childish attempt yes but this is your entire party lately,so we normal folks have to cope in our own ways.

My reply, was spot on.

You wait.

Your party will make fake hay out of this and end up looking as bad as last week.

The President has to ask for the debt ceiling change because a budget passed by Congress requires spending so much money that the change is necessary.

Im not pissed off, youre projecting that part.

Anyone pleased over  the prospect of another 1.2 trillion of debt though, needs their heads examined.

Well, Obama learned well from at least 3 repub presidents he just has a problem with marketing. (lying)

To use the neocon MO, neither 'Obamacare' or the stimulus...needed to be paid for just like wars and drug benefits the 'UNFUNDED' liability of which is now $20 Trillion...with a 'T'  already at $5 Trillion more then soc. sec.

Is everybody rich yet ?

Thanks, I was afraid we were going to have a thread without "well they did it first" or Bush being mentioned. I should have known better.

You really shouldn't be talking about the way others post. At least until you learn to post with out slinging childish insults. Until then, you are no better than he is.
