So, patriotic americans following our laws are assholes?

kdsub -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 6:48:23 AM)

Ron...all I am doing is giving my opinion. I don't think flag burning, legal as it may be, is a good way to keep the Occupy movement in the news. Screw a bunch of patriotic nonsense. It is a gut feeling with me and I'll bet it will reflect the feeling of many that would be sympathetic with the cause otherwise.

I hear ya, and there are some other things that I don't think are good for this country, that are legal and ran to ground every day.

I don't think that the flag burning thing was plotted about and decided to make a splash in the news for OWS, because lets face it Butch, it didn't....it was a big dig, vast portions of Americans other than 5 or 6 people in CM Politics and Religion are blissfully unaware of this even today.

A stretch of imagination, in short.

kdsub -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:10:24 AM)

Ron and I hear you... I am a little stubborn at times but don't you think some of the people here in CM are just a little touchy about criticism. What I am saying is not to the right or left of the political spectrum…It is valid enough to be at least considered without 6 pages of ranting.

You are assuming it was not considered. Consideration doesnt mean blanket agreement.

kdsub -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:19:41 AM)

I thought we were done...[:D]..OK best we leave it at that.

Butch

tazzygirl -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:26:29 AM)

We were done at that time. When you asked me what my father would have thought... and I explained what he thought in answer to your question... then you came back with the bullshit line that you didnt care what he thought... you showed me then what consideration you gave to my posts. You complained then, and the conversation ended before I ended up on moderation. Complaining now that I didnt give you that consideration then is sort of hypocritical.

kdsub -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:30:50 AM)

The reason I did it was for the same reason I am responding to you now... it is not on subject and people are getting in trouble for off topic posts. We were going too far away from the original topic and i did not want the thread closed or our posts pulled.

Butch

tazzygirl -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:32:16 AM)

Let me get this straight.

This thread is about a group of men burning the flag.

I answered your question about how my father would have felt about someone burning a flag.

And that would have been off topic?

Not true tazzy...you said...after calling me a "What, being a white boy in the military"

"Ah, I get it. You think my father was spat upon because he was a vet.... try thinking a bit more outside the box. Try being spat upon by the very men you served with."

I said....

"Oh good lord...I could not care less about your dad just as you could not care less about my experiences 40 years ago...lets stay on subject"

Flag burning was not mentioned... that is why I brought it back to the topic to keep us out of trouble.

Just as we will soon be in trouble if we keep this up.

tazzygirl -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 9:26:52 AM)

Because you assumed my father was spat upon once he got back. he fought for his country, for that flag, while those he fought beside, other servicemen, were spitting on him for his heritage. Thats why he believes as he does. My father, and many like him, fought for his country, not some symbol, not the flag, not the bald eagle, but what they stood for. And when people are angry at their country, they are entitled to show it. I asked him about this specifically. He said that while he would not do this personally, when people get angry they will voice their concerns. A government that will not listen to reasonable voices will take notice of an act like flag burning.

Are these young men that angry? I dont know them. I have no clue. What they did, they wanted to do. And they got the attention they sought. Some feel its worth it, others would not. Some will get angry at them, some will not. But, they will get the attention, they will be heard.... one way or another. Maybe, instead of getting angry at these people, maybe we and the government should stop long enough to listen for a change. Lord knows the government has had ears only for business lately.

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 12:36:24 PM)

Pstttttttttt So now its not disrespecting the flag it; s WHO does it that makes it bad?
ah ok
Thanks for that
Anywhooo
I hear that over five thousand of these mythical creatures(OWS) who have slunk away, turned up at the rose parade yesterday??

TheHeretic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 6:14:04 PM)

The "5000" number came from an Occupy organizer/spokeshole, Lucy. I suspect it would be the same sort of calculations that are used in the claim that they represent 99% of Americans. [;)]

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 6:27:32 PM)

until someone believable comes up with a different figure to deny it, then Ill go with the video and "other figures: thanks Rich,
your " suspicions" are just that

SilverBoat -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 6:29:50 PM)

It's not like the GOP's parade of rightwing lunatics aren't doing everything they can to keep themselves in the news headlines?

[sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif]

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 6:33:14 PM)

having to pick apart figures of protestors at a parade, THIS close to a MAJOR election says SO much to so many.

TheHeretic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:07:33 PM)

I'm not picking, Lucy, just clarifying on the source. I didn't watch the parade, but I did read the local coverage from the LA Daily News. I was just thinking that with your comments a while back about how many Beck claimed attended his rally, you might be interested in the source.

Lucylastic -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/3/2012 7:20:07 PM)

Beck?
LMAO Ive done more sources since then for far more protests and " figures" like Jon Stewart.
Mind boggling Beck and Bachman were their own worst enemies guesstimating the size of his crowd
ALtho it was hysterical
:)

Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

Not allowed.

Guess what is allowed?

Burning.

When people start complaining about the many varied ways the flag is disrespected, and do something about it, then they can bitch about the burning of a flag in political protest.

Maybe you missed this part?

I know all about the rules for respecting a flag. But as I pointed out. We were discussing a bikini that was made from a roll of printed fabric. Not a flag.

Not sure why you keep posting links to respecting the flag.

tazzygirl -> RE: Occupy tries to stay in the news (1/4/2012 6:32:22 AM)

Umm.. excuse me? But wasnt that all about DISRESPECTING the flag?

When people start bitching about napkins, table cloths, plastic bags, ect ect ect.... Then they... including you.. can bitch about flag burning.

Or is that too much for you to comprehend?
