ORIGINAL: laborboleta She called 911 and it took over 21 minutes for the police to arrive?!?!?! Thank goodness she was armed! 21 minutes is actually a decent response time. I had a woman on the phone once for 47 minutes while two pieces of shit broke into her house. I had her hiding under her bed, and we could both hear the scumbags ransacked her bedroom. They had no idea that she was home, or that she was on the line w/the Police Department. THe officers pulled up a they were leaving. The ugly reality of it is that today's police officers are spread so thin that it's all they can do to keep up with the hot traffic, let alone even try to be proactive about crime. And once you start getting out into rural areas covered by Sheriff's offices, it's even longer to get a cop someplace. And as for 911 centers, getting the automated attendant asking you to hold for an operator is more and more common these days. It's criminal how they insist on cutting the budgets of police departments these days. I've worked for city departments where I've sat down on a radio console to 45 HOLDING calls, some of them there for hours. The average response time to a buglary report in Phoenix AZ is 18....yes, 18...HOURS! Yeah, I'm all for people having guns...it's just a shame she didn't kill the other one. All of which is why I strongly believe we should pretty much all "carry," and be very skilled with them. No matter how good, or well intended cops are, they simply cannot be there when you need them. Their job, more or less, is usually about "clean-up," and tracking down bad guys after the fact. I am responsible for my life, nobody else is. If something goes down around me, I'm there, not them. If I wait, and hope and pray for rescue, I may be SOL. Things happen pretty damn fast, esp. nowadays. Not fur nuttin', but I, for one, ain't going down without a fight. I will do my best to leave my mark. God help the poor sucker that tries to get between me and "Mabel."
