A girl after my own heart!

Good for her!

First, her dogs are killed, then this predator shows
up at her door with a friend and and a knife.  They
proceed to break in while she is on the phone with
the police.  She is alone except for her son and her
husband just died on Christmas!!

I cannot think of anything more appropriate than a
12 gauge welcome for scum who would attempt
to prey on someone in those circumstances.

I am glad she didn't show it to him and chase him away.
I am glad she waited until he gave her no choice.

laborboleta -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/2/2012 6:30:24 PM)

She called 911 and it took over 21 minutes for the police to arrive?!?!?! Thank goodness she was armed!

Hillwilliam -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/2/2012 6:31:40 PM)

When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

Fornica -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/2/2012 6:38:25 PM)

That poor girl :(
I'm glad her and her baby are safe.

Exactly, OL. What a bunch of awful experiences that poor girl's had!

Yes,

If she had shown them the shotgun through the window
they would have left.  To return some other time.  Much
better to go to the end of a hallway and have a shotgun.

When he was LA police chief Daryl Gates home was broken
into.  One of the items taken, a shotgun.  I knew an attorney
who worked for LA DA's office.  In his bedroom at the end
of a hall, a shotgun.

They had no children in the home, she did.  Fortunately
she was able to gather her child behind her.

21 minutes is actually a decent response time. I had a woman on the phone once for 47 minutes while two pieces of shit broke into her house. I had her hiding under her bed, and we could both hear the scumbags ransacked her bedroom. They had no idea that she was home, or that she was on the line w/the Police Department. THe officers pulled up a they were leaving.

The ugly reality of it is that today's police officers are spread so thin that it's all they can do to keep up with the hot traffic, let alone even try to be proactive about crime. And once you start getting out into rural areas covered by Sheriff's offices, it's even longer to get a cop someplace. And as for 911 centers, getting the automated attendant asking you to hold for an operator is more and more common these days. It's criminal how they insist on cutting the budgets of police departments these days. I've worked for city departments where I've sat down on a radio console to 45 HOLDING calls, some of them there for hours. The average response time to a buglary report in Phoenix AZ is 18....yes, 18...HOURS!

Yeah, I'm all for people having guns...it's just a shame she didn't kill the other one.

The look on the Ladys' face speaks volumes. I am damn glad she had that gun, else it would be a very different story.

All of which is why I strongly believe we should pretty much all "carry," and be very skilled with them. No matter how good, or well intended cops are, they simply cannot be there when you need them. Their job, more or less, is usually about "clean-up," and tracking down bad guys after the fact.

I am responsible for my life, nobody else is. If something goes down around me, I'm there, not them. If I wait, and hope and pray for rescue, I may be SOL. Things happen pretty damn fast, esp. nowadays.

Not fur nuttin', but I, for one, ain't going down without a fight. I will do my best to leave my mark. God help the poor sucker that tries to get between me and "Mabel."

Who are these fucking freaks?

Glad she had a gun....of any kind.

Better that she had a shotgun.

No pussy for him tonight.

I guess not. That ain't all he ain't gettin' anymore. Oh....so sad....NOT! Score one for the good guys!

When I hear such a moving story of righteous and timely justice, it warms the very cockles of my heart!

hlen5 -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/2/2012 11:45:43 PM)

The only question I have is what did she mean he was there a few nights prior? Was he trying to break in then?

That poor young woman.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/3/2012 5:59:16 AM)

Reminds me of an old joke.

What has 200 balls and fucks criminals?

A 12 gauge.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/3/2012 6:16:01 AM)

Speaking as someone who lives in a very rural area, I know I can't rely on the sheriff's office to help me. Personally, I admire her restraint in waiting until they were in the door. I might have been tempted to shoot first and ask questions later.

Aswad -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/3/2012 8:44:13 AM)

It's somewhat interesting to see how uniform the responses have been, compared to when another poster on these boards shared the story of his own encounter with a burglar.

I wonder why that is... anyone?

Health,

I remember that, Aswad.

Perhaps it is because Off Topic is less contentious than P&R?

tj444 -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/3/2012 9:19:29 AM)

I have said its in everyone to kill.. it just depends the circumstances that bring that about.. for most women, its when their kids are in danger, as it was with this young woman..

Its scary tho that she said if it wasnt for the fear she felt for her child, that she wouldnt have shot the attacker.. if she had been alone she might be dead now herself.. Women need to get that their lives are more important, important enough to fully defend themselves even if it means killing their attacker, imo..

hlen5 -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/3/2012 1:41:25 PM)

I remember that too, perhaps the gender of the shooter?? Everybody was feeling more grumpy that day?

Also, she had just lost her husband so maybe people empathized from the beginning?

Another possibility is that whoever picked the fight with the poster (was it OriontheWolf???) is no longer here.

I'm wondering if her comment may have been the result of depression, and feeling lost/unmoored, as her husband had just died, and her dogs had been killed.
